@YannisRizos Thanks. Two gold badges in one day was pretty nice. And all that flagging was a lot of fun, too. Hopefully it has also made the site a little better for everyone.
Feb 12, 2012 18:57
@MarkTrapp I see your point. I'll see if there are related tags and submit the whole thing as an STCI proposal.
Feb 12, 2012 18:44
@YannisRizos Oops. My bad
Feb 12, 2012 18:41
And since Jeff Atwood has left the company, doesn't that also mean you are no longer bound by his fiat ;-)
Feb 12, 2012 18:41
If you asked me, pretty much every question tagged health should be closed, which is why I considered flagging them.
Feb 12, 2012 18:40
@MarkTrapp OK, my concern was, that one would be hard-pressed to find a health-issue that was unique to programmers and thus on-topic. I have no problem with the name of the tag per-se. I just doubt the need for its very existance.
Feb 12, 2012 18:29
@Rachel Structured Tag Cleanup Initiative I guess
Feb 12, 2012 18:20
@MarkTrapp Ah, thanks.
Feb 12, 2012 18:19
@Rachel I am looking through some Meta questions right now. There are a few details mentioned here and here
Feb 12, 2012 17:54
@YannisRizos Nice. What are the criteria for choosing what goes up on Twitter? I noticed a question I asked the other day was tweeted, too.
Feb 12, 2012 13:40
@YannisRizos Thanks :)
Feb 12, 2012 13:32
@YannisRizos Don't mention it. I have actually become a bit more daring in my editing, after observing how you guys do it. Like this one post today I originally just wanted to flag because it was kind of difficult to parse because of the way the OP had phrased it, but instead I chose to edit and rewrite some of it, hopefully making it useful for others.
Feb 12, 2012 13:27
@YannisRizos Wilco
Feb 12, 2012 13:04
Should I maybe edit the health tag's wiki page to inform people not to post such questions (similar to the book tag). I could use the Tag Editor badge.
Feb 12, 2012 13:01
I saw the Structured Tag Cleanup Initiatve, however, I don't think there is a strong enough case that the tag itself had to go.
Feb 12, 2012 13:00
There are a bunch of questions tagged health that all seem to adress issues that aren't unique to programmers, but could apply equally well to every other person working on a computer all day. Should I continue flagging them individually or is there a better way to deal with this?

Q: What is so bad about Singletons?

Ewan MakepeaceThe Singleton pattern is a fully paid up member of the GoF Patterns Book but lately seems rather orphaned by the developer world. I still use quite a lot of singletons, especially for Factory classes, and while you have to be a bit careful about multithreading issues (like any class actually), I ...

@YannisRizos I actually thought our comment was quite helpful. Of course "How do I get started with X" is too broad for Programmers, but as we both said, coming here with questions on specific issues after some initial research elsewhere should be fine. Should it not?
Feb 8, 2012 21:06
@YannisRizos Yep, that was me :)
Jan 30, 2012 20:08
@YannisRizos I had already made my mind up a while ago, following people's activities on the site, Meta and chat, my first vote was an easy choice. Also, I hope it will be considerably harder for you to get more helpful flags than me once you are a moderator ;-)
Jan 30, 2012 20:03
Already cast my vote
Jan 27, 2012 14:22
@CRoss Exactly. Too bad many people don't seem to use search but just ask anew.
Jan 27, 2012 13:39
@user962206 Have you tried to search for this?
Jan 25, 2012 05:52
I noticed a couple of people lately using for their question a title like: "Technology: My Actual question" where technology is the topic or technology they are asking about. I would normally put this in a tag. Should I continue to edit these questions to remove the tag from the title?
Jan 22, 2012 17:25
I had even thought of compiling a little tutorial "How to be a good flagger and earn a Marshal badge in the process", but a lot of the ideas for this are no longer relevant now that an occasional bad flags no longer results in a massive flag-weight loss.
Jan 22, 2012 17:19
Thanks for the 3K warning. I think you had mentioned it earlier, so I actually have plans in place to keep that from happening.
Jan 22, 2012 17:06
@YannisRizos I am currently 9 edits away from Strunk & White. At my current rate of editing that's just a couple of days. The badge I really want to have though is Marshal. Nobody has it (yet) and after the recent change it requires "only" 500 helpful flags, which I think I can pull off. Maybe in time to be the first one to get it

Q: Is Usage Tracking esoteric or state of the art?

andreasThere are several products for tracking the usage of your application. I know at least 10 offers. They tell you which features were used more often than others. Thus you can identify features that may not make into new versions. While with Google Analytics or similiar stuff this a standard tool ...

Jan 22, 2012 14:27
BTW: Question #16,000
Jan 22, 2012 14:27
@YannisRizos Don't mention it. I usually keep a browser window open showing the newest questions. When I have time and see one with with grammar or formatting issues. I just fix it. Plus, I really want that Strunk & White badge :)
Jan 20, 2012 05:51
No more flag weight. And this at a time when I was so close to passing @ZaphodBeeblebrox

Q: What happened to flag weight?

PersonalNexusI just noticed that my profile on Programmers no longer shows my flag weight. Instead I see the number of helpful flags. At the same time, the definition for the Marshal badge has been changed to "500 helpful flags". Does that mean there is no more flag weight? All that counts now is the number ...

Jan 11, 2012 19:34
It originally read like OP quoting from an interviewer, hence the block quote, but I see your point. Thanks.
Jan 11, 2012 19:27
I am confused. Why was this edit of mine rejected as "incorrect or an attempt to reply to or comment on the existing post"?
Dec 27, 2011 17:57
@YannisRizos Thanks for sharing the Data Explorer queries. Good work. I'm not sure, though, how much value I would add going over old questions. I think I am doing more good "policing" the home page and flagging questions as they come in. Thankfully(?) I am still far way from the 3k rep limit, so I cherish the illusion that I actually have a shot at the Marshal badge (which I just noticed nobody has earned yet).
Dec 27, 2011 15:32
@Yannis: I was just gonna say the same thing. Never before have I flagged so many posts in such a short period of time. On the plus side: it does bring me closer to the Marshal badge
