@Wesley Ohi :-) I've been on vacation and just started the new job last week. I've also been scarce on SF in general, haven't found much time for it lately.
Aug 7, 2013 04:09
Heh
Aug 7, 2013 04:07
@MarkHenderson Even though a motorbike is usually the best getaway vehicle? :-P
Jul 11, 2013 22:03
@voretaq7 Mkay
Jul 11, 2013 22:02
What are we supposed to use instead of Too Localised now?
Jul 2, 2013 17:21
@MikeyB You can infer what I said from the responses ;)
Jul 2, 2013 17:08
Thanks. I need to keep things kinda quiet because if news gets out I may have a problem.
Jul 2, 2013 17:08
@freiheit Yup
Jul 2, 2013 17:06
Ugh, waited too long to delete that -- can a mod kill my FB message?
Jul 2, 2013 17:01
@WesleyDavid Indeed. Otherwise I would be out of here.
Jul 2, 2013 17:00
@WesleyDavid No, I actually can't. My visa can't be transferred to a different company.
Jul 2, 2013 17:00
@WesleyDavid The former. I can't really leave due to my visa situation.
Jul 2, 2013 16:59
@WesleyDavid Ugh. No.
Jul 2, 2013 16:59
@WesleyDavid Yup, I've been a bit scarce
May 17, 2013 16:06
@MichaelHampton Aww
May 17, 2013 16:05
@MichaelHampton Remote Arc-over-IP cattle prods??!
Apr 11, 2013 03:29
@WesleyDavid Oi!
Apr 3, 2013 16:45
@JourneymanGeek Then mention that! Add a Personal Projects section if you want to separate it.
Apr 3, 2013 16:44
Have you setup DNS/DHCP? Backup software? SElinux/AppArmor?
Apr 3, 2013 16:43
@JourneymanGeek What databases have you configured? What languages can you code in (even basic level)? Any CMS/applications?
Apr 3, 2013 16:41
:P
Apr 3, 2013 16:41
(And "LAMP" doesn't count.)
Apr 3, 2013 16:41
@JourneymanGeek Reading that as an interviewer, the only actual technologies I see are Ubuntu and Lighttpd -- I'm just saying that you need more of those.
Apr 3, 2013 16:36
@Jacob Then you got a bad interviewer :P
Apr 3, 2013 16:34
Personal projects are also good and should be mentioned :)
Apr 3, 2013 16:33
@JourneymanGeek That's fine, it doesn't have to be official -- just stuff that you've actually done.
Apr 3, 2013 16:30
@JourneymanGeek Try to mention some specific technologies and projects you've worked on; interviewers like to see tangible experience.
Mar 26, 2013 03:56
@WesleyDavid Ye, 2.6 or 2.7. As @JourneymanGeek says, there are still compatibility issues with libraries, so just look out for that.
Mar 26, 2013 03:46
@WesleyDavid I haven't touched Python 3 yet, but I hear that 3.3 is good enough to use now
Mar 26, 2013 03:45
@WesleyDavid I can't find it right now, I'll have to have a proper look sometime
Mar 26, 2013 03:43
@WesleyDavid I came across a good guide a while ago, let me try dig it up
Mar 26, 2013 03:40
Doing this web app side project has made me realise that I don't like CSS/JS, and so personally I'm going to avoid that stuff, but it can be the right approach.
Mar 26, 2013 03:38
@WesleyDavid It completely depends on the application -- it can be an appropriate choice. The UI for our cloud OS is a JS app and that works well. On the otherhand I don't think writing StackExchange like that is the right choice.
Mar 26, 2013 03:34
@WesleyDavid You mean a full client-side app with an API on the server instead of separately served pages?
Mar 26, 2013 03:33
@WesleyDavid There's plenty of other good stuff in it, even if you don't use the multi-site capabilities.
Mar 26, 2013 03:32
@WesleyDavid That's not the impression I got, and it's certainly not the case
Mar 26, 2013 03:31
@WesleyDavid There's certainly a lot of scope for doing web dev right; most of it is pretty crap TBH.
Mar 26, 2013 03:31
@WesleyDavid I have recently done a side project for someone which is a web app, using Django though.
Mar 26, 2013 03:30
@WesleyDavid Nope :)
Mar 26, 2013 03:30
@WesleyDavid Server side system management is how I'd describe it. It's kinda webby in that it uses HTTP/REST, but it's more a full app.
Mar 26, 2013 03:28
@WesleyDavid I'm not sure that it's necessary to start with a "beginner framework"; I'd probably suggest starting with Django anyway. They really do things right.
Mar 26, 2013 03:27
@WesleyDavid Indeed.
Mar 26, 2013 03:26
@WesleyDavid Yup, it's very flexible.
Mar 26, 2013 03:26
(Django FTFW BTW.)
Mar 26, 2013 03:25
@WesleyDavid Python is awesome for that, and the ecosystem is great
Mar 26, 2013 03:25
@WesleyDavid Indeed :P
Mar 26, 2013 03:24
@WesleyDavid Yeah, because those endorsements mean so much...
Mar 26, 2013 03:24
@WesleyDavid I may do.
Mar 26, 2013 03:23
@WesleyDavid Don't, it's very confusing
Mar 26, 2013 03:23
I see the cat is back
