The Nineteenth Byte: General discussion for codegolf.stackexc...

@Themoonisacheese Wouldn't you only pay them if they can prove that there's an actual vulnerability, though?
Mar 11 01:09
And reading posted lecture slides if they're good, I guess (they're usually not)
Mar 11 01:09
I learn almost exclusively by doing projects (in project-based classes) and googling stuff when I have homework to do
Mar 11 01:08
@lyxal lol, same. I don't get anything from lectures for most classes, and most of the classes that actually interested me, I didn't even go to the lectures for
Mar 3 19:11
They must, right, for them to continue being forced on us?
Mar 3 19:11
I have to wonder: outside of this community, do people actually go crazy over these AI assistants?
Mar 3 18:52
They did refer to me this organization for helping neurodivergent students at my university
Mar 3 18:51
@user lol turns out the groups are all full, which honestly I'm finding myself relieved about
Feb 26 06:32
Thanks for the info
Feb 26 06:32
@UnrelatedString Cool
Feb 25 19:38
And what do you talk about?
Feb 25 19:38
Is it weird talking to a bunch of strangers?
Feb 25 19:38
@UnrelatedString Ah nice
Feb 25 19:38
oof
Feb 25 18:05
The counseling at my university has workshops, which sounds great, but they don't have any for social skills, so they directed me to group counseling. I don't know if counseling means it involves discussing your personal life with a bunch of people in a group or something
Feb 25 18:02
Would anyone recommend going to your university's counseling center for group counseling with a group for working on social skills? Have any of you had good experiences with that sort of thing in the past?
Feb 21 04:16
...
Feb 21 04:15
I stand corrected
Feb 21 04:15
I am in awe
Feb 21 04:14
Thanks
Feb 21 04:13
@lyxal Aww ok
Feb 21 03:37
@lyxal I'm afraid I just blue myself
Feb 21 03:36
@lyxal lmao I need the link
Jan 27 18:22
Would be interesting to do a survey
Jan 27 18:22
I'm not sure I agree with how lose those numbers are but I see what you're saying
Jan 27 18:04
@mousetail'he-him' wdym?
Jan 27 18:03
My parents took me to a psychologist when I was a kid because of some minor attention issues I had, and I found that the psychologist made some suggestions on the report to help me be less bored and stressed out, and my parents heeded literally none of the suggestions because my grades were good enough
Jan 27 17:59
But it's also kinda hilarious
Jan 27 17:59
@Themoonisacheese oof, that sucks
Jan 27 17:58
Code golf isn't even that niche
Jan 27 17:58
@mousetail'he-him' I don't think it's safe to say that, it's niche but you don't need to have autism to be a nerd
Jan 18 23:27
Great!
Jan 18 18:43
And yeah SO wouldn't be the only support, we'd also refer people to the Discord/GitHub
Jan 18 18:43
@noodleperson fwiw this isn't a paid product or something it's just an open-source tool (a shell)
Jan 18 18:43
@mousetail'he-him' Yup that's one of the reasons we want to move here
Jan 18 17:15
We were planning on linking to StackOverflow in the Discord server's guidelines and on the Nushell website in case people had questions. We would also link to the SO guidelines and encourage people to follow those
Jan 18 17:13
Specifically, I'm asking for this tool called Nushell that I contribute to. There's already a [nushell] tag on SO with a few questions, but most people don't seem to know they can ask questions there
Jan 18 17:11
@lyxal and anyone else: do you guys know what the procedure is when you have a software tool and you want people to ask questions about it on Stack Overflow rather than in your tool's Discord server or GitHub issues?
Jan 13 22:44
I should really get back to it again, it was fun
Jan 13 22:44
@mousetail'he-him' I was actually working on alanguage like that a while back: github.com/ysthakur/oops
Jan 9 19:54
There's another building at my university that has a floor with rooms labelled 0xxx and then another floor beneath with rooms labelled Bxxxx (never seen what the elevator calls them, but I assume G and B)
Jan 9 19:54
Here they use 1, 2, 3, and so on. I used to live in the basement at my old dorm, and the rooms were labelled 0xxx but the elevator said G, I believe

Occasionally, even experienced Wikipedians lose their heads and devote every waking moment to edit warring over the most trivial things, wasting time debating topics of no practical value, or wrestling over questions whose answers hold no practical consequence. This page documents our lamest examples. It isn't comprehensive or authoritative, but it serves as a showcase of situations where people lose sight of the big picture and obsessively expend huge amounts of energy fighting over something that, in the end, isn't really so important. Edit warring is believed by some to be important, possibly...
Jan 8 23:46
@DLosc Oh, have you seen WP:LAME? I think you'd like it
Jan 8 22:36
@Ginger fwiw I don't remember you being cringe even back in 2022, although this is something of a "(not) throwing bricks while living in a glass house" situation
Jan 8 22:34
@Ginger I usually use + to because dumb me keeps thinking Ctrl-S is Ctrl then S rather than Ctrl and S together
Jan 8 22:28
Honestly that editor is so right
Jan 8 22:28
@DLosc Huh, it's still up
Dec 23, 2024 03:14
I soon found myself using it to calculate the speed I would need to reach, in kmph, to kill myself on impact upon jumping off a building
Dec 23, 2024 03:13
I once had to contribute to a project that made use of a C++ library that uses templates to specify and check units
