@mannerpots "Your job as an applicant is to make sure that your resume conveys everything you want it to" No, not really. Your job is to make your resume pass the first selection hurdle, and then the second. In both cases, you need to make it look like you have put effort into THAT application, ie it needs to contain stuff that personalises it to that company.

@o.m. "...the Administration could not accuse Goldberg without accusing Hegseth..." Oh, how naive - just you wait and see what charges they concoct. Actually, they could probably just about manage to press charges based on intent: the reporter believed it to be classified, even though Hesketh etc "knew" it wasn't.

Aug 14, 2024 21:44
Are you sure that the style MUST change? Clearly it is readable enough for you to be able to interpret it without too much difficulty.

Aug 2, 2024 19:32
Do we have aircraft?

Jun 16, 2024 00:55
This doesn't appear to make sense to me, if we consider a case where there is a Force, but no movement.

Jun 13, 2024 19:15
@terdon Again no, the chances of surviving ANY hit from a vehicle travelling at 40mph is close to nil, and that includes glancing blows rather than the major hit that would occur if falling over. Different story if a 20mph limit had been specified, but it wasn't.
Jun 13, 2024 19:15
@terdon Not that simple. If the incident occurred two feet in front of the vehicle, the collision/death was inevitable, even at 39.9mph
Jun 13, 2024 19:15
@Ethan In this example, could the motorist have stopped in time if travelling within the speed limit?

Jun 7, 2024 15:59
@telion This is a Philosophy forum, not a bible class. All sacred texts were written down by men, and then read by other people - both provide some degree of bias. The Catholic Church is not significantly different from any other cult/religion in claiming a divine basis for its teachings.
Jun 7, 2024 15:59
@telion I should probably have written priest with a lower-case P since I meant it generically - Synod; Rabbi; Pope; Minister; Shaman; Cardinal; Dalai Llama - whatever.
Jun 7, 2024 15:59
Why do you believe that atheists are any different to theists? Interpretation of morality tales within sacred texts ultimately lies with human biases. ie Morality is what the Priest says it is.

May 9, 2024 16:17
@JBH How do you expect us to give data on things that have not been found? All that we can prove is that we can see things as small as 2m. There is still plenty of talk about a "missing ninth planet" - 'we' have been actively looking for it, and it clearly exceeds the necessary dimensions (if it exists.)

Feb 26, 2024 00:06
There might be technical issues with doing so, due to the very nature of these items - how do you identify a chemical that doesn't actually exist, if you get my meaning?

Feb 7, 2024 21:05
I would think that the scale would count towards intent too - a handful looks like 'personal use' while hundreds doesn't.

Nov 27, 2023 23:27
WRT to this being a packet or not - 'packet' can be used as a dimensional quantity, i.e. "this is a packet of crisps, poured into a bowl" as opposed to say, "half a packet"
Nov 27, 2023 23:27
@FumbleFingers I would put good money on those being "Walkers Ridge Cut" of one flavour or another.

Nov 27, 2023 21:41
Shavings curl naturally, chips don't. (When we are talking about wood, rather than potato.)

Nov 21, 2023 21:15
In Scottish English, "slept in" is perfectly normal for an accidental situation. It is the default phrase in my experience.

Nov 10, 2023 11:32
Firstly I want to repeat the question asked above, about the reason you want to fire this employee. Secondly (and somewhat related) what is the location? (i.e. what are the legalities of any of this.)

Aug 9, 2023 23:23
@Slarty The plane would not need to be further out if is just spun round faster, thus making each day much shorter.

Jun 26, 2023 21:38
Downvoted for stating that DU is dangerously radioactive, which is not correct. Like most metals, it is toxic, which is a far greater issue.

Jun 21, 2023 20:31
Why would you want a firing on your CV? If you ever move on again, it may cost you far more than any severance payment.

Apr 23, 2023 05:56
@gerrit Burning gas to heat a pot is MORE efficient than burning it at a power station miles away.

Mar 17, 2023 19:41
I meant to say vortices. Not 100% related, but also pre-empting anyone suggesting that. Note the way that the effect switches on instantly, rather than gradually appearing - that is not 'natural' - there was clearly a transition of some sort that started it.
Mar 17, 2023 19:41
Note that there are no contrails visible from the wingtips, etc.

Dec 13, 2022 09:14
And ironically, failing to explain something like that, shows that the manager's soft skills could be improved!

Nov 15, 2022 20:03
Cheaper cost of living (probably)

Sep 1, 2022 12:42
The 45 degree idea is good, if carried out from the top of the pendulum.
I think I need to repeat that the crux of this question is to avoid the use of Invar etc. - I know all about gridiron pendula, and other mechanical methods of temperature compensation - I am trying to find a modern method of _avoiding_ all that, as far as possible.
Aug 30, 2022 22:23
It will be a pendulum. Since measuring a moving object might be tricky, I may choose to measure a stationary duplicate instead.
Aug 30, 2022 22:23
@jpa By how much?
Aug 30, 2022 22:23
@ConnorWolf I was hoping that there might be some way of using a laser bounced off a target at both ends of the bar, which wouldn't suffer from that issue.
Aug 30, 2022 22:23
@Neil_UK Part of the point of direct measurement is to avoid the need to use Invar (or similar.)

Aug 21, 2022 02:58
Given how damaged these are already, I wouldn't be trying to enlarge the slot, rather I would use a "footprint"/"molegrip" set of locking pliers to grip the head and turn it that way, after applying some penetrating oil first.

Jun 11, 2022 16:49
@fraxinus Actually, its really easy to dry the rear brakes in that situation, just gently pull the hand-brake, though wasn't aware of how/why the rear brakes wouldn't come on from pressing the foot-brake?
Jun 11, 2022 16:49
@fraxinus Disc at front, drum at rear.
Jun 11, 2022 16:49
With regard to brake + accelerator - some cars, such as mine, are intelligent enough to notice this, and automatically kills the accelerator after a moment. When I was younger, I was taught to dry my brakes after driving through a flood or a ford, but current car doesn't like me doing this!

Mar 25, 2021 00:23
"Incandescents love hot places and work better there." - that needs some sort of reference...

Mar 18, 2021 01:43
"William Shakespeare is still alive" - that is a fact, either true or false (clearly false by everything we currently know) quite different from the possibility of an egg re-forming, which is merely a matter of adding up probabilities.

Mar 14, 2021 19:25
@MartinSchröder / r13 but there is a difference between printing 'cash' , and actual 'money in the bank'. The former isn't really directly relevant to this question - it's like a Company issuing more shares - it dilutes what already exists.

Jan 27, 2021 14:27
Is the lower figure actually meant to be a minimum? My first read is that that is merely the lower bound of a range, i.e. if you expect to print 151 pages per month, then this printer is recommended for you, but if you only print 149, then a different printer would be better.

Dec 8, 2020 04:15
@fraxinus I see, makes more sense now that I see that comment - it was hidden first time around.
Dec 8, 2020 04:15
@fraxinus Technically, you are wrong - low power devices like lamps SHOULD be fitted with low-rated fuses, and only high-power devices fitted with 13A fuses. On the very, very rare occasions when a fuse blows, the general public are quite likely to insert a 13A fuse because they don't know any better, but there certainly are three values in general use.

Sep 17, 2020 19:28
To back up that last comment - a Subject Matter Expert is called that for a reason - they are not (typically) expected to be System's Analysts. If the info they give you is at the wrong level, it is because _ you _ have asked the question incorrectly. As technical folk, they are likely to appreciate short pithy questions far more than big open questions, unless they are really bored.

May 21, 2020 15:22
I think you have answered your own question, several times - fins might be more efficient for a given volume, but NOT for a given mass. And in space, or more specifically at launch mass (or lack thereof) is very much king.

Aug 31, 2019 09:10
@DigitalChris Seeing the card, even for a long time, doesn't directly reveal your password unless you are stupid enough to write it on the card itself. The theory is that you remember a simple password, and 'encrypt' it every time you need it. Even with the card, an attacker doesn't know if you used 'Password' or '123456'

Jun 18, 2019 18:32
Saying that the house itself 'uses resources' or 'needs utilities' is almost completely bogus - it is the occupiers who use them.

May 30, 2019 20:24
@Caleth the third-largest party in the House of Commons is the SNP - not even mentioned in the orginal quote, with around fifty MPs

"I don't need to take crap from PIs my own age" - what does age have to do with it?
