Her PR seems up to snuff.... Compare her productivity to holders of real BAs and if you still want to fire her, ask yourself why you only noticed her shortcomings now. ---- if you need an emotional closer, tell her you found out, and that she could have gotten notice over this.

If the short at 100V is not just an artefact, you should be able to feed mains power to the board and look fir the lights and smoke....

The answers will depend heavily on the dpecifics of you instantaneous transport: will it work planetside? Will it work even to asteroids? What volumes and masses can be moved? Or just info like in the Envoy novels?

Have a name that includes a hyphen, an accent; Can confirm UX is weirdly focussed on alphabet input. Banks, Airlines, Government Services, all have at one point or another rejected my correctly spelled name, forced me to enter it incorrectly and then later bemoaned the non-equivalency. It is a disgrace.

Mana = 'life force'. Ok, but what does that actually mean? Can they magic with mana? Could they magic themselves a young body? Can young people gain mana by destroying their body? Is time travel possible with mana (and if so, what are the rules for that, regarding mana?) - i think as soon as you are clear on all the repercussions and connections of a mana based system, your question will be void.

You coild pick up a strong alpha emitter with your bare hands, to no ill effect. Alpha radiation can only pass a few ten um of watery material, and a few cm of air, so no way to detect it at a distance. Swallow or inhale even a microscopic alpha emitter and your life expectancy plummets (because those membranes inside you are thin enough). So if it's radioactive dust that is to fear, ie pu238, any ranged sensor, "ranged" here meaning "not-touch", is out. Does it have to be universal, or are you looking for a danger/warning combo to use?

Sharks are said to be very averse to being 'bubbled' - so maybe it would be suficient for the hero to take his diving knife and cut the buddy-line of his breathing gear (usually you have two breathing lines, one for you, and one for emergencies of other people or malfunctions in yours) - the line would instantly become a high pressure release of air, possibly deterring the shark long enough for the diver to get away.

Ein festes Muster, oder veränderlich? Ein Muster von hell dunkel, oder aus Farben? Und bitte noch einen Satz, in dem der Begriff verwendet werden soll, mit möglichst viel Kontext.

@PieterGeerkens i bungled the reference to your name in my above reply to you

... And if your ire is about the word 'broken', i am not aware of a definition of that word that makes everything after being broken ok. Iirc some descriptions of the US Marines training include 'being broken and rebuilt' - what i wanted to transport was the impression of a grueling and formative event.

@Pieter Geerkens : Your first two sentences i get. But everything after 'Further' is incomprehensible to me. Would you please rephrase? .... about your initial remarks: Yes i relate what i remember about what my grandfather told me twenty years ago, about things that happened fifty to sixty years before that. If you miss any specific information, i can try to ameliorate.

@DTCooper how is a pen (+food, water and protection from predators) different from a prison (which you excluded from the possible answers in the question?) ?

... and if you're counting non-enemy-action transit deaths in the military (helicopter crashes etc), you should count school transit deaths too. Or: just intentional killings (so military: IEDs, arms fire, friendly fire, amok-runs, but NOT suicides, accidents... this last comparison (done "per person subjected" so military: every military member abroad and at home, civilian employee and family (because those can be subject to, i.e., amok-runs at bases) and schools: every student, faculty member, janitor and social worker, counting every death intentionally caused by a second person.

@ArashHowaida : You now say 2000m³ around the locus of the hangar should be low entropy? a hangar 100m² and 20m high is already 2000m³. ist that extra?.. and you still haven't talked about the constraint of hangar volume, and only hinted at the ingress/egress (who can get out and in how? only nanos? humans too? must vehicles fit in?)
May 18, 2018 14:52
And with the floor-space: 100m²? Of 1 cm height? Of 10m height? Round? Can we assume a volume and shape that volume? can the 100m² be in any orientation to gravity? does there need to be gravity?

I'm trying to get into the blackbox vibe here, but we still need to know more about the outside of the blackbox: Your hangar, being 100m³ of hard vacuum at 0.1K is now located under water in the middle of a hyper-saline, hyper pressure black smoker with average temperature in the 200°C range - are the nanos still happy?

800mi/hr is plenty fast. For small things that is not attainable (mr. Reynolds won't approve), if the medium is not going the same speed - but if you can create winds with 800mi/hr anywhere on earth, you do not need nanobots. Do they clump together for travel?

The hangar would need to be in the (speed x battery_life) range of the target, would it not? 5760miles is a lot, but with return it's down to ~2800miles, and if they are supposed to operate in that place... and "speed" was taken from your max-speed value, so i guess real range is much lower than that. How are the nanos deployed?

If you arbitrarily leave utilitarianism ("5 is 4 more than 1") out of the picture, you'll have to tell us what other constraints there are - are people specific, or abstractions? Is the decider specific or an abstraction? What other philiosophical sets of rules are to be respected/disregarded for the answer? also: is the coin-flipping a picture for any random binary process? if not, what happens if it falls on the rim? if yes, could you substitute forming a committee and sampling their mindset at a random given moment?

@OneSurvivor: Please list a comprehensive account of ALL the constraints in the question. How big max? How loud max? How deadly min? Technology constraints (you assented to the tube&bullet constraint, but then also assented to a laser)? How many "shots" in what timeframe? ... Because if all you want to do is be deadly over 2 m distance at 0dBA(at target? or at weapon?), you could consider a spear... you can then specify what makes an answer better: sound over deadlyness over size over number-of-shots etc. but we need real constraints, not wishy washy wishes
