The GOP thrives being the minority party, they can say "no", put up a fight, put on a show, but not have to actually enact any real policy.

As a recovering Libertarian, you can't get votes to fix a dysfunctional government if the government is not dysfunctional

It's Crenshaw and he "suggested" something. I should take this with many grains of salt. Based on your link to the House rules it'd take a lot to get the rule changed.

> Crenshaw suggests electing a speaker by plurality

Rep. Dan Crenshaw, R-Texas, suggested the House should elect a speaker by a plurality vote, meaning instead of a majority vote, only the candidate with the most votes is elected speaker instead.

This would effectively threaten any potential holdouts against a nominee. If any GOP holdouts vote against a Republican speaker, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., could become speaker.

"Let's see if they want to vote for a Democrat, see if they hate their own party that much," he told reporters.

@User1865345 I'll find the article again.... This proposal was a specific rules change in the house not a conference level rule.

Howdy - I saw a news blurb that someone (Rep Clyde?) proposed making the Speaker vote a plurality instead of a majority. This would force the GOP to vote for one candidate, else they'd hand the speakership to Jeffries.

What would have to happen first to make that rule change? Can someone put a motion to alter the rules on the floor and pass it with a majority vote?

You might consider cross-posting or re-posting over at vi.stackexchange.com . Very on topic for that community.

judaism.stackexchange.com/search?q=work+on+sabbath - I am assuming from the use of "sabbath" and "Saturday" that a link to Jewish guidance may be helpful to you. If I have guessed wrong, there are other religious sites on stackexchange which may help provide some specific advice, scripture, or counsel from a religious perspective on this issue.

Does your past clearance status help or hinder any future clearance applications? Do you intend to stay in a career field that may require clearance in the future? If you do, how would you list getting clearance in July then starting a masters program in September on your resume to a future employer?

Can you post a diagram or other plan showing the property and the fences relative to the pool or yard you want to secure?

Can you update your post or tags with your location? Are you subject to any laws or codes which require you to completely fence in your pool? The legalities should not change your current safety-conscious posture but they may suggest a solution or even force your hand.

islam.stackexchange.com/search?q=%5Bsawm%5D+work shows some posts with Muslims on the other end of this situation. If your coworker is observing a fast for another religion look that up. The posts at Islam.SE seem to suggest that the fast is very much not-negotiable. This is germane to the workplace in that if most adherents are inflexible to skipping a fast, that can help you gauge how strongly the employee may react to being asked to adjust his fasting.

How did you verify the funds in his account? Did you navigate to a website or phone system that the man told you to visit?

Look into "churning". This is typically used for credit card rewards and signup benefits, thebalance.com/what-is-credit-card-churning-4147321, but it can be used for other sign-up bonuses. The churning community will have broken down the rules and risks of these sign up bonuses pretty well.

This closely duplicates: travel.stackexchange.com/questions/13300/… . It may stand on its own merits if it is considered in the context of NYC vs. Paris. Telling someone off in NYC has a different social impact than in Paris. Police procedures in either place are also different. However the fundamental scam is EXACTLY the same and general attitudes and strategies apply in either case. I flagged this before reading the answer below, whoops.

An accessible source of information on what bullets do when shot into or through things is The Box O' Truth, theboxotruth.com/the-box-o-truth-1-the-original-box-o-truth . I've linked to the first one, there is a lengthy series. The author shoots a variety of ammunition at different barriers and reports on what they do.

@DavidK - "Oh you're going to a political rally on Tuesday when that controversial Workplace.SE moderator is in town, you didn't vote for him did you?". Any cover story is effectively a lie and may invite additional questions. Don't lie about what you're doing, don't make an excuse or a cover story. Instead just say "I have something I want to do that day". By disclosing nothing else and NOT lying or covering the requester avoids controversy and avoids lying to peers. My comment applies to answers given by sevensevens and codenoir as well.

@jasonwryan look at the link in the text, "see the election page put " that link doesn't work. Will it not work until there are nominees?

The election URL (elections.stackexchange.com/#unix.stackexchange) is 404ing for me. Does it work for everyone else?
