I really admire your tolerance level! Some posts during the last few week were, umm, a bit extreme
Dan

You're doing great, @andrew.46!

This one for example, askubuntu.com/posts/1018804/revisions, will most likely never get an answer.

Is upvoting answers the only way to stop the community user from bumping old questions? Is there any other way?

Let’s highlight the new features and products we announced today from the stage of WeAreDevelopers.
Dan
Jul 27, 2023 13:43
This is a better link since it's not twitter and an official announcement
Dan
Jul 27, 2023 13:38
no that it's surprising lol
Dan
Jul 27, 2023 13:37
@andrew.46-OnStrike Well, they announced their AI publicly. twitter.com/DThompsonDev/status/1684533030809903106

@Levente I actually don't think it's a good idea to edit spam. Flagging it is better as the spam filters when re-enabled/if the strike ends, will learn what is spam from their content. I'm not sure they look into posts' history and learn from that.

@ArturMeinild Ask Ubuntu is the new Tinder πŸ˜‚
Dan
Jun 7, 2023 11:37
thanks!
Dan
Jun 7, 2023 11:37
@vidarlo aha I was not aware of this! I just read the previous messages here as well.
Dan
Jun 7, 2023 10:35
There seems to be a big influx of spam now, I don't think I've ever flagged so many for spam in such a short amount of time :O

> [...] Given these concerns, it seems reasonable to consider instituting a temporary ban on ChatGPT and similar AI technologies on Ask Ubuntu and other sites within the Stack Exchange network. This would allow the community to more fully assess the risks and benefits of using these technologies, and to determine the appropriate guidelines and policies for their use, if any. [...]

@AskUbuntuMeta For fun I copied the question verbatim in the chat with that bot and this was its answer: i.sstatic.net/PgGpo.png
Dan
Nov 28, 2022 12:31
But I just found this random fact interesting lol
Dan
Nov 28, 2022 12:31
Not that it changes anything, don't think I would ever use it
Dan
Nov 28, 2022 12:31
I've been using Ubuntu since 10.10 and never knew there was a "Logs" app until this moment hahah
Dan
Nov 28, 2022 12:31
Welcome to AskUbuntu. There will generally be some reasons for the crash written to the system log. This can be accessed via the GUI with the Logs application, or via Terminal in /var/log/syslog. If you could edit your question to include some of the relevant logs, it may be possible to help identify the issue. If you could also include some information about your computer (brand, specs, etc.) and whether this is a new installation of Ubuntu or one you've used for a while, it may offer context πŸ‘πŸ» — matigo 10 hours ago

@NotTheDr01ds Congrats!

Won't the system see it as voting fraud?
Dan
Oct 31, 2022 09:02
@BeastOfCaerbannog I always worry about voting like this. Won't this risk gettting the person who posted the answer banned?
Dan
Oct 27, 2022 08:48
"PS I have limited posting privileges here so do not ask to give more details."

That's a sure way to receive help lol

@ArturMeinild Maybe I'm being pedantic, but I think it's better to keep the tags' description more objective. The tag's description sounds like a sales pitch. πŸ˜…

and then you have docker as snap... I mean, what's up with that?
Dan
Oct 18, 2022 09:05
I totally understand that. For me, I have mixed feelings
Dan
Oct 18, 2022 07:48
not gonna lie, I don't completely hate snap. They did give me the opportunity to install packaged apps that I otherwise would have had to manage to upgrade myself.
Dan
Oct 18, 2022 07:25
it was crashing at least 2-3 times per day lol
Dan
Oct 18, 2022 07:25
@andrew.46 hahaha, it feels so much better. It's been a week now and Firefox hasn't crashed a single time yet.
Dan
Oct 17, 2022 12:32
I've finally switched to the deb version of Firefox, I've been procrastinating it for so long
Dan
Sep 16, 2022 12:32
yep, it's the default
Dan

not according to this article: https://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2022/08/first-ubuntu-22-04-point-release-delayed-until-august-11
It seems it's been delayed a week

Interesting, adblockers are removing the whole image, not just the tracking part of it. That's why I never noticed U&L was sponsored until now
Dan
Jul 21, 2022 09:20
Ad blockers FTW :D

For example, this would be useless promotion whether it's true or not
Q- How do I do X in UBuntu.
A- Install Ubuntu on AWS, and you can do X by running Z
Dan
Jul 21, 2022 08:54
As long as it doesn't mean we get irrelevant answers that promote AWS, I'm indifferent.
Dan
Jun 29, 2022 13:53

It got so quite here and on meta
Dan
Jun 29, 2022 13:33
Just breaking that diamond's streak there...
Dan
Jun 3, 2022 10:39
@Grasshopper yes, it is a possibility. For me, running apt update && apt upgrade was enough to solve the issue (connected the laptop with a wired connection to do that). You can try USB tethering as well from your phone if you can do that. But as Jouneyman Geek said, you will find a lot of these question on the site about this issue and how to solve it. It may differ from one driver to another.
Dan
Jun 3, 2022 08:31
@NotTheDr01ds Yep, I have this issue too. It's been for almost a week. I thought it was just me.
Dan
May 17, 2022 16:34
Chat here is not as active as it used to be (I blame SE's design!)
Dan
May 17, 2022 16:34
@Welz You can get better support if you ask a question about this. Just link to that answer in your question and mention what you tried in case you have a different issue.

@Natty I flagged this as spam, then retracted it. I'm unsure what needs to be done here, to be honest. But the link is spam; the content may be just "bot created" that mistook the question as "How to remove snap?" instead of "How to remove ~/snap?"

Is there anything that can be done about questions that keeps getting bumped by the community user but can't be fixed/answered anymore such as this one askubuntu.com/posts/394504/revisions ?
Dan
