I'm surprised you are you "unsure why anyone works there" when you yourself say that they knocked everything off your checklist except pay; obviously they're employing people who don't care that much about salary. — Erik 4 hours ago

Your boss was fired for complaining about her work ethic?! Was the complaining inappropriate or to the wrong person, or is your company all messed up? That's a serious question, because it can affect what kind of answer we should give. — thursdaysgeek 2 hours ago

@gazzz0x2z It got downvoted and flagged because developer's don't like this guy's attitude. Which says something about our userbase. This is a good question (although I'm convinced it's flame-baiting) — rath 3 hours ago

I wouldn't care, with many people, family comes first. If there is a dispute between my wife and anyone else, I don't care who is in the right or wrong.... I back my wife. — Kilisi 8 mins ago

So you are an employer I assume? Would you ever judge that what your wife said about your employee is from personal or rational perspective? Your wife or you fire that employee? — gitguddoge 1 min ago

Leave or get forced out perhaps... my wife routinely asks my workers to do things, if she came to me and said one of them was a clown, he/she would be unemployed shortly afterwards. — Kilisi 3 mins ago

@arp I would not use that terminology. You have no idea what happened. The entire family could have died horribly in a house fire and such a question in that scenario would be distressing and awkward. Just stick with "hope you're OK" if anything and move on. — Lightness Races in Orbit 1 min ago

@alephzero I'm imagining that I don't know any details at all, just that they had a family emergency of some kind. In that situation, what else is one to say? Yes, if I know someone died I would say "You have my sympathies" or something like that instead. — zwol 7 hours ago

Are you certain that the time you take to help the seniors is not interfering with your own tasks? Does your manager get grumpy if you help those who are not in a highly senior position (junior devs or other apprentices)? — Kozaky 4 mins ago

@Draco18s You only charged $20/hr? You need to charge way more, especially since you should have charged a contractor rate. Consider that you have to pay payroll taxes (15.3%) and income taxes on that. Plus, you're undervaluing everyone else who does contract work. $50/hr minimum for experienced, specialized work, more like $100/hr for most people over 10 years, and higher depending on your area; my entry level contractor rate was $30/hr, 10+ years ago. — BloodGain 8 mins ago

I see, I thought about submitting the recommendation letter to my new manager so he knows that I am trustworthy and gives him and me a relief of having to prove myself. Also, I thought that this would set the bar that I am open for challenging tasks and show that I am somebody that could be relied on. These traits were not really emphasized during my interview — Raykh 2 hours ago

Or it may be the other way around - submitting the letter after getting in may put you in position that you now have more to prove, because you "promise" more things. Smart manager will acknowledge the recommendation, but verify it nevertheless. — Drakemor 2 hours ago

It is not clear what the questions is - are you asking if you will be fired? — Drakemor 2 hours ago

I think this email is way too long. It would be better to just ask for an update, or ask whether it would be possible to get their decision until the 31 of July. Then you could say that you have another offer, but you would really love to work here, and that's the reason why you are asking now. I doubt they are interested in all the details, it might be annoying to have to read and try to understand all this. — vgeclair 2 hours ago

Yes I’m asking if I’ll be fired and I’m in Sydney Australia. Also when my colleague said it would be her or someone else, the someone else part was referring to another position not mine. — Amari 2 hours ago
