@DuarteFarrajotaRamos Thanks for the mention, not sure I'd find the time in the following months. Will definitely think about it though :)
Mar 8, 2022 13:43
@GiantCowFilms Thank you for keeping it up and running :)
Mar 8, 2022 13:36
@AllenSimpson Oh thanks, much more clear now. I couldn't find a lot of info on the interwebz :))
Mar 4, 2022 11:20
How does it know? :))
Mar 4, 2022 11:20
How isn't the shadowcatcher flooded with light from the HDRI?
Mar 4, 2022 11:19
the main thing:

it works amazingly well, but my brain cannot comprehend "HOW" it works so well, because it shouldn't
Mar 4, 2022 11:09
Hey guys, need someone to help me understand shadowcatcher :)
Jan 1, 2022 18:41
@MarkusvonBroady Oh, that actually makes a lot more sense, thanks :). And thanks for the personalized gif ;). Happy new year

Q: Knife project error (Bug v2.93.4)

EbiI've looked through the other posts, none of them helped me. Keep getting "No other selected objects found to use for projection" when trying to use the 'Knife Project' tool. Very confused, not sure what am I doing wrong, I am selecting one object and the second one, entering edit mode and search...

Dec 29, 2021 12:01
Oh. just found this.
Dec 29, 2021 11:59
Hey guys. Been playing with 3.0 and can't make the Knife Project tool work. Works fine in 2.93. Anyone can confirm this before I report a bug? :)

Q: What's the most fun way to make a Snowman in Blender? [winter challenge] ❄︎❄︎❄︎

Jachym Michal Previous challenge: What's the most fun way to create a fork in Blender?? Winter is here, and I'm trying to build a snowman ☃︎. But my Blender freezes after the first snowball! (is it because of the ice?) There's gotta be a better way! How would YOU build a snowman? Use shaders, particles, pyth...

Dec 1, 2021 11:57
Hello everyone :))
There's a new challenge in town, and you're welcome to join in
Nov 23, 2021 12:41
@AllenSimpson Thanks btw, had to make sure my memory ain't faulty :))
Nov 23, 2021 12:40
@AllenSimpson Yeah, I remember testing it in 2.8 and the difference was very noticeable.
Nov 22, 2021 20:57
Hi, need someone to riddle me this—
Does HDRI resolution affect rendertimes at all for you? Did it ever?

Just switched 2K for 19K and rendertime is the same....? Is Blender toying with me? :))
Nov 6, 2021 10:34
@TrietVoNguyenMinh Hi :). Keep in mind that PNGs don't support emissive+transparent pixels. For compositing use OpenEXR.
Sep 11, 2021 14:51
@user1271772 Hi :). What kind of Blender generated graphics do you have in mind? Vector formats would only be useful for exporting freestyle outlines and UV maps afaik.
Jul 19, 2021 19:39
@DuarteFarrajotaRamos I know some people are new to this, but I always admired moonboots' patience :)
Jul 18, 2021 08:50
@MichaelS Glad you made it work ;)
Jul 18, 2021 08:35
@MichaelS Hi :). There are such posts for other topics (curves/black render), but afaik not for transparency. You can share a part of your scene pasteall.org/blend it's probably something simple
Jul 15, 2021 18:45
Hey guys, @RobinBetts just hit 40k :)
Jun 18, 2021 21:15
@AllenSimpson Please do tell us more, man :)
May 18, 2021 17:35
@DuarteFarrajotaRamos Well 60k is just around the corner :)
May 18, 2021 06:23
@DuarteFarrajotaRamos No seriously, congrats, well deserved :)
May 18, 2021 06:18
@DuarteFarrajotaRamos ahahaha it's still stuck there :). No congratulations until it hit's 50k, you know the rules guys! :D

Q: We are switching to system fonts on May 10, 2021

Aaron ShekeyUpdate - These changes are now live! TL;DR We’re shipping system fonts as our default font stack. We plan to do this on May 10th, 2021. What? We’re planning on specifying system fonts on Stack Overflow and the Stack Exchange Network. On macOS and iOS, you’ll see things set in San Francisco. On Wi...

@MarkusvonBroady Probably this:

@batFINGER Nice. I also do enjoy your "devil's advocate" answer :)

@snickers_stickers I only ever did two blender tutorials (BlenderGuru's donut and anvil) to learn the software. After that, I dived straight into modeling everything I could get my hands on and can highly recommend it :)
May 2, 2021 07:04
@snickers_stickers The "replicating" approach is a basic learning tool applicable anywhere - I learned it when studying design and architecture. Works great for me :).
May 2, 2021 06:57
I like high-quality models from here: 3dmodelhaven.com/models
May 2, 2021 06:55
Regarding topology - Have you tried "replicating" an existing high-quality model? Redoing someone else's work is a very effective way to learn + you'll get to know the industry quality standards.
May 2, 2021 06:53
Right, totally understand your frustration :).
I'm at a similar point now, so I'll share what works for me.
May 2, 2021 06:43
@snickers_stickers No prob :). Are you asking mainly about getting good topology when modeling, or overall art direction when modeling new stuff from scratch?
May 2, 2021 06:40
Just posting this here, so the discussion can go on after it's closed as opinion-based :)

Q: How to get better at blender -- the artistic side?

snickers_stickersTLDR: How can I get better at blender when I am good at the tools but not the artistic aspects? Hi! I have been learning blender for about a year now. I am very comfortable with the technology and the tool. However, I struggle to make a lot of blender models from scratch and struggle with getting...

Apr 23, 2021 15:00
@AllenSimpson It's Allen! Allen! Allen, everybody.
Apr 19, 2021 13:41
@DuarteFarrajotaRamos Thanks for keeping this site neat and tidy, we all appreciate it very much :))
Apr 12, 2021 05:55
@David Noted :)
Mar 5, 2021 15:40
@AllenSimpson My pleasure :). I want to use it in a project, and since I couldn't get there myself, dropping some bounty is the decent thing to do :)

Jul 3, 2021 09:41
Hey :). Yeah, that's a limitation. You need to change the orientation of the camera using the transform panel. Or create multiple cameras and switch between them.
Jul 3, 2021 09:41
Hello :). You can simply create a 1000mm lens camera, look through it and check lock camera to view. And of course, that camera can also be orthographic.

Feb 25, 2021 07:00
Yes, you are right :). However Bump mapping can't properly use the height information. You need to plug the Height map into Displacement node, to take full advantage of it.
Feb 23, 2021 17:10
- but when used as a Displacement map, the same flat black/white/grey areas give very different results. Displacement can use all the information provided.
Feb 23, 2021 17:07
Or put another way
- flat areas, whether black/white/grey all look the same when used as a Bump map. No difference.
