"If you don't protect your machine it may end up attacking mine." I like that statement. Interesting perspective. It makes me think of the shared social responsibility of vaccination.

 The DMZ

A serious place where infosec is discussed PS we don't do hard...
Dec 10, 2014 14:00
Ok, I will collect my thoughts and post it on main then, thanks
Dec 10, 2014 14:00
But I have tried to read the disk from a different operating system and I have verified that the disk is encrypted
Dec 10, 2014 13:59
No I do not enter a passphrase.
Dec 10, 2014 13:57
And there's no USB boot key
Dec 10, 2014 13:57
Well the specific thing I am confused about it, is that I have no TPM chip, so how can the encryption key be stored in a safe manner
Dec 10, 2014 13:56
I am curious about how Sophos Safeguard full disk encryption works on a technical level... would that sort of question be appropriate for the main site?

I'm just waiting for my activation grace period to overflow int32, then when it does, FREE WINDOWS!
Oct 27, 2014 14:28
When you're working on answering a question, and that dreaded grey bar "A new answer to this question..." shows up. >__<
Oct 27, 2014 14:27
@cole The domain rename question on main this morning
Oct 27, 2014 14:26
Aaaaaargh beaten by two seconds by freakin' Evan!
Oct 24, 2014 18:39
Well if it's any consolation, it was my Tom Thumb gas rewards that got it down that low, which probably just means I'm taking it up the ass on my grocery bill.
Oct 24, 2014 18:38
I pumped gas for $1.89/gallon today... I feel like I was magically transported to 1990s for a moment.
Oct 24, 2014 18:32
My Whopper candy intake is unhealthy
Oct 22, 2014 20:11
Luckily the CUDA tool kit comes with some really fantastic profiling and tracing tools
Oct 22, 2014 20:09
Nah I just need to optimize the everliving fuck out of it
Oct 22, 2014 20:08
Well I have good news and I have bad news. Good news is I got my first CUDA application working. Bad news is that it's slower than my earlier CPU version. >:(
Oct 22, 2014 19:41
I think I might even start eating dried fruit bats again
Oct 22, 2014 19:40
Nope, and I even live right next to Dallas
Oct 22, 2014 16:19
@cole Your Windows DNS server... is it 2003 or 2008? I seem to remember 2003 trying to use funny high-numbered ports for AXFRs and IXFRs instead of port 53.
Oct 22, 2014 15:58
If I'm on the Windows server and I do nslookup -q=soa company.com do I get a response?
Oct 22, 2014 15:56
SOA record there?
Oct 22, 2014 15:56
zone transfer?
Oct 22, 2014 15:55
What do you mean you can't "do" company.com? What are you trying to do to it?
Oct 22, 2014 15:54
@NathanC Shhhhh don't jinx me
Oct 22, 2014 15:52
@cole Ok, shoot!
Oct 22, 2014 15:52
@Wesley Yes, a stable paycheck will allow you to put up with a lot more than you would otherwise. Funny how that works. ;)
Oct 22, 2014 15:50
How is the new job, @Wesley?
Oct 22, 2014 15:50
Heheh
Oct 22, 2014 15:49
God I love making sweeping changes to production global DNS infrastructure without anyone noticing
Oct 22, 2014 14:22
Guys, we are full of virus.

Oct 8, 2014 16:21
KntDD is expensive as hell :(
Oct 8, 2014 16:10
Basically anything they can do to avoid just answering the $#@ing question
Oct 8, 2014 16:09
Ugh, 99.9% of TechNet and MSDN forum posts = "This post should be moved to X sub-forum"
Oct 8, 2014 16:07
Still better than the TechNet forums
Oct 8, 2014 16:03
Been trying to do some CUDA programming, but it's mind-bending.
Oct 8, 2014 16:01
Yeah
Oct 8, 2014 16:00
And we lost a bro in chat when @MDMarra got hitched!
Oct 8, 2014 15:58
Luckily a good chunk of my upvotes this year came from old answers I gave a year ago or more showing up in people's search engines, etc.
Oct 8, 2014 15:57
I just didn't feel like upvotes and views were as easy to come by as they were a couple years ago. I'm not saying that all my answers were great, but still.
Oct 8, 2014 15:55
I don't know if it was just me, but it seemed like Serverfault really ran out steam this year.
Oct 8, 2014 15:51
Running out of time to get 10k points this year, I wanted my damn rubber duckie from @Wesley :(
Oct 8, 2014 13:38
I guess I would verify that I have no problems enabling it manually first, before trying to automate it
Oct 8, 2014 13:32
@HopelessN00b So... do the PCs have TPMs onboard that are recognized by the OS? Because if they don't I would expect for it to ask for an external place to store the key, like a USB stick, but if they do have TPM chips then I don't get it.
Oct 8, 2014 13:25
Bummer
Oct 8, 2014 13:25
I rarely manage desktops so I haven't had the chance to deploy it en masse
Oct 8, 2014 13:24
@HopelessN00b Maybe better luck with the Bitlocker Powershell module? I bet it's just a wrapper around manage-bde.exe, but the syntax might be easier to figure out
