@ohwilleke Re objecting to a pay raise: It might land the employee in a higher tax bracket so bottom line they have less money. (I don't know if this applies to the US / New Jersey.)

@PCLuddite Yes, I usually write them as exponents for that reason unless I know the compiler isn't smart enough to compile it to a bit shift.

@PCLuddite I've needed exponents more frequently, but almost all of them could be written as a bit shift operation. 🤓

@JimmyB That baby analogy is a bad one. The number of women doesn't have any effect on the time needed. The number of programmers on the other hand does or at least should have an effect. Two organised and communicating developers may finish in almost half the time. Adding a second woman to a pregnancy does exactly nothing. Apples and oranges.

There are also some groups in Germany that identify with a similar pattern. For instance russian immigrants with german roots as „Russlanddeutsche“ or people from Turkey as „Deutschtürken“.

@HLGEM Even if he's not a ”snake”, this could explain why the client has a working copy/product → it's most probably a fork of the code the OP knows.

@Richard Up to a certain point the OP was confused until he realised he was ”hired by mistake” — if that's even the case at all and not just a misremembering of resumes by the manager. For some ”errors” there also may be another explanation, like the mentioning of experience with some specific technology he used. The OP seems to actually have experience with the technology, and even Jim having more experience, doesn't mean the OP would not be good for a project which uses said technology.

@inappropriateCode The wave of discontent is a fact. What do you think is the motivation? Never heard calls for ways to pay more money, just ones for not cutting funds. Just a biased opinion or an edudcated guess? :-)

@JAB Just that the taxes they pay are not enough and they don't want to pay the full price.
