@NickGammon - There were 3 VTC, and now there is one more, so it's 4 so far. The question's had no improvement made in 6 days. Lets see how many years it lingers until it's closed.
Jul 14, 2024 17:18
@NickGammon - Last question. Why did you re-open a question that you knew was too broad and was closed by the community?
Jul 14, 2024 17:18
@NickGammon - The video made several points. What was crystal clear, is it the bias against SE. They mentioned several other SE "milestones", like the "Monica" issue. The video also claimed the introduction to AI was the start for the drop in user engagement. Do you thing resurrecting legitimately closed questions will help? How about answering off topic, too broad, poorly written questions like this one with a "book report" answer? Are you afraid that SE might area51 the ard.se site again? Don't worry. SE will do anything they want with the data, and if you don't like it, tough luck.
Jul 14, 2024 17:18
@NickGammon - I've finished watching the video. There are many complaints about SO, but the latest one deals with AI. Some users are afraid they won't get fake internet points for their answers AI uses. Some users feel like SO "used them" for knowledge and to make money. Businesses are in business to make money, other wise they cease to exist. When you get a product for free, you ARE the product.
Jul 14, 2024 17:18
@NickGammon - RE: your comment in the question: " I've reopened it, and I'll upvote your answer to partly compensate for you-know-who". That sounds like "sympathy voting", and as a moderator you should know it's wrong. Shame on you.
Jul 14, 2024 17:18
@NickGammon - The question was closed by 3 users. You reopened it. Why? It surely needs details when you look at the second paragraph: "I want to have about 20 different LEDs maybe more". "About" and "Maybe"? I watched 8 minutes of the 22 minute youtube video you linked to. The presenter is complaining about all the things they don't like about SO. My advise to them, is to go somewhere else if they don't like it. There is a great place to ask broad questions with no clear direction or specifications: forum.arduino.cc

What's really impressive, is that I am correct. SE knows what to do with garbage Q+As. arduino.stackexchange.com/questions/96377/… and arduino.stackexchange.com/questions/96398/… The -2 rep will be returned to you, and the +10 rep your received will be deducted from you.

What is the voltage of the input signal to the Arduino? Is it 15 VDC?

General discussion about arduino.stackexchange.com

@Juraj - We have more than enough users who want to answer questions. We need users with enough rep. to do work, like editing, voting to close, etc.
Sep 4, 2022 16:55
We have an ongoing issue (arduino.meta.stackexchange.com/questions/2681/…) getting questions closed because we don't have enough users with high enough rep. I would think encouraging new users to participate is a good thing.
Sep 4, 2022 16:53
FWIW, this user (arduino.stackexchange.com/users/27346/glorfindel) has not asked or answered a question on Arduino SE, yet they have 557 rep. All of their rep has come from edits, most of them a simple tag edit. I don't care about fake internet points either, but I do know that once this user gets to 1000 rep, they no longer get the 2 rep for the edit.

@Tommy - There is a tool available when you ask a new question. You could draw a wiring diagram with it, or use a free on-line tool then add the image to your question.
Apr 2, 2020 16:28
@Tommy - Ask a new question. Include the sketch you're using along with a description of the problem. Also include a wiring diagram of how the motors are connected to the Arduino. Perhaps the problem is not related to the Arduino. Maybe it's how you are powering the motors.
Apr 2, 2020 14:06
@Tommy - If the sketch compiles but won't upload to the board, that is a new question.
Apr 2, 2020 01:11
Correct. Just add those 3 lines of code to the top of a blank sketch with empty loop and setup functions. Then try to compile it. Does it compile without errors? Let me know how that works out.
Apr 2, 2020 00:01
When you try to compile it, there will be error messages. Please add those error messages to this chat...
Apr 1, 2020 23:59
I would recommend that you start with a new sketch, then add the following 3 lines of code to it:#include <AFMotor.h>

AF_DCMotor motor(1, MOTOR12_8KHZ);
AF_DCMotor motor(2, MOTOR12_8KHZ);
Apr 1, 2020 23:47
@Tommy - Have look at this answer: arduino.stackexchange.com/a/3332/37523 then check your code very carefully.
Apr 1, 2020 23:47
What happens if you try to compile the first 3 lines of code in a sketch with empty setup and loop functions?

@Majenko - This was the first time I just clicked the REDACTED to delete comments and send them to chat. Up until today, I would always look at the post first. Sorry about that.

All I can tell you for sure is the shield works great once it's working. This is one of the libraries that worked for me: github.com/muanis/arduino-projects/tree/master/libraries/…. Try this sketch: github.com/muanis/arduino-projects/blob/master/libraries/…
Aug 24, 2019 16:38
A few more things to try. 1. Use "hard coded" MAC and IP address (Not DHCP) in the sketch and setup your router to do the same. 2. Try a different library. Here is one: github.com/njh/EtherCard, and at the bottom of the page there are links to 4 more. I have the same "shield" and ran into the same issues you are facing. I think I installed all 5 libraries, and two worked with one being half the compile size.

How much current can your 3.3V supply to the ENC28J60 Ethernet Shield? The data sheet says it uses 120mA when it's "Active, not transmitting Ethernet packets". Up to 180mA is required when it's "Transmitting Ethernet packets".

You are probably getting down votes because your question is off-topic. Please read this: arduino.stackexchange.com/help/on-topic.
Aug 10, 2019 19:32
I see you have very recently deleted this same question and have asked it again. We are now missing all of the comments that were attached to the first question. Your question is about batteries, not Arduino, so it is off topic for Arduino SE.

Jun 22, 2019 17:47
The last 4 comments under the question have nothing to do with clarifying the question, so they will be deleted. The last 2 of those comments are exact duplicates.
Jun 22, 2019 17:35
The reason we marked the question as duplicate is because there is a similar question / answers already in the system arduino.stackexchange.com/questions/51873/…. After reviewing the time stamps, it looks like the following "things" happened in this order: 1. Question asked. 2. Question answered. 3. Question marked as duplicate. Marking it as duplicate was not a personal attack, nor is it an accusation of plagiarism.

Both @Juraj and @Michel Keijzers have earned the required reputation to perform certain moderator tasks. It is not bossing, it is moderation.
Jun 22, 2019 17:19
Regarding this comment "Your ORIGINAL comment, which YOU DELETED, said to user Harry Karwasa that this was NOT a duplicate originally.". I've reviewed all of the deleted comments and can tell you @tonygil that @Juraj did NOT say that to Harry Karwasa.
Jun 22, 2019 17:13
I've moved the comments to chat because they have nothing to do with clarifying the answer or the question.

It's a shame that more of the Arduino community did not participate as "nominees". During the nomination phase, I though about "poking" a dozen people with a metaphorical "stick" to try and convince them to run, but that would have been rude.

Thank you @Ghanima for stepping up and volunteering to be an Arduino.SE moderator. I've seen the work you have done on RaspberryPi.SE, and it's very impressive.

And I suggest you read your own comment "If the wind is in the dead zone.." and compare it to the requirement, "The roof should be open only when there is no rain and the wind speed below 2 km/h". There is no hysteresis, dead zone in the requirement. It's a yes or no answer, not a well, if it's between x and y do nothing answer. The roof is either open or closed. Now I sense by your last comment that you are getting upset with me and I already know you are one of those guys that just has to get the last word in. So, this is my last comment. Go ahead and reply to your hearts content.
Aug 24, 2017 23:26
What if the limit switches fail and don't interupt power to the motor?
Aug 24, 2017 23:26
Part 2. The bottom line is, the wind must be below 2 km/h or the roof MUST close. Yes, wind speeds are variable. If the wind speeds are constantly moving above and below the 2 km/h "trigger point", then additional code should be written to deal with this.
Aug 24, 2017 23:26
No. The requirement clearly states: "The roof should be open only when there is no rain (analog value above 900) and the wind speed below 2 km/h". 2 or 3 or 4 km/h is too fast of a wind speed for the roof to be open. It should be closed. And, we don't have all the code, so we don't know what motor_closed() and motor_open() do. What if motor_open() commands a relay to send power to a motor then the next line of code is delay(10000), because it takes 10 second to close the roof? This would limit the opening and closing of the roof to once every 10 seconds. End part 1.
Aug 24, 2017 23:26
You didn't answer my question. If the wind is 3 km/h, should the roof be open or closed? Please consider rofimu's requirement "The roof should be open only when there is no rain (analog value above 900) and the wind speed below 2 km/h." before you answer.
Aug 24, 2017 23:26
I've asked rofimu for clarification about his question. The first and last paragraphs contradict themselves. Hint: What if the wind is 3 km/h. Should the roof be open or closed (based on his written question, not the code he povided)?
Aug 24, 2017 23:26
We are only looking at a piece of the entire sketch. Based on just the code provided, the extra else if's are not needed. I am assuming he has added some type of delay that only runs this code every 30 seconds or perhaps every minute. Do you think this code is in the loop() with no form of delay? I hope not. The problem here is I've only been a member of this forum for a week and I'm eager to help as many people as I can. The mistake I made was answering a question without seeing the entire sketch. I won't make that mistake again.
