So is 25% of humanity's infantry wearing powered armor and battlesuits a good realistic number? I'm mainly having special forces and certain units having access to these armors.
Jul 8, 2020 14:49
I really wished that gas giant moons wouldn't become tidal locked so quickly. :(
Jul 6, 2020 19:02
Several alien empires in my setting power their battlesuits with energy crystals that give power on the level of cold fusion but they do need to be recharged from time to time.

I wanted to create logistical issues with my battles.

Thank you! I did read the book, but that was years ago, so I probably need to read it again.

Would a high density cryogenic refrigerator battery be powerful enough to power a battlesuit/powered armor?

In my setting, humanity has figured out that a high density cryogenic refrigerator battery would be the answer to the power supply problems for fielding powered armors. However, I want to make sure I got the science down right. I know that most powered armors in fiction are powered by micronized nuclear fusion reactors, but I wanted to avoid that for several reasons:

1) Where would you put it in the first place?
Jul 5, 2020 23:38
Need to figure out a non-tidal locked habitable moon orbiting a ringed gas giant in a trinary star system (a brown dwarf, a red dwarf, and a G-class star).
Jul 4, 2020 22:00
I'm not sure how one would use Mercury as a penal colony, much less get a base on the planet!
Jul 4, 2020 21:53
The colonies didn't like being limited in their growth by Earth, and rebelled after several tragic events that was caused by miscommunication, Earth trying to give limited autonomy to the colonies but still controlling them through Green laws, and mixed feelings about the idea of Earth expanding to star systems beyond the Sol System.

Third World War.
Jul 4, 2020 21:51
The problem is that Earth's colonialism and imperialism weren't conducted out of malice, but were to help the colonies: they wanted to preserved the planets' natural environments, although requiring a lot of resources from said planets to help rebuild Earth after the Day the Sky Fell (several ancient precursor alien ships crashlanded), 2nd American Civil War (it actually involved numerous factions fighting each other; the American Restoration Alliance won from its base in Columbia, SC), and the

The Interplanetary War involves after Mars has forced the other Solar System colonies to unite with it against Earth colonialism and imperialism. However, the war soon takes a turn when the Martian Revolutionary Liberation Front changes into the Unified Martian Regime who desire the total destruction of Earth (similar to the Settlement Defense Front in Infinite Warfare).

I'm using some ideas for the colonies: Like floating cities for Venus, underground and above ground ones for Mars, sub-surface city for the Moon near the Sea of Tranquility (actually this becomes Tranquility City) and the

Yep. Although I'm surprised what with everything going on.

The Minuteman is powered by a high-density cryogenic refrigerator battery that while powering the suit for at least 2 and half weeks (although strenuous combat situations can lower this to one week) uses a cryogenic fluid to cool the battery's superconducting material.
The armor of the suit uses a combination of ring carbon titanium and SWDWNT (Single-Walled Carbon Diamond Whisker Nanotubes) to help protect the operator. Strength amplification is provided by a combination of seromotors, hydraulic pistons, turbines, and electroelastic fibers.

Been doing some work on the Class II powered armored suits worn by the United Nations Defense Force (made up of members from various branches from each other the world's militaries) for my Interplanetary War/Earth vs Mars story, Invasion Day.
First up the American Minuteman.

The Minuteman was developed just prior to the Interplanetary War and was still being field tested.

Using the latest advancements in SQUID (Superconducting Quantum Interference Device) array, the Minuteman is designed to be transform an individual soldier into a superior fighting force (although Armored Troopers are tr

Almost got knocked out by a pinecone!
And almost had several huge tree limbs fall on me!
My mom had told me earlier that a storm was coming up while I was finishing up some stuff in the yard and then the storm blew in just minutes after I finished talking to her on the phone!
Jun 27, 2020 13:36
Hello everyone! Long time since I've been here.

Been busy with work and my stories. :D

Doing some quick work on my Terran super-soldiers: they'll be a cross between Halo's Spartan-IIs and Warhammer 40K's Space Marines.
Jun 26, 2019 02:48
Oh okay.
Jun 26, 2019 02:47
Well, what do you see as not being accurate for weapons?]
Jun 26, 2019 02:43
Oh?
Jun 26, 2019 02:42
Oh? You would think games like Call of Duty would at least try to portray the weapons accurately.
Jun 26, 2019 02:38
BTW, do you think games like Call of Duty portray weapons accurately?
Jun 26, 2019 02:37
Oh. I can see your point now.
Jun 26, 2019 02:32
Oh? So shows like Weaponology and the ones by R. Lee Ermey weren't in depth?
Jun 26, 2019 02:26
Apparently watermelons taste better after being shot by a machine gun. I learned that from him. :D
Jun 26, 2019 02:25
Lock n' Load with R. Lee Ermey is a reality television series about the development of military weaponry throughout the centuries. Hosted by actor and former U.S. Marine drill instructor R. Lee Ermey, its one season originally aired on the History channel in 2009. == Format == In a typical episode, Ermey focused on one specific type of weapon or weapon system, presenting key advancements in its technology and demonstrating their use with the help of experts. In a holdover from his duties hosting Mail Call on the History Channel, he frequently added humor in the form of light-hearted dril...

What did you think of them?

@Shalvenay

Jun 26, 2019 02:12
@Shalvenay I also remembered some other shows that show off weapons: Weaponology and Mail Call.
Jun 26, 2019 02:08
Cool. And thank you. :D
Jun 26, 2019 01:52
@JourneymanGeek and @Shalvenay please slap me for having a Homer Simpson moment.
Jun 26, 2019 01:52
It could release red/orange dust into the atmosphere and cause the sky to be orange!
Jun 26, 2019 01:51
Wait....

DOH!

Volcanic eruptions!
Jun 26, 2019 01:50
So, @JourneymanGeek yeah a jungle/forest planet would have a thicker atmosphere.
Jun 26, 2019 01:50
Forest planets tend to have atmospheres thicker than Earth's but with similar proportions of gases, like nitrogen, oxygen, carbon dioxide, and methane. The combination between thicker atmosphere and greater amounts of greenhouse gases would mean heating be distributed more evenly around the planet. As a result, climate would be similar worldwide, allowing forests and wildlife to thrive over much of the planet's surface. If it is tropically warm over much of the world, the term "jungle planet" would often be used instead. Because of the mentioned atmospheric tendencies, three quarters of all
Jun 26, 2019 01:46
@JourneymanGeek that's true. I was also going off of this too: http://planetstar.wikia.com/wiki/Forest_planet

It said that given the amount of light different stars give off, a planet's vegetation would be a different color instead of green. A planet orbiting an orange dwarf would have red vegetation.
Jun 26, 2019 01:40
It's a jungle planet too. So, not a lot of dust storms

Wait...wouldn't thinner atmosphere be a bad thing?
Jun 26, 2019 01:39
Oh? How so?
Jun 26, 2019 01:35
@JourneymanGeek the only thing I can think of to solve this is to use the fact that the setting is military science fantasy. Psionic energy particles cause the sky to be orange.
Jun 26, 2019 01:33
Anyone have any suggestions?

And the artist did an amazing job on several backgrounds for my alien world.
Jun 26, 2019 01:03
Well, dang, I goofed. :(

Apparently, a world orbiting an orange dwarf star would still have a blue sky!

Dang it!
Jun 25, 2019 02:51
I think I read it a long time ago. But only Armor. It was a good book. I'll probably reread it again.

I'm usually a Gundam fan, although I've been watching VOTOMs too.
Jun 25, 2019 01:32
Well, Forever War was good. It's been awhile since I read the book. I think Michael Bay is interested in doing a movie of it. Or he might do a Halo movie.
Jun 25, 2019 01:29
Hm....I see.
Jun 25, 2019 01:29
Yeah the movie was.
Jun 25, 2019 01:29
What do you mean Heinlein's politics swing wildly?
Jun 25, 2019 01:28
Oh?
