@Pilot6 yes, understand fully now. Was confused because I guess he already installed the bionic kernel without really knowing it. I'm on bionic, so didn't know if 16.04 kernel was up to 4.15.0-24 yet.

I would not suggest using a kernel from 18.04 for 16.04, as an answer. If it does work that is fine, but there is an issue that needs to be addressed... if he is on 16.04 there needs to be a working kernel for the driver. The kernel he needs to use should be available for 16.04.
