Job postings in your area surely seem to be different than the ones i've seen. Most of the postings i see could be summarized as "please be fresh out of university at the age of 21 but also have 10 years of working experience". Meaning the social contract you mention doesn't exist in the first place. Hence why minimal effort application and "applying even if you don't meet the (impossible to meet) criteria" are the norm nowadays.

@user142083 at least here in Germany, yes employers are required to provide shoes if there are specific requirements to shoes in the workplace eg steel caps or other safety features. Anything work-related is for the employer to provide. Though i would still agree to you, if company stuff doesn't fit or you don't like it, invest a little money to get your own stuff.

-1 from me too. In my experience, the technical interview by a random recruiter (and everything OP wrote sounds like a recruiting firm and not the companies own recruiter) is often miles away from the actual technical skills needed in a certain company. Further, the chances of the recruiter telling the company "we interviewed this guy but we don't think he is a good fit" are near zero, meaning the company doesn't even know about the interaction with the recruiter.

Thinking of white people (lets spell it out since that's what everybody beats around the bush) as being privileged is nonsense. I would even consider that way of thinking racist. Unless somebody is born with wealthy enough parents to not work a day in their life, everybody is equally struggling in the world. So i'd appreciate it if a large portion of posters here would stop their racist behaviour.

There is an agreed on level of communication in society. We shouldn't lower the bar indefinitely for singular people only because they feel offended, as that makes working and living for the majority of people worse. It's simply illogical and not worth it. Instead whoever is below the set standar bar needs to work on themselves to be able to participate in a strong and flourishing society. Simply looking at all the regressions in american society makes this clear to anybody with common sense.

@Amelian but you're exactly showcasing the issue here: Students looking for "microaggressions" (as an european who does not believe 1% in this made up stuff i will put it in paranthesis) is already wrong. Students shouldn't do that at all. They should focus on the lecture. They also shouldn't have the power to change anybodys behaviour based on irrelevant feelings. Students organizing a protest outside a proffessors office would be expelled from university in my country, and rightfully so.

@DiligentWorker25 looking at your other posted questions, it really seems you have a hard time grasping social norms / social etiquette that just comes naturally to almost all people. Have you tried therapy or so to be better at understanding unspoken rules ? If this comment makes you uncomfortable because i looked up your questions and pointed out something obvious: congratulations, this is exactly how your boss'boss would feel.

-1 this answer reads like "why are you against survaillance if you have nothing to hide ?", which of course is a terrible mislead way of thinking. And while the company might be able to impose what they want (at least in countries like the US where labour laws are mightily underdeveloped), that doesn't mean people will take it. Babysitting your employees like that might increase turn over and skilled people leaving the company for a better workplace. Which of course would hurt the company in the long run.
