I was basing my comment on the various responses to self-nomination 4 years ago, along the lines of "you never do anything on the meta site!".

Tell you what. I don't plan to throw my hat in, because I imagine there are people with longer and deeper roots who are quite qualified. But if you find you aren't getting candidates and want to encourage me, drop me a comment.

OK, from the 2014 discussion, I see that (a) mods tend to have much higher reputation and (b) there's an expectation of much higher involvement in the meta site, which is something that in the past I didn't find very useful/relevant. So, probably not my cup of tea. Thanks again @MassimoOrtolano

... if the time commitment isn't too burdensome.

Thanks. Wasn't sure where that was. I guess another question is, what are the expectations? I'm sure to some extent that is a meta-type question applying across SE, but for academia, it would have its own issues and such. I was really active on ASE from when I first encountered it until late last summer. When I left that job I stopped paying attention for some time, and I've been more sporadic since then. But I think the forum is very valuable and would be interested in supporting it ....

How many people typically nominate for this in this exchange?

I actually was approving a suggested edit, and made a few more edits. The hard work came from someone else... not sure if their name sticks with the edit history.

Well, I think the general rule of StackExchange is to be broad, not specific. Not so much "does this article violate ethical standards" as much as "if someone did X, would it violate ethical standards". I actually don't have a problem with linking to the article, but I was saying that removing the name while leaving the link doesn't accomplish much. And my comment that it seemed unethical was based on the general claim, not the specific case (I did not read the SE thread or article).

If the article is linked to the question, I don't see how omitting the name from the question actually changes much. I can see why the question should be broader, and wonder whether the appropriate action was to unlink the article as well, and simply leave the question as rhetorical rather than a specific case? In any case, I would say, no, it sounds highly unethical.

Read my answer to which you replied earlier. Least Publishable Unit. It's a derogatory term.

@mathreadler just because you explain something differently doesn't move it beyond an LPU.

@mathreadler your answer makes the same point. You're still proposing unethical behavior. As a program chair, we rejected two papers that followed exactly your model. Same content, different words, still duplicates.

Plausible deniability, @mathreadler? For shame. Google "least publishable unit"....
