I kid! [at least on the asking too much part.. ;) ]
Feb 28, 2012 20:03
Now you are just asking too much! Software is like cars, even after 10 years of use it, 75% of users really have no idea...

If a customer tries to 'run' an application, they obviously expect it to open. If it happens to be already opened in the sys tray, why wouldn't you restore it instead of apparently doing nothing (or worse, bombing out with the ever so friendly Error: xF5D06)
Feb 28, 2012 19:58
To be fair, I've caught myself with that before. In all honest that is just crap UX design on the developers side.

@Yannis, it isn't impossible, just harder. You can still flag things for moderators attention. For example, answers that should be comments, answers/questions that are offensive or spam, etc.

I think that is my first black star
Jan 13, 2012 04:47
Seems like there are some books I need to get to re-build my bookshelf

OMG. I just found a novel on my life (if I were a superhero that is)...
Jan 13, 2012 04:28
I see you assume someone can achieve that without reaching a level of insanity that would result in them being distracted trying rewrite the Linux kernel in LOLCODE++
Jan 13, 2012 02:58
Thanks for the vote too
Jan 13, 2012 02:58
Thanks, that is a great suggestion
Jan 13, 2012 02:57
Ohh, now I get it
Jan 13, 2012 02:45
@ZaphodBeeblebrox, I'll admit it, you lost me there. Are you suggesting I add a link to ...? Maybe the definition of code obfuscation? The link you provide there is the question I answered. As much as I enjoy recursion, I'm not sure it would help in this case ;)

It's a shame nothing more has happened with the P.SE blog proposal
Jan 12, 2012 14:26
Did I miss anything?

A: How do I encrypt the source code on the webserver?

Dan McGrathOnce your customer has a program they can run, they will be able to reverse engineer it given sufficient time & skill. That is just a fact of life. If you really want to stop it, you should host and run the software yourself (SaaS) Having said that, something like Python will be easier than...

and I think that demonstrates how often I've been here the last few months
Jan 12, 2012 02:00
Ah, nice to know :)
Jan 12, 2012 01:46
How long has that been in place?
Jan 12, 2012 01:46
Ohhh, there is a snazzy new notification bar for migration alerts now.
Jan 12, 2012 01:45
Awesome. Didn't think you would still be here.
Jan 12, 2012 01:27
We should vote to move this to SO: programmers.stackexchange.com/questions/129666/…
Jan 12, 2012 01:26
Well, at least on some days
Jan 12, 2012 01:26
I bet. I think the worst part of working as a corporate programmer for me was the feeling you (IT) was just a cost center at the bottom of the pile
Jan 12, 2012 01:24
Nice.
Jan 12, 2012 01:22
For a software company or a financial directly?
Jan 12, 2012 01:22
I see you do financial systems.
Jan 12, 2012 01:21
No pressure, it's only people's paychecks (and mine!)
Jan 12, 2012 01:20
I did monthly production implementations for 5 years at a bank.
Jan 12, 2012 01:20
Understood.
Jan 12, 2012 01:19
Actually, that thought made my day a little better - just when I was starting to miss cutting code
Jan 12, 2012 01:18
Have fun with that
Jan 12, 2012 01:17
Oh, they also can be unpleasant
Jan 12, 2012 01:04
@CRoss. Here-here! I wish all I had to do was think of what I wanted and poof! it's there - an optimized solution that is user friendly, secure, scalable and accounts for edge cases I didn't think of.
Jan 11, 2012 22:12
@DeadMG, only 470ish pages? One of my profs did close to 200+ pp slides per week, on average.

Jan 11, 2012 21:07
Anything without > 90 angles between points would be good, actually.
Jan 11, 2012 21:07
I wish I had oval wheels...
Jan 11, 2012 20:40
@Mark, I would vote for that. I'm sure if the SE people were so inclined, they could find a nice clean way to implement that
Jan 11, 2012 20:37
@DeadMG, the computer science major in my believes the gap is so small it is only theoretical, however the professional side of my thinks it is so huge it is practically insurmountably.
Jan 11, 2012 20:15
@Jon, Mark has high standards for "moderately" :)
Jan 11, 2012 19:55
Howdy
Jan 11, 2012 19:46
I can agree with that
Jan 11, 2012 19:43
I think that is the only thing this question could have meant and that an edit to that effect makes it answerable (as per already answered too) and suitable to be moved to SO. Not sure if you would agree?
Jan 11, 2012 19:43
@Mark, see my last comment on the recently closed question: programmers.stackexchange.com/questions/129623/…
Jan 11, 2012 19:36
@MarkTrapp, agreed on the meta discussion comment. I forgot about the only vote once restriction, thanks for reminding me.
