I think it would be far from pointless to have AI asking questions, it would be a hint about its "thought process". Contrary to most people I was not that impressed by this new generation of AI, as I see them more statistic predictive text as proper thinking. But then it leads to the question, are we humans, by the way we learn language, really more than elaborated statistical predictive text generators?

Don't know if this is worth an answer, but my case no. When I was 9 in France there wasn't a lot of magazines, most of them were dedicated to specific machines. There was no internet and few (no) knowledgeable people to help. I was frustrated to find that the long Amstrad GFA Basic code I typed wouldn't run in Atari ST Omikron. Didn't know the details, it was like a magic formula and before I even started to learn english. So no translation (and considering machine differences, sometimes not possible). At 10 I found the Omikron manual that came with the machine and started to learn by myself..

@Flater Your point is valid in theory of course, maybe we should live in a perfect workplace where all coders are highly ethical, where the code base is perfect and you have unlimited money and time to develop features. Unfortunately I don't, and I would have hard time to convince my boss that it will take a week to add a simple extra feature because I need to go through tens of thousands of lines of code to refactor and re-test everything. I do it when I can..

What about passing a single extra parameter in the format Object / Associative array? It seems to me a good solution for a language that doesn't have named parameters. You then have readability for your options in the call, while being able to fix an existing function by adding a functionnality without refactoring existing code

@jamesqf thanks, that's why I asked, english is not my mother tongue and I had never seen this version

Shouldn't it be "tiniest" instead of "teeniest"?

difficult question: it's forbidden to say Jehovah!

@ssokolow true, I remember my good old Atari 1040STe (that had a visual OS in the ROM), if a game didn't boot automatically and you had to find the ".prg" (exe) to double click, it was considered poor design (en even in this case, there still was no way to quit the game once launched)

I am not a hire interviewer but if I saw "health issue which is now resolved" I would surely ask. People often lie in their resumes or minimize flaws, I would doubt it is actually resolved, and would know if this issue can affect the job I offer. This is probably not the best solution to avoid questions being asked. And I would see no reason for the OP not to answer it was cancer, avoid an answer here can lead to assumptions it was something that can cause problems in jobs and wants to hide, like mental health issues for example

Note that if you plan to work for someone, some basic communication skills (that can be adapted in case of disability) are necessary to convey the information needed to describe your task, report difficulties to your hierarchy, etc. It just cannot be avoided. One basic goal of an interview is to check you understand mutually with your future employer, speak the same language, in a way. And this skill can be improved if you lack it..

@SAIPeregrinus Even if english is the "international programming language" one has to adapt to countries so there is no definitive pronounciation: here in France we are kind forced to use "Ess-Ash-A" because or else you would say "Chat", which is the word for "cat"; so no-one says "Shah" here, people would be confused

"I could just throw a black hole or another star nearby", to be honest, you probably couldn't, I think moving a star will prove to be kinda hard, and a black hole is worse. This makes me say that your question is probably missing a time frame or expected scientific level for your setup. If you're willing to admit possibility to "throw a black hole or another star", you probably mean this story is not happening tomorrow, it would help us to know how far into the hypothetical you allow yourself to go

@Mast yeah that makes me chuckle every time i hear PHP is dead.. Makes me think of COBOL devs that may have heard that for decades, yet still work with it and are among best paid devs. Never underestimate the power of legacy of long proven stable solutions, while "amazing new stuff" can pass out in five years when trends end. And there's another explanation to the 79% than just servers, in one word: Wordpress

Maybe you are too young to know this, but everything was beige at that time, we invented colors in the 90's (sorry, yes I know where is the door --> [])

Actually it's not even guaranteed that it would be easy with FTL.. I suggest reading "The Forever War", great book and has mindblowing considerations about it..

We touch an almost philosophical question here: if an AI can pass these tests, couldn't it be considered human in a way? Or wee need a more precise definition of what is human..

@virolino I agree, that's why i said "can". I realize that my comment may not apply to certain cases/jobs specially ones where you are expected to be able to be insincere (dunno, lawyers?).. I also have chosen from a youth rude experience not to be forced to take a job that could be damaging to me, but that may not bes the case for people in emergency situations
Jan 15, 2020 13:43
Spoiler alert: you can perfectly be able to sell yourself and be sincere. This goes along with @Voo's comment. It can also make you avoid toxic working environments when interviewer are the ones that will manage you. I agree with the rest of the answer, but you can perfectly express that you disliked your previous work environment without talking bad about the company/managers. This has led me to always part in good terms from all my jobs

Also, if not explicitly stated in the employment contract, it is not really reasonnable that the employee should be joignable or connected to work resources outside of work hours

Also, one has to keep in mind that computer security is not really about making things impossible, but rather make it so long to do that it's not reasonnable for an attacker to try it. Obfuscation is adding another time layer to your security. If an attacker hesitates between 2 targets, an unobfuscated one is also easier to evaluate what it will cost in time to breach it. But the benefit is hard to evaluate
