@jwh20 The 360 architecture is an instruction set architecture implemented over different micro-architectures. It has nothing to do with virtual machines.

I have used (a long time ago) the call mechanism to obtain the program counter, to emulate far relative jumps on a Z80. But it's probably more structured doing this with a call, followed by the offset, than to do the same inline.

By the way, C predates home computers by a reasonable margin, being originally developed between 1972 and 1973.

Seems that Burroughs was the first with ESPOL for the B5000 MCP. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burroughs_MCP. More experienced people here will probably be able to expound more on this.

Where is the time? I got rid of my last tower in 2013, I think. A 200 MHz Pentium Pro system with 256 MB of memory...
