I recall using MIX C for CP/M, I'm pretty sure well before 1980? Whether it was "major commercial product" I can't say. I probably saw it advertised in BYTE magazine, so I'm sure I'm not the only person who used it.

The more complex a system is the more things can go wrong. email and sms can sometimes take HOURS or longer before being delivered. Sure, they usually don't. "But Daddy, I crossed the street lots of time without looking and never got hit by a car!"

If you're interested in any technology, you're usually somewhat interested in all technologies. I write software for a living. I use to work as a machinist and still do as a hobby. I used to build and repair musical instruments, I still do that in my shop. I tinkered with electronics as a preteen, still do. I want to know who interviewees are and what else they might bring to the table that's not in the formal job description. I have no expectations or demands, but I'd rather not hire someone who is working strictly for the paycheck, but at least partly because they find the work interesting.

This is just one of many articles that may vary in detail, but generally indicate the same thing, and this is why "the majority agree": gobankingrates.com/saving-money/savings-advice/… Short story: Most spend way beyond their means. The Majority may not really be very sensible. Yes, "normal is broke."

Even worse. I was once sent a data file someone had named COM_something_or_other. (For "Community".) DOS thought it was a COM port. IIRC I had go fiddle with a hex editor before anything useful could be done with it. But that's beating a dead horse of a different color.

Personally, in these cases I always play safe by wearing my tinfoil hat.(Of course, going through security with that on can be a problem...)

Feral chickens are plentiful in Hawaii, but I'm not sure what predators are there. I'm wondering if the unstated reason that the Humans are no longer present might have some impact on the fate of the chickens?

My observation is that slamming him on social media will be much faster and more effective than either involving the credit card company or the courts. You will be jeopardizing his entire business, not just the loss of this single sale, and if he has any sense at all he will know this.

Although there probably is much more to it, the first three words of this answer are reason enough, for just about any government.

@Chris Rackauckas "But it wasn't the best financial choice. I know that and accept that." No, you don't accept that. Hence your question.

Simple. Most gun owners self-identify as "conservative". Therefore, anything they disagree with is automatically "Liberal".

Living here in North America, a co-worker from China (in his 30's) told me " I never saw a white person until I was 17." China is enormous, but does not have the diversity to which we westerners are accustomed and take for granted.

I don't have a reference, but I believe some of the earliest carriers (WWI) consisted of (wooden?) decks build over existing vessels. So yes, possible to do cheaply, whether wise or not.

@quid Apologies - My now deleted answer was supposed to be a comment to Surest Texas, which it now is.

The term "apprenticeship" means that persons with greater knowledge are mentoring you and are heavily involved in your learning process. You should find another company. Run, don't walk.

The alternative to "looking things up" is memorizing the entire contents of MSDN plus another hundred equivalent bodies of information. Of course, most of us professionals did this with no effort whatsoever, and the rest all now work at Walmart and McDonalds.

@JWea417 With all respect, you have a bigger issue than this. You are living beyond your means, and must sort that out. The first step would be getting rid of all your debt, which in this case might mean *get rid of the car* it is a burden, however you may justify your need for it.

I know that this is not "the kind of company in the question" but I have to say that there are also companies that have a going away party, take the resigning employee out to a farewell lunch, wish them well, and may give them an unexpected bonus for their years of contribution. I've worked for them. (And do.)
