The pattern is consistent across all MSN apps. In News, the article content is scrolled vertically, too. I missed the news, this was discovered a couple of weeks ago in a leaked build.
May 6, 2015 14:54
@JohnGB Don't know. I haven't heard anything. The style guide talks about multi-column layout only for text.
May 5, 2015 17:36
I think this is huge news: Microsoft is moving away from horizontal scrolling in Universal Windows Platform. If you're testing Windows 10, make sure Weather app is updated and check it out
Apr 16, 2015 08:11
@JonW That's some awesome stuff. It's such a welcome refresh.
Feb 26, 2015 17:19
@JohnGB I think the home button reinforces the inconvenience and redundancy of steps needed to accomplish the task
Feb 26, 2015 16:09
And the research.
Feb 26, 2015 16:08
Yeah. I thought the same, but that doesn't mean we can't appreciate the UX.
Feb 26, 2015 16:01
That's one fantastic story map that shows what's wrong with using mobiles today.

@Mayo They publish once a week. I subscribe to Alertbox, but I think I should just switch to RSS to reduce e-mail
Feb 23, 2015 19:23
@srph I really don't understand what you're asking. What are you trying to build?
Feb 23, 2015 17:31
NN blog is funny this week
Feb 23, 2015 17:21
@srph If you're designing a desktop-use site, then there're no guidelines other than the standard usability and accessibility best practices. If you're designing for mobile and are trying to pass off as native, then the platform guidelines apply
Feb 23, 2015 15:08
@srph That would be a part of every platform's design guide. All interaction patterns are described quite meticulously for Android, iOS, and Windows
Feb 23, 2015 04:55
@srph What do you mean?
Feb 20, 2015 17:20
It was more regarding how much time it takes to configure all the applications.
Feb 20, 2015 17:16
I went to a talk last night about security and UX. The speaker (a designer) argued that there should be some barrier to entry in secure communications apps because users will have a false sense of security if everything is smooth and automated.
Feb 20, 2015 17:15
Oh, y'all will enjoy this story
Feb 20, 2015 17:15
@nightning Foundation has 2 humongous advantages: 1) it's responsiveness is based on REMs (typography remains proportionate regardless of screen size & pixel density), 2) Interchange loads only small images on mobile devices; if you use just media queries, browsers will load all images resulting in more traffic and longer loading times
Feb 20, 2015 17:05
I discovered ZURB Foundation last night. Who cares about Bootstrap and their px font sizes?
Feb 19, 2015 16:36
@Wander I think ergonomics can also relate to mental models. But job descriptions are often written by clueless people.
Feb 19, 2015 00:53
Darn it! I just flagged a perfectly fine question.

Q: What are the resources for list of error messages in case of failed transaction on eCommerce website?

Guru MunishwarBeing the only UX guy in my company, my management wants me to write error messages for their customers. Dev team is really very very bad when it comes to writing and they will just say UserNameInvalid and PasswordNotValid and stuff like that. Now i have taken up this assignment of repairing all...

Feb 17, 2015 23:49
I don't think that there's 1 way to rotate text for vertical display regardless of the situation. In that particular situation, the only implication would be for animation of rotation but no more than that
Feb 17, 2015 23:44
Agree to disagree?
Feb 17, 2015 23:39
@JohnGB Since you deleted the comment, I'll expand here. The earlier question has shown that there's no 1 correct way to do vertical text. The study you cited doesn't seem to deal with comprehension of rotated text but more with visual perception of mentally rotated letters.

Freezing rain is the most disgusting form of precipitation. Mother Nature needs to fix its UX.
Feb 17, 2015 19:03
We just had the first major snowstorm of the season last night
Feb 17, 2015 19:03
Ugh. I go to play in the snow for 2 hours, only to come back and see that all the soft-ball questions questions have been answered

This guy isn't happy that we voted as duplicate.

Q: Icons that represent same languages / different countries?

DevinWe're re-building this app for a client and he already has several language choices, including: English (US), English (UK) and English (AU) as well as Spanish (Spain), Spanish (Latin America). Of course we're going to narrow it to English and Spanish, but wondering if there's some easily recogniz...

And a lot of it is repetitive
Feb 17, 2015 14:01
I don't take everything he says
Feb 17, 2015 13:59
@JohnGB Not a fan, but I do try to read him regularly. He has some good advice occasionally.
Feb 16, 2015 17:34
@BenBrocka Too vague and more appropriate for Programmers.SE, IMO

Q: What are some good UX resources on mobile web app design? principles, guidelines, trends etc

ShiraI'm designing a web app for both iPhone and Android, and looking for good resources to learn about creating a consistent UX for both platforms.

Q: Image gallery site to use links to each image page, or load them via ajax

rosewaterI have this site where you have thumbnails in left and right columns. Clicking on a thumbnail will load the main image in the center. There are two ways I can do this: Use ajax to load the main image in the center Make thumbnails into anchor tags, clicking it will basically load a new page wit...

Snark is allowed only toward doctors, teachers, and government officials. Advice from family members must be taken seriously unless everyone agrees that it's coming from a crazy uncle.
Feb 13, 2015 18:12
@JohnGB Just make a concerned agreeable face, nod quietly, and do your own thing when she's not watching.
Feb 13, 2015 17:55
All culture is acquired behavioral patterns. Kinda like UX :)
Feb 13, 2015 17:54
@CharlesWesley Or not teach them things...
Feb 13, 2015 17:53
@CharlesWesley Baby talk must be universal. :)
Feb 13, 2015 17:51
@CharlesWesley How old are the kids? We're adults with full command of the language and Serbian is just so marginally comprehensible.
