if you are using that option, you will have to give it a mount point and not the block device, IIRC

Partition type is empty, that's the problem. Use gparted to create a partition table if necessary...

instead of what it says there, use Match user administrator and chroot %h/Public

@AnwarShah syslinux will only write bootloader to a FAT formatted partition/drive (beta can write to ntfs too). for ext2/3/4 use extlinux.
