Yes the fraction is supposed to be irreductible, i.e. $\frac pq$ with $\gcd(p,q)=1$ and $q$ odd. I detailled all that in my $(-1)^{2.16}$ post.

@GMeso $e$ is not a rational with odd denominator, that is why.

Oh sorry, my intention wasn't to advertise my answer, I just copied the wrong link.
Oct 2, 2024 14:14
Yeah ok, but I just find this a bit harsh. There are many worse questions out there that do not get such treatment. Anyway I'm not here to reopen or something, I was just surprised.

I'm puzzled by some of the closures lately. Take this post for instance https://math.stackexchange.com/a/4978259/399263 what is wrong with it ?

In Latex, provides work, has plenty of answers, has tags, has good tittle, not marked as duplicate, no negative points... So why does this get closed as "missing context".

Damn, I woke up this morning just to see 5 downvotes, while I very very rarely have some. I think I'm not motivated any more for the day... Well I feel relieved to have said it!
Jan 22, 2019 15:03
@MartinSleziak thank you for your investigation. I just merged my answer to what appears to be the "main" post. In fact it was more interested by the how and what about community bot rather than the right to exists of this particular post.
Jan 22, 2019 09:37
I though community was removing only abandonned question, so I'm a bit surprised about this one.
Jan 22, 2019 09:36
Why does such a question has been removed by community bot ?
Sep 27, 2017 13:32
@user170039 no, this user has more rep than me, so it'll be weird if I edit his post, even to add just a space.
Sep 27, 2017 13:20
Isn't possible to reverse a downvote I made too hastily ? a popup says it is locked.

As long as $x_1>0$ the sequence is positive because your RHS is. Also calculate $f(x)-\sqrt{B}=\dfrac{(x-\sqrt{B})^3}{D>0}$ so your sequence is always the same side of $\sqrt{B}$.
Oct 21, 2022 14:53
Just calculate $f(x)-x=\dfrac{x(B-x^2)}{D>0}$ since $x_1=1>0$ then all $x_n>0$ so this behaves as $(B-x^2)$. So increasing on the left of the limit and decreasing on the right.

Provided that the rational root theorem does not use in its proof stuff like "surds are irrational" or something similar. This is always the risk (circular reasoning) when using a powerful theorem to prove something a priori weaker.

My user homepage layout just suddenly changed. Is it an issue on my side, or do you also have it ?
Jul 20, 2021 20:17
I feel relieved, lol.

Have I tampered with some color settings or does everyone see orange galore on Math.SE today ? (new question, OP name, and a few other stuff)...

@BalarkaSen thanks.

Hello, what is the english translation for "polynôme scindé sur K" i.e. the polynomial has all its roots in K. I cannot seem to find an equivalent for "scindé", can I say "split" ?
Oct 9, 2017 16:52
@ShaVuklia ok, thx, I'll try again later then.
Oct 9, 2017 16:50
hi, are there problems with SE.imgur at the moment? I can't embed pictures in my posts (and never had issues before).
Sep 27, 2017 00:42
ah, found it !
Sep 27, 2017 00:33
Hello all, is there a thematic entry on SE for "correct result obtained by applying wrong method" ? I searched a bit, but didn't found, yet I would be surprised that such a topic won't exist yet.
Jul 9, 2017 13:52
it's a popular subject though.
Jul 9, 2017 13:50
yep, I often fall back to $\exp$ in many cases stuff getting too small.
Jul 9, 2017 13:43
I have a doubt about an answer I made : math.stackexchange.com/questions/2352152/… , I find it very simple but got 0 vote while the other two keep being upvoted for hours. Did I wrote something that terrible ?
Jul 9, 2017 13:37
arf found the reason, http changed to https
Jul 9, 2017 13:35
Has something changed, LateX not working anymore in my chat ?
Apr 22, 2017 17:01
@Kirill yes, $(b_k-a_k)^2\ge 0$ allows to show $a_kb_k\to 0$ directly but you really need cauchy-schwarz for the serie.
Apr 22, 2017 16:51
ask your question, if someone is a graph theorist he will answer, maybe even when you are gone looking at the chat history.
Apr 22, 2017 16:48
uh. what is the context ?
Apr 22, 2017 16:47
sorry in absolute value.
Apr 22, 2017 16:47
you have $0\le ab\le (a^2+b^2)/2$ too.
Apr 22, 2017 16:45
in the sense of converging to zero I suppose
Mar 15, 2017 17:56
you wrote it first in full words, then semi used the acronym, I copied.
Mar 15, 2017 17:54
But if you use the EET somehow you'll have to use additions, substractions, we are biting our tail.
Mar 15, 2017 17:49
sorry for being heavy, but there is supposed to be some logic in the picture posted ? because I do not see it.
Mar 15, 2017 17:44
it has different thinness though
Mar 15, 2017 17:41
But how did you defined multiplication then ?
Mar 15, 2017 17:39
same kind of stuff for the product.

Mar 23, 2021 11:16
How do you specify alternating sequence. For instance is $z_1-z_2$ possible or should the minus sign arise only when there are $3$ terms as in $z_1+z_2-z_3$. In other words do we have $\pm z_1\mp z_2\pm z_3\mp\cdots$ or $z_1+z_2-z_3+z_4-z_5+\cdots$ or $z_1-z_2+z_3-z_4+z_5-\cdots$ ?

Sep 15, 2020 13:44
I think OP meant, Let $z\in\mathbb Q$ s.t. $z<2$ does there always exists $(x,y)\in\mathbb Q^2$ s.t. $x^2<2$, $y^2<2$ and $xy=z$.

Jun 27, 2020 13:33
Apply your method to $(1+2+\cdots+n)/(1+3+\cdots+2n+1)$ since denominator is $S_{2n+1}-2S_n$ you will find limit $1/(1-2)=-1$ but the true limit is $1/2$. Your method works by accident.
Jun 27, 2020 13:33
It's worse it is a rearrangement of a divergent series. There is potential infinite numbers in these "$\cdots$'.

I'm not too much disturbed by the filled boxes, but I find numbers very pale and difficult to read in the right column.
Jan 17, 2018 22:38
@amWhy Ah you noticed too, I though I had changed my settings or something, but appears it is a global change. I agree with you it's not an happy choice of tone.
Mar 25, 2017 17:39
@quid thanks, that's what I've done, waiting for OP to manifest herself.
Mar 25, 2017 13:23
I'd like to delete an accepted answer, because it is too much complications to give a correct version, I'd prefer to let that to specialists of the subject. But the system won't let me. How do I proceed ?
