man, i cant wait for this period of looking for a FT job and graduating is over. i want to get back to this project lol
Feb 26, 2020 20:39
i started working in a fork of our repo at work because i have like 1million experimental branches that i wanted to get rid of from the main repo lol
Feb 26, 2020 20:38
gotcha thanks lol i wanted to make sure what i said at work was correct
Feb 26, 2020 20:32
ok, so let me know if im thinking about this correctly.

a PR between a fork and the original repo basically just moves commits from the fork onto the original repo, right?
Feb 24, 2020 23:26
i totally understand. it would be weird seeing one thing and then suddenly seeing it change
Feb 24, 2020 23:17
yeah
Feb 24, 2020 22:35
oh i didn't know that
Feb 24, 2020 22:35
maybe, i mean you're canadian ;)
Feb 24, 2020 22:35
i was just oofing at people who put the expression on different lines as the argument name
Feb 24, 2020 22:34
i was agreeing with you
Feb 24, 2020 22:34
nah lol
Feb 24, 2020 22:34
yeah, like when you get punched in the gut you say 'oof'
Feb 24, 2020 22:33
that's a big oof from me dawg
Feb 2, 2020 19:36
@this cmon man even i could've told you that
Feb 2, 2020 01:00
@M.Doerner thanks lol i was going to do that but i had to step away for a minute
Feb 2, 2020 00:53
@M.Doerner oh gotcha, I figured that would Regarding work too. thanks for the heads up
Feb 1, 2020 17:27
can i reliably use a linux VM to compile a dll, written in C, that would work on a linux box? a lot of the SO posts that im finding say "just use cygwin"
Feb 1, 2020 17:07
and im not really sure which words i should be using to look up things like that
Feb 1, 2020 17:06
all i've ever heard of is COM
Feb 1, 2020 17:05
are there any other specifications like COM in the .NET realm?
Feb 1, 2020 15:01
is marshalling basically just used for interop between languages?
Feb 1, 2020 02:44
it's one of the reasons why i like attempting to contribute to RD, so that im the one banging my head on the wall trying to understand something lol
Feb 1, 2020 02:41
they initially just did not believe me lol
Feb 1, 2020 02:41
it is, but at times im like "man, why do i feel like im the only one in the room who knows this concept?". like i had to thoroughly prove that if i inherit a class, then it will also inherit the methods
Feb 1, 2020 02:37
like a solid 70% of what i propose gets implemented and has really improved things
Feb 1, 2020 02:36
it's good for me career-wise though because i keep introducing concepts that are foreign to them and they seem pretty receptive to how i present my solutions
Feb 1, 2020 02:33
i hear ya, but at least 1 of them did through rote learning. one of the other guys is definitely better
Feb 1, 2020 02:27
im imagining the same nightmares that i have at my internship of working with mech. engs. and EEs who were forced to learn how to program through rote learning
Feb 1, 2020 02:25
@theVBE-it'srightforme yeah and good luck with that lol
Feb 1, 2020 02:22
@theVBE-it'srightforme i think that it would be pretty cool to have a job working on something like that though
Feb 1, 2020 02:09
tbh though, if you have libraries that can actually do the matrix math, the difficult part is abstracting everything to the point that some end user can actually use it without needing to reference the source code
Feb 1, 2020 02:07
thinking back on it now, i don't even know if it even was terribly accurate because i didn't really know how to test things with matlab at the time lol
Feb 1, 2020 02:06
it's not fun at all lol
Feb 1, 2020 02:06
@theVBE-it'srightforme i've implemented a very restricted cfd program for a very specific config for fun using matlab and let me tell you
Feb 1, 2020 01:51
im trying to work towards being able to use software like openFOAM since down the line I think that I want to work in an area that would actually utilize it, such as doing thermal analyses of nuclear reactors or solar-mechanical systems
Feb 1, 2020 01:47
i have everything installed for openFOAM too lol
Feb 1, 2020 01:46
@IvenBach I really want to dive headfirst into openFOAM, but I really need to get my OS project to its 1st release (it's just a library of steam table C functions)
Feb 1, 2020 01:34
@MathieuGuindon querying me about anything pop culture related is like asking a baby to implement CFD lol
Feb 1, 2020 01:29
@IvenBach this would be an equally interesting question too lol
Feb 1, 2020 01:28
I needed to look him up because i live under a rock lol
Feb 1, 2020 01:25
@MathieuGuindon my 1st and only question is how?
Feb 1, 2020 00:00
the only way, afaik, to make something "reference type" in matlab is to make a class and just inherit the base "handle" abstract class
Jan 31, 2020 23:59
> you mean i need to make a class just so i can pass this? ugh!
Jan 31, 2020 23:59
funny thing is that the other intern in the office was wondering why his changes really slowed down his testing. turns out that it's better to pass references to giant matrices instead of copying them over and over again
Jan 31, 2020 23:57
i was really surprised that matlab even supported OO
Jan 31, 2020 23:56
oh man, trust me. i had to learn what value-types were fast while working with matlab lol
Jan 31, 2020 23:55
i figured as much tbh
Jan 31, 2020 23:55
@mansellan lol what the hell, that's it?
Jan 31, 2020 23:53
i still have no clue what the difference is between reference types and pointers; it's something that's on my list of things to do that i never get to
Jan 31, 2020 23:47
it's 7 years older than me lol
