This is basically the idea behind how the kids were falling for hours into that seemingly endless volcano in Spy Kids 2.

@FrozenKiwi That person is obviously talking about The Debates, y'know, Trump vs Biden, not an online debate with SO users or redditors.

"Suppose 10-character password uses 64 different characters" is confusing -- a 10-character password uses anywhere between 1-10 different characters. I think what you meant to say was "Suppose you build a password by choosing 10 random characters from a pool of 64 different characters." And for the math you included, that selection would have to be with replacement so that repeat characters are allowed in the generated password.

With regards to the signing bonus, most companies include a repayment agreement clause that goes something like "This payment shall not be considered earned until you have completed x months of active employment with the company. If your employment is terminated for cause or voluntarily within that time, you will repay the bonus." So if you start the job and quickly discover you're not capable, you likely won't keep the bonus. Just something to be aware of if it's the thought of the signing bonus windfall that's most tempting about accepting.

@AntP I think it sounds more like "It'll take us 1-2 months to declare bankruptcy, so let's give them a time frame where we won't have to pay."

I block those kinds of emails, as well as calls and messages. Sending that to me from your work address would result in you never being able to contact me about anything work related again.

@user2357112 One one account, I thought that I had disabled SMS for 2FA, until one day my phone got crushed and the authentication substitute app I relied on was unavailable. After entering my password from the computer and selecting the "I don't have access to the authenticator" option, to my great surprise it offered up the last 4 digits of my phone number and said not to worry, I could deactivate my authenticator by text message. The whole time, my account was no more secure than text message 2nd factor authentication, even though I supposedly manually deactivated it.

@Alkedr "and use people as raw materials for producing stamps" I can't stop laughing, does that make me a bad person?

@Forest The Hollywood-esque AI's wouldn't be that hard to make. It shouldn't take long to dumb-down a computer to human levels.

I'd just like to highlight why this is such a good example; the monopoly money is not even an attempt at forging legal tender, the exchange is more of a barter of some monopoly paper for the store item. Sure, the store clerk shouldn't have accepted it, as they are only supposed to accept legal tender, but the store clerk has no recourse to hold the customer responsible for a bill unpaid because they accepted the exchange. Just as the customer didn't present forged money, the degree isn't forged, it's just not what the company normally accepts, but they did by accident this time.
