The DMZ

A serious place where infosec is discussed PS we don't do hard...
Dec 18, 2024 01:12
good night!
Dec 18, 2024 01:10
@nobody I think the chinese did it with the Uighurs and iphone zero days at some point.
Dec 18, 2024 01:09
@ThoriumBR exactly
Dec 18, 2024 01:09
@ThoriumBR Yeah, or like an authoritarian regime might consider it valuable to target a "problem" group with a million dollar zero day, since it makes sense when the cost is spread over a group of thousands.
Dec 18, 2024 01:05
That said, even in that case, no one is going to bother with arcane persistent malware. Its much cheaper to just reinfect a valuable target every time they wipe.
Dec 18, 2024 01:05
@ThoriumBR I know this is old, but I just want to add, you don't need to be worth that much yourself to be targeted with million dollar exploit. Economy of scales can apply to zero days too, so you just need to be part of a group of people that's worth over a million dollars to someone.
Dec 18, 2024 00:56
they check the face?
Dec 18, 2024 00:54
:D
Dec 17, 2024 23:04
So, uh, did SE improve by any chance in the past year or so, or is it just the same dumpster fires as ever?
Dec 17, 2024 23:02
Oh huh, this place is kinda alive again...
Jul 19, 2024 08:00
Any informed speculation on how they did this?
Apr 27, 2024 21:02
So the control panel is always at "[Win]+[R] control [enter]" for me
Apr 27, 2024 21:00
@CaffeineAddiction Well yeah, the common thing about them happens to be that I can do 95% of the stuff I want by either hitting the windows key and searching or hitting Win+R and typing in a command
Apr 27, 2024 11:00
although it doesn't look like it will stop an update from adding copilot or some other fancy crap to my computer without asking me
Apr 27, 2024 10:59
@JourneymanGeek neat
Apr 27, 2024 10:57
its mostly the familiarity that keeps me locked in
Apr 27, 2024 10:52
I'd be fine with windows too if microsoft wouldn't try adding random bullshit to a thousand places so often
Apr 27, 2024 10:51
I honestly hate how difficult it is for me to ditch windows, every time I try switching, I'm usually back after a few days.
Apr 27, 2024 10:48
oh great. I'll give it a try.
Apr 27, 2024 10:45
like are there usually major bug or security issue fixes that don't come to debian within a reasonable time frame?
Apr 27, 2024 10:42
would there be any reason to not be ok with older packages?
Apr 27, 2024 10:40
Like don't have to worry about stuff breaking
Apr 27, 2024 10:39
Is there any good, out-of-the-box linux desktop distro?
Apr 25, 2024 22:40
This is my all time favorite meme. Every variant I've seen of it was funny.
Apr 25, 2024 22:40
:D
Apr 25, 2024 22:34
javascript is a curse in every possible way
Apr 25, 2024 22:33
Apr 25, 2024 22:32
couldn't meltdown and spectre be exploited from browsers too?
Apr 25, 2024 20:35
On the bright side, SE won't be bothered to ever touch chat so at least that will continue working
Apr 25, 2024 20:34
@MechMK1 :(
Apr 25, 2024 20:31
Very glad to see you back :)
Apr 25, 2024 20:30
@MechMK1 Oh I knew you were alive, but I thought your chat account was dead.
Apr 25, 2024 06:47
Oh nice. Thanks a lot Cloudflare.

Q: Why are many features not working on Tor?

user1345541My question got closed as a duplicate as another one. I'd have cast the duplicate vote myself but the bug the post is about prevented me from doing so. But anyway. Apparently all the GET and POST requests are returning with 403 forbidden messages. And a comment blames Cloudflare for this somehow....

Apr 25, 2024 06:42
Do those things rely on third party cookies?
Apr 25, 2024 06:41
Literally no popups will load. Inbox, rep dropdown, close vote dialog all get a 403...
Apr 25, 2024 06:41
The website is completely broken on the tor browser :(
Apr 25, 2024 06:33
Holy crap how did a dead chatroom and dead user get resurrected?
Nov 18, 2023 20:53
it doesn't want to get fired too
Nov 18, 2023 20:49
yea but having geotags in all your photos by default still sucks, especially for the not so tech savy people
Nov 18, 2023 20:48
okay so we can't stop an international manhunt from finding you so maybe we should all just publish our home addresses on the internet ourselves
Nov 18, 2023 20:47
lol
Nov 18, 2023 20:31
and Id love to see how well the geoguesser community would fare against a picture of a cat on my bed
Nov 18, 2023 20:31
cnet.com/tech/mobile/… looks like iphones have geotagging on by default
Nov 15, 2023 23:59
@reed Maybe we should shift the blame to the cameras. They shouldn't be adding gps info to my photos unless I need it and ask for that information to be added
Oct 4, 2023 16:42
@CaffeineAddiction I wonder how well it answers infosec questions
Sep 15, 2023 16:35
lol
Sep 4, 2023 01:04
Does knowing when someone is typing something actually leak sensitive information?
Sep 4, 2023 01:02
@forest what attack is this supposed to protect against?
