Sounds like something worth looking into.

Nov 2, 2020 13:55
zoom on most of the lenses is mechanical... but i wouldn't expect any major issues with it.
Nov 2, 2020 13:54
landscape photography, not much moves, so you can take your time focusing
Nov 2, 2020 13:53
if you don't mind manual focus... manual lenses cost less and you can try out different things for the same price.
Nov 2, 2020 13:51
and some dslr stuff is not by wire.
Nov 2, 2020 13:51
most of the modern stuff is by wire... except manual lenses.
Nov 2, 2020 13:48
you're looking at mainly fujifilm, right?
Nov 2, 2020 13:48
i wouldn't expect any problems with them. but if there are, like sandy feeling or sticks in some spot, then something is wrong.
Nov 2, 2020 13:47
so you can move them... and they should function smoothly... but they're not mechanically connected to anything.
Nov 2, 2020 13:46
focus and aperture on XF lenses is "by wire"
Nov 2, 2020 13:46
what's acceptable and not comes with experience handling more equipment, which you don't starting out.
Nov 2, 2020 13:46
i think try to get as close to perfect condition as you can.
Nov 2, 2020 13:45
(talking about lens glass... for the body of the lens, it doesn't matter as much, except fungus)
Nov 2, 2020 13:44
fungus... for an XF lens... not acceptable.
Nov 2, 2020 13:43
scratches may or may not be acceptable... but definitely lower price.
Nov 2, 2020 13:43
lenses... hold up to lamp... some dust is normal.
Nov 2, 2020 13:42
unless dust that can be blown away
Nov 2, 2020 13:42
if you can see it with naked eye, probably not normal.
Nov 2, 2020 13:41
fungus is not.
Nov 2, 2020 13:41
scratches are not...
Nov 2, 2020 13:41
minor dust is normal.
Nov 2, 2020 13:40
There are others.

Q: What is the best way to clean the sensor on a interchangeable lens camera (mirrorless or digital SLR)?

Rowland ShawI've got a couple of spots of dust on the sensor of my Canon 20D. A rocket blower isn't shifting them, and I'm ridiculously scared of some of the more direct methods for cleaning sensors — what methods/systems have you tried, and how successful have they been?

Nov 2, 2020 13:39
there are questions on this site about it.
Nov 2, 2020 13:39
dust can be blown off with a blower and or cleaned.
Nov 2, 2020 13:38
you can also take a photo of the sky or diffuse background with a small aperture... that will show sensor dust.
Nov 2, 2020 13:36
you can look at it physically... see if there is anything visible...
Nov 2, 2020 13:36
or you can use an image viewer that shows exif data.
Nov 2, 2020 13:35
there are websites you can search for that will read the count from an image for you.
Nov 2, 2020 13:35
for fujifilm, it's in the Exif of each image.
Nov 2, 2020 13:34
but low number isn't really that meaningful.
Nov 2, 2020 13:34
and you can factor in shutter count. high number means it was definitely heavily used.
Nov 2, 2020 13:33
that type of thing
Nov 2, 2020 13:33
a 10 year old camera can be expected to have some signs of wear
Nov 2, 2020 13:33
If a camera is 5 years old, but looks new, it was well cared for.
Nov 2, 2020 13:32
cracks, scratches, etc.
Nov 2, 2020 13:32
once you know it's working, you can have a sense of how well it's cared for by the external condition.
Nov 2, 2020 13:31
also try to get some sample photos to evaluate. for focus problems or whatever.
Nov 2, 2020 13:31
even if you aren't familiar with it.
Nov 2, 2020 13:30
if they demonstrate everything, you'll be able to sense whether everything is working the way it should.
Nov 2, 2020 13:28
have them demonstrate everything...
Nov 2, 2020 13:28
and lenses.
Nov 2, 2020 13:28
If you're going to meet them multiple times, you can ask them to show you how the camera works.
Nov 2, 2020 13:26
if you think someone is willing to sell you a broken camera, why would you buy from that person?
Nov 2, 2020 13:25
if you are concerned the other person may cheat you, it's better to just not deal with that person.
Nov 2, 2020 13:24
it comes down to how much can you trust the other person.
Nov 2, 2020 13:24
with buyer protection, usually there's a record of the shipments
Nov 2, 2020 13:23
problem with meeting and exchanging in person is there's no record.
Nov 2, 2020 13:22
don't know about your country though.
