@jokerdino haha I dont think it couldve gotten any worse - well that's a lie, but luckily there's always livecds around
Apr 15, 2012 02:46
@jokerdino I will refrain from panicking like that ever again
Apr 15, 2012 02:46
@jokerdino I understand that now. and thank you for your support. I apologize for my lack of understanding of the matter
Apr 15, 2012 02:45
I removed the last bit of the code
Apr 15, 2012 02:45
it was setup like this: /home/alex/alex/
Apr 15, 2012 02:44
fixed it
Apr 15, 2012 02:44
ok, nevermind
Apr 15, 2012 02:44
when it should just be going into /home/
Apr 15, 2012 02:43
and all the files are going there
Apr 15, 2012 02:43
but it still created /home/alex/
Apr 15, 2012 02:42
so no dupes
Apr 15, 2012 02:42
it created another folder inside my home
Apr 15, 2012 02:42
hold on
Apr 15, 2012 02:42
Oh
Apr 15, 2012 02:42
@jokerdino understood.
Apr 15, 2012 02:40
@jokerdino im listening
Apr 15, 2012 02:39
@jokerdino and reporting to launchpad takes forever sometimes
Apr 15, 2012 02:39
@jokerdino I wasnt meaning to be uncivil I was just upset that the thread closed before I got a decent answer was all
Apr 15, 2012 02:38
no kidding
Apr 15, 2012 02:38
hahah
Apr 15, 2012 02:37
do any of you mind if I log this conversation for further use in the future?
Apr 15, 2012 02:37
@jokerdino :)
Apr 15, 2012 02:37
@jokerdino for dealing with my impatience*
Apr 15, 2012 02:36
@jokerdino thank you as well for my impatience
Apr 15, 2012 02:36
no dope
Apr 15, 2012 02:36
@LuisAlvarado it worked
Apr 15, 2012 02:36
@LuisAlvarado you are a genuis
Apr 15, 2012 02:34
in which part of the command?
Apr 15, 2012 02:33
still creates the dupe
Apr 15, 2012 02:33
nope
Apr 15, 2012 02:32
I'm going to give it a test run
Apr 15, 2012 02:32
instead of /alex - by itsself
Apr 15, 2012 02:31
so maybe thats what I needed
Apr 15, 2012 02:31
@LuisAlvarado I just added the alex/ because you mentioned it would do a recursive copy of whats in the directory
Apr 15, 2012 02:30
correct
Apr 15, 2012 02:30
@LuisAlvarado so then maybe I should go deeper - and copy say rsync --progress -r /media/ALEXPOULOS/backup/alex/ ~ /home/alex
Apr 15, 2012 02:28
@LuisAlvarado is it because I have it set to -r?
Apr 15, 2012 02:27
which wasn't good
Apr 15, 2012 02:27
which being my home contains massive multimedia - a dupe of the exact folder practically threw my drive into a 1.5GB free space
Apr 15, 2012 02:26
exactly
Apr 15, 2012 02:26
@LuisAlvarado yes
Apr 15, 2012 02:26
it not only restores to the Home folder, but creates another Alex folder and contains all the same files
Apr 15, 2012 02:25
but when I run: rsync --progress -r /media/ALEXPOULOS/backup/alex ~ /home/alex
Apr 15, 2012 02:24
so all I have is my personal files
Apr 15, 2012 02:24
I ran rsync to exclude any of the /.* folders
Apr 15, 2012 02:24
@jokerdino i just need help getting my old home dir to my new home fir
Apr 15, 2012 02:23
@jokerdino no no, your solution worked fine
Apr 15, 2012 02:22
@LuisAlvarado no no - i moved my every file from my old Home folder over to my external drive so I could make a new user and set as admin - that way it would get rid of the errors with metacity
Apr 15, 2012 02:21
so how do I make sure its not going to create this dupe directory and fill up my hard drive space again
Apr 15, 2012 02:20
@LuisAlvarado and the output was this: rsync: recv_generator: mkdir "/home/Music" failed: Permission denied (13)
*** Skipping any contents from this failed directory ***
