What is the range? Can they manipulate objects 1 meter away? 10 meters? 1 kilometer? The other side of the planet? Can they manipulate objects they can't see? Also, what do you mean by impure objects? They can much better manipulate pure elements than anything else? That is, copper and iron can be easily manipulated, but bronze and steel are harder? If so, a wooden crate may be sufficient.

@Abbas It's not given that Aaron brought her the pills (nor the water). Just that he, at some time in the (presumably recent, but not given) past collected her prescription. Candice doesn't strike me as a person who lets her medication complete run out before renewing the prescription. As for the time/strength to open the door -- she did have the time and strength to carefully remove parts of the cover of a book.
Aug 16, 2019 18:32
@Abbas Yeah, I'm willing to believe that Candice thinks Aaron murdered her. But that's not the same as that he did it.
Aug 16, 2019 18:32
How could Candice know it was Aaron? Sure, he picked up the prescription, but how would Candice know Bethany did not slip in a laced pill? Also, how does Candice even know she was poisoned by a pill? And if she had the strength of ripping up a book cover, why not unbolt the door?

It doesn't take 12h20m to fly from London to Florida; 0:20 to 12:20 isn't 12h20m; it's 17h00m (even if for some reason, the arrival time would be given in the time zone of the departing airport, it's still not 12h20m)

Aug 7, 2019 15:36
@Rose You think talking to CEO (who is effective the person you are reporting to) is escalating too much, but you're ok with getting yourself fired?
Aug 7, 2019 15:36
Did you discuss this with your manager? If not, why not? If you did, what did she/he say? Or are you looking for a solution which bypasses your manager?

Jun 12, 2019 05:42
Well, at least you have an excuse if your boss catches you on Facebook during work hours.... ;-)

Jun 11, 2019 23:55
@DavidRicherby But would a CBP officer admit someone with an until date which is before the return flight, and then not say anything? That would be really evil.

"While a company cant own your education per se, it can write an employment contract that says it owns the work that you do while you are employed by them." Only in a few countries -- typically those countries where "employee rights" is a dirty word.

Apr 10, 2019 09:23
@GlenPierce It was a future colleague the OP looked up. And I doubt he waited years after that person become his coworker before telling about it.
Apr 10, 2019 09:23
@SaggingRufus I will be unpleasantly surprised if someone I don't know, or barely know, tells me he checked me out on LinkedIn. It's not the checking of the profile that is strange -- that is indeed what LinkedIn is for. It's the telling that you did. It will make me wonder what the other persons motives are, and I'd struggle to come up with any benign reason.

Apr 8, 2019 08:25
For startups, never count on anything "long term" or "future benefits". The people offering you that may be willing to follow on such deals, fact is, most start ups will fail. Get them to pay the amount you're willing to work for, and don't count on the possibility of any future work from them. They're likely not be there in the future.

His employment agreement states that any and all intellectual property he generates while employed with us, even during weekends/free-time, is the property of the company. Picking fruits of unpaid labour, that's slavery. You company deserves all the pain it gets, and some more.

@FezVrasta Where I have been? For the past 12 years I've been working for the one of largest hotel booking sites. My team and I are in charge of the code which determines under which conditions you can book. When I say that many European hotels require credit cards, I base that on policies of hundreds of thousands of hotels. I have not claimed all hotels require that; that you have stayed in a hotel which didn't require a credit card doesn't invalidate my claim.
Mar 11, 2019 21:00
@FezVrasta While there certainly are hotels where you can make reservations without credit cards in Europe, there are also many who do require a credit card. And there are hotels which require a deposit (of either the full amount, or part of it) up front - be it done by credit card, debit card or other means.

On what timescale do you want to defrost Greenland? Weeks? Months? Years? Centuries? (If the latter, global warming will do).

Feb 22, 2019 03:01
@Tim Absolutely not. In case of a labour conflict, never, ever resign. Resigning gives up lots of rights (in many cases, unemployment benefits) and means the employer doesn't have to pay any severance. Have them fire you.

Feb 13, 2019 20:53
Also, can you tag where you are located?
Feb 13, 2019 20:53
Did you talk to your CEO? Did you talk to your manager? What did they say when you presented this to them? HR seems the wrong place to talk -- they're just executing the CEO's orders.

What are the needs of the people you write this for? How much time do they have to read the stuff? Could it be they need an executive summary?

It's a solved problem, isn't it? You have Russian dolls. Plural. So evolution has already managed to grow from a population of one to a population of more than one.

Jan 21, 2019 07:19
Was this an intentional posting of code? Or was he posting about something else, and this just happened to be in the shot? Was this a serious fragment coding some business logic which is regarded a trade secret, or some simple code? I wouldn't bother bringing it up with a manager if it's some code copying from Stackexchange doing a trivial thing. But I would if the code could reveal valuable information.

What's the budget? I'd probably end up with a very different vehicle if I can spend a few million on it, than I would if my budget was limited to three digits.
Jan 17, 2019 05:52
@chaslyfromUK Why would you have to find a parking space? There are no rules, so you can park your tank where ever you like.

Jan 10, 2019 15:41
"like how Earth was when humans were still evolving" When humans where still evolving, Earth had a rich and diverse food chain humans were part of. That won't be there on a new planet; bringing enough bio-diversity would something I'd worry about. Banking? Not something in my top 100 things to worry about when starting fresh on a new planet; bring one person with a minor degree in economics and you have all the knowledge to kick start a banking system.

The curvature of the shield (less is better - which implies smaller) No, it doesn't. The less curvature a shield has, the larger its radius is (it "turns" less sharp). And the larger the radius, the larger the shield will be.

Dec 30, 2018 04:26
@kevin And many companies know this. Smart companies who hire a lot of people track where their candidates come from, and give lower priority to candidates who come from a recruiting agency which send a lot of fodder their way.

Dec 29, 2018 06:13
"Simply pay them for a one or two week freelance contract." A large fraction of the candidates we're interviewing are from outside the EU (and we're located inside the EU). They, rightfully, won't start the visa process until they have an offer letter.

@PeterM That may be a 30 second conversation, but I have co-workers whose desk is a 20 minute walk away. (That is, if the shuffle-of-the-week hasn't moved them to a different part of the building). You'd really think I walk 20 minutes through the rain, hoping said coworker is at his/her desk? Instant messenger is much faster, and also works if said coworker isn't at their desk when I get there.
Dec 4, 2018 05:19
@PeterM "The goal is to find the balance that is best for the company." Exactly. Which isn't "being available for interruptions 100% of the time". If they come in 2 hours later, you may have to wait a few hours, not a week. And only for morning questions.
Dec 4, 2018 05:19
@PeterM "There is a lot t be said for being able to walk over to someones desk and talk about an issue" That's exactly why some people don't want to be at their desk. There's a limit on the amount of times you can interrupt someone before it becomes detrimental to the company.

@BradleyDotNET Are you also saying that "I don't have stamp collecting as a hobby" is the same as "My hobby is not stamp collecting"?

If you can get up to speed with a 10 second glance at Google or Wikipedia, why bother going to class in the first place? Just spend a few minutes on your phone instead.

Aug 23, 2018 18:26
So, if I have a planet which moves in a certain direction, trains on that planet must move in the same direction as well? And so will someone walking in that train? "Objects can basically only move at a certain constant speed, and only in one of eight special directions," seems to imply motion isn't relative in your universe (that is, there's just one frame of reference).

I expect most people to be dead within a few weeks. Those who are not, will be too busy with surviving to not have time to track around the globe searching for another survivor.

@Sourav If the airline sends you a PDF to be printed out, and you keep that PDF in your phone, the format of the QR doesn't suddenly change.

I'm looking at the charge cable for my recently purchased iPhone (bought from an official Apple store). Neither the cable, nor the connectors carry an Apple logo. And neither does any other cable I have for my other Apple products.

Oh, if you'd ask me FizzBuzz, I will take 20 minutes. Or more. If I get to the interview, and you still need to ask me FizzBuzz because you still don't know whether I can even program, you haven't done your homework. And I will take my time and create some monstrous program. (I've probably by then concluded I don't want to work for you)

On every flight I have made to the USA after 9-11, everyone on the flight got asked a set of questions. "Do you own everything in the your baggage" and "Did anyone give you anything to bring with you" are two of those questions. Since you're next flight is from Canada to the USA, that should be a showstopper.

Finding an explanation as why there would be external controls is one thing. But if it's going to be a plot device you better come with a very good reason why commands from external controls cannot be overridden by an AI. It's not like space ship controls are purely mechanical.

Given the option, I'd prefer to go to a hairdresser/restaurant/something else which charges me higher prices while not expecting tips, than a lower price plus tip. Within reason of course. I'd pick a $70 + no-tip hairdresser over a $50 + $15tip hairdresser, but not a $100 + no-tip hairdresser.

@TorKlingberg Not every country stamps passports upon entry.

That's a curious reaction from the recruiter, after all, according to your story, the recruiter contacted you -- so (s)he has a position (s)he likes to be filled. And while 19.00 is usually considered to be outside of "office hours", it shouldn't be uncommon for recruiters to encounter people who don't want to (or cannot) take calls to recruiter during office hours. IMO, your request was not of line. I would consider not doing business with this recruiter -- the market they operate is is very competitive; find one who's willing to work with a prospect.

What makes you think that fat has to be stored in humps? Humans have fat, but they don't have humps on the backs. Whales, seals and the like have lots of fat but don't have humps.
