In fact, there is a way to develop software the correct way: mathematics. We just don't understand it completely yet. That's in my understanding a very big difference to "there's no correct way". OP's problem is coworkers that lack understanding of proper abstractions. Software development becomes easier, faster, and cheaper with abstraction as you can concentrate on the problem itself without worrying about anything else.
