Clearly some of the software doesn't like the old hardware, but that's beside the point.
Dec 14, 2019 20:36
That is strange.

So, I recently got the site-metrics perk, and it seems pretty useless for a 25k perk.

@Chan-HoSuh - yes I have used VS Code on Ubuntu for react stuff. And yes, you used to be able to find people here on a Saturday night.
Aug 13, 2019 20:21
@TheWanderer Check out Mosh's videos on getting started with React. They're pretty good.

@Fabby Yes, transit authority that handles subways and buses

fair enough. had a fellow on fedbook complaining about the MTA being jammed up on his first day at a new job in NY. I just shook my head. It's jammed up every day. You either leave early and get there way early, leave on time and are late, or leave late and get there a little late.
Jul 15, 2019 21:37
Too late for edits
Jul 15, 2019 21:35
@Fabby ^^
Jul 15, 2019 21:34
Honestly though, I'm an honest man mostly.

We're killing off x86, but we're not really killing off x86 article techrepublic.com/article/…
Jul 2, 2019 15:24
@terdon that's fair. I think it's to support x86 games mostly.
Jul 2, 2019 15:21
meanwhile Ubuntu is deprecating x32 packages and breaking steam/wine
Jul 2, 2019 15:20
I don't doubt it. If it's still true though, that's some serious legacy buy-in
Jul 2, 2019 15:11
Saw an article recently that stated that NY metro systems ran on OS/2

Anyone have any thoughts? I'm trying not to be terse on a compilation question...

Wine is going to be in trouble though.

@terdon points for writing readable code. I generally follow the rule that a 4 year old should be able to read python and tell you basically what it does. It's why I avoid random things like lambda functions and custom magic. Another rule of thumb I use is if your function comment is basically the function name/signature, you're probably doing it right.

That competing answer from bashy mcbashface though.
May 25, 2019 21:26
That is, lighting up the code coverage board was the requirement. The tests didn't have to do anything, but some people liked my tests because they actually tested things.
May 25, 2019 21:23
Some coworkers liked my tests because they actually tested functionality and didn't just light up the code coverage board, which was the requirement.
May 25, 2019 21:21
I got in to trouble because my test code was as large as my production code, because unit tests turned in to integration tests.
May 25, 2019 21:18
@WinEunuuchs2Unix because you have to set up a class and you can't just mock and patch if you do it OO. if you do it procedurally, you know ins and outs immediately.
May 25, 2019 21:17
@WinEunuuchs2Unix there's also a difference between when you should use procedural and when you should use object oriented. specifically when you have mandatory 100% test coverage. writing unit tests for OO code is a pita.

Let's not take it political, because then we have to do the whole democracy is bad bit where we talk about mob rule and voting for theft.

They beat us in curling and skiing too.

Monday is the given suck. I do more on the weekend than I do on Monday. It's Tuesday where you have to pick the pace back up again to be on target for Friday... hence the suck of Tues.

/r/shortstories --

it was a tuesday like any other, terrible.
May 25, 2019 14:05
@terdon You're killing me with answers posted on Tuesday.
May 25, 2019 13:59
@Fabby Hahaaa. It was because we were using eventsourcing and the academic thought that performant on 10 records would be performant on 5000 records.
May 25, 2019 13:55
@Fabby It's true. Happened on my last job.
May 25, 2019 13:54
That act either works or really backfires. Example, "This is what I was talking about when I said we should have separate tables for each event type in the beginning. No query should take 15 seconds to complete and timeout chrome but work in postman" @Fabby

@Rinzwind yes. i posted a link to db search earlier.
May 25, 2019 13:48
@Rinzwind that i had not seen
May 25, 2019 13:47
Yep, linear. At this rate, I'll be at 25k next year or so. @Fabby

May 25, 2019 13:41
I haven't seen the rep downspike everyone is talking about, so I guess I'll shut my mouth.
May 25, 2019 13:29
You just broke me @Fabby - Champagne and KFC is just wrong on so many levels.
May 25, 2019 12:37
Makes sense. I just thought I should be able to find it in data-explorer. Turns out, you can't. Thought I'ld make sure you knew so you didn't waste time on it.
May 25, 2019 12:32
Sorry @DKBose - I tried it with ciprus's old account and I couldn't find it with a direct query to that account, so the data is purged. The only way that gets an answer is someone with inside knowledge.
