"He's locked himself in his office and he's not answering anyone. I suspect something terrible might have happened." Brune studies her carefully. "You're dreaming, too, aren't you, Doctor?"
@Mithical "Well, I was intending to ask you about Dr. Antonelli, but now I'm more worried about you." Brune rolls cautiously over the threshold. "Are you all right?"
Brune raises an amused eyebrow, briefly calmed down again, and plucks out some blue and pink crackers. "Are these meant to accompany my cheese packet?"
"There's no time," Brune complains, but he grudgingly flops back down into the chair. "If we're staying, we need to find Antonelli. We need to tell him about the cipher and Zakkai. I made him a promise."
"Don't call me sonnyjim -" Brune gripes, wriggling around in vain as Jack nabs him. He is one hundred percent certain Jack has used this maneuver many times on drunk bar patrons.
"Because the goggles show the real me." Brune's hands twitch. "A monster. The way I used to see myself, before you all showed up. The dreams - all of it. It's all been messages... symbols. We're all the Eldest have left. Don't you see it, Jack? The mad design of it all? We've always been asleep - all along." He sounds slightly unhinged again.
"In this world -" Brune presses a hand to his chest. "I have a heart. In whatever... other place... those goggles show, I don't. And I know exactly where it is, Jack. I'm not crazy. I'm not."
Brune subsides into tense silence, but his eyes flick rapidly around and he's still extremely pale. He looks like he would be sprinting out of the room if he could.
