@JimStewart I'm currently "in talks" with a couple of plumbers, offering the suggestions mentioned here. They keep going quiet on me though, I don't think anyone wants such a fiddly job.

@Huesmann It's a single piece of wall panel, a bit like MDF.
Jun 23, 2024 06:39
@JimStewart It needs raising approx 6".
Jun 23, 2024 06:39
@Huesmann Any details in particular? There's a circular cover (which I can't seem to remove) which covers up where it is screwed into the wall. Everything from the main head attachment point, to about 6" below where it is screwed into the wall, is all one piece.

@JimStewart In the UK. The only spare pipe part that the manufacturer does seems to be about 12" long. The original fitter spent some time trying to find pipework that would fit, before finally giving up.

@JimStewart Yes, it's the big shower head that's the issue. I suppose using only the hand-held is an option of last resort. Edit: Unfortunately, the join referred to by FreeMan prevents the hand-held going any higher.
Jun 23, 2024 06:39
@FreeMan Yes, there is a join there. Getting a pipe of approx the same diameter is probably easy, but I assume it would need "welding" or something to actually fit it, as getting one with a matching thread has proved impossible.

@Traveler I've added another pic.

One issue would be that almost every bug a developer fixes prevents a future problem. Which of those bugfixes are should be rewarded? All of them?

In your comment, you say "Most of the code is not 6 months old, it's just a couple of pull requests", but in your question you say "50 pull requests" and "several months". Which is it?

Was it organised by one person off their own back, or was it an official company party?

OP, are you talking specifically about the European "Console" market, or more general "video game" market? As has been said, home computers were far more prevalent.

Were you explicitly asked to refactor the code?

@Erik I know ("My wife"?), but why does that mean she needs to be involved in his work life? And vice-versa: "I don't honestly think the people I work with would care much about seeing my family". Why would they? Is there some special connection between them I'm not seeing?
Apr 25, 2018 21:03
"My wife says she feels a bit left out from my work life". Is there any reason why she feels the need to be involved with your work life?

Since when was the word "Startup" a pass on implementing slavery?

In one of my previous positions, I (and others) were forced to work overtime to finish a project. We got it in on time, then over the next few months about 20% of the devs, including myself, left the company once there was time to go for interviews. In addition, you need to have a calendar on the wall showing everyone's leave. I've never worked somewhere where I've had to "inform" anyone of my leave. I did that when I booked it.

Did your girlfriend leave a job to move with you to the new city?

Part of me wonders if these posts are part of an elaborate joke.

Do you have any private information in the files? If there's nothing you care about other people seeing, just leave them and move on.

"That being said, if you have any skill with kids yourself, and can go over and get them to stop screaming without issuing blunt force trauma or mental scarring, don't be afraid to get your hands dirty." How would that work?

A common symptom of doing menial tasks well and without question is that they will often be pushed onto you by superiors, since there's less chance you'll complain or kick up a fuss. My serious advice would be to delay doing the job (look for something else important do until it's time to go home) and/or don't do it very well (i.e. leave out a few cups). Otherwise you'll end up doing it forever.

How long was "briefly"? I've been at the sharp end of a short "snap" on my first job when I was a lot younger, and it was very disconcerting and upsetting.
