@vidarlo I imagine every man counts himself part of the "real men" group and other men as not being in the "real men" group. :)

For a quicker response you can just email me through the website. I didn't get your last message for 12 days.
Nov 17, 2021 04:26
The website is progressing slower than I had hoped. There is a bit of multi-timer stuff there But I don't think I'll get all the Stack Exchange Answers conveted until Christmas.
Oct 24, 2021 19:36
I'll have to take a look at other apps to see how they play sounds
Oct 24, 2021 14:58
It sounds like the easiest solution would just let the user pick the program to play sounds. In the short term the user just has to change paplay in the bash script to whatever they want to use.

As far as "pippim.com" coming soon goes, "pippim.github.io" will be coming sooner as I spent last weekend and this weekend working on it. pippim.com was developed in Google Sites and pippim.github.io was developed in Github Pages which is a more programmer friendly IMO.
Oct 24, 2021 02:50
I posted a question on Stack Overflow how to find out the default sound player: stackoverflow.com/q/69693122/6929343
Oct 23, 2021 01:23
The conky config is already shared as a text file in Ask Ubuntu: askubuntu.com/a/1047763/307523 I will put it on github pages some day too. Currently I'm working on a project to get all the Ask Ubuntu answers (about 2,000) converted to blog posts on pippim.com website or pippim.github.io website.
Oct 21, 2021 12:37
My goal is to get all these links from Stack Exchange on my website as blog posts that can be searched.
Oct 21, 2021 12:36
The .conkyrc configuration file will also go up there. For now it is here: askubuntu.com/questions/103634/… and here: askubuntu.com/questions/103634/… The cpu image is from cpuf which is in Ask Ubuntu: askubuntu.com/questions/1141605/…
Oct 21, 2021 12:34
I'll have to do more research on aplay, paplay and perhaps a sound player that can be installed. pippim.com and pippim.github.io are both empty websites for the time being. It will take a lot of work to get them populated. First comes a lot of learning! I will put MT and all the other popular programs on the websites eventually though.
Oct 19, 2021 23:56
I guess I really don't understand the problem you are having with aplay. BTW I've finally created a website: pippim.com but a lot more work is required and it's not as easy learning this stuff as I had hoped it would be, sigh.
Oct 7, 2021 20:02
Glad program close is working properly now! I learned bash coding in Ask Ubuntu. Sometimes Ask Ubuntu only has brief summary on a command and I need to google more in-depth examples.
Oct 7, 2021 13:59
The devs are right there is no source code that needs to be compiled. But there is bash code where developers sometimes put in a license. I've avoided putting in bash code licenses and python code licenses so far. I see no problem with a GNU license for your repo.
Oct 7, 2021 02:12
Do you mean can I put MT in github? Yes I was planning on putting it there along with movie.sh which someone was asking about today. Licenses kind of confuse me MIT, Apache2, etc. But I think GNU is OK. Eventually I want to quit my day job and make money from software at which time licenses will become more important. But that day is three years away I guesstimate.

The first "problem" will be sharing the timer with yourself on different devices as it is running. The second "problem" is sharing timer with other users in your group. The third problem is sharing the timer with other users in the world. The fourth problem is access rights. EG someone in your group can pause your timer but another user in the world can only copy your timer but not see when it is running.
Oct 3, 2021 16:28
The server would be Google Cloud Platform written in Python, Flask, etc. The browser of course runs HTML, Java and CSS.
Oct 3, 2021 16:27
Domain must end in .com so user doesn't have to type it. Domain name must be easy to remember. Ideally domain name is six characters or less. Ideally domain name can by typed with one hand. Most importantly domain name doesn't have to be purchased for thousands of dollars. Just the $17 CAD per year (about $13 USD I think).
Oct 3, 2021 16:26
I've already spent a week trying to think of a domain name for my new web applications :)
Oct 3, 2021 16:25
If you want to share timers you would have to create a user account and specify which users can access your timers. Also multiple users can control the same timer execution if such permission was given. This also means you can start a timer set on your laptop and click next timer on your cell phone.
Oct 3, 2021 16:24
Timers can be configured and stored locally so no user sign on is necessary.
Oct 3, 2021 16:24
Because every device has a browser it would run on every device including your Android Car stereo.
Oct 3, 2021 16:23
It would require a browser to run but it wouldn't need internet if run off-line.
Oct 2, 2021 20:19
However the plan would be to put that into the load / save timer routines where each timer set would have variable number of timers.
Oct 2, 2021 20:18
I've yet to reach a definitive method of coding variable number of timers automatically though,.
Oct 2, 2021 20:17
As far as 4K monitor goes and 25 being the max it's all dependent on font size. I have my monitors set for 11 point font when the conventional is probably 8 point. I agree it would be nice for user just to specify number of timers without having to change code manually. I've already thought of ways to try to accomplish that.
Oct 2, 2021 20:17
I'm leaning towards an infinite number of timers with the number of timers displayed at a time dependent on window size and font size. A scroll bar is required which of course all browsers have but I don't think yad has.
Oct 2, 2021 01:15
I think you made a request a year ago to increase maximum of 40 timers and a web browser version would accommodate that.
Oct 2, 2021 01:13
The advantage of the browser is you can simply just scroll down adding new timers forever. When the timer set begins it starts at the first timer and when necessary scrolls to reveal the next timer.
Oct 2, 2021 01:05
The number of timers is a maximu. I only use three timers (wash, rinse, dry) but I use the default of 10 maximum timers. The other 7 timers simply don't show up on the progress display window. I agree it is awkward when you want to increase the maximum from 10 to 19 or whatever it is.
Oct 1, 2021 00:15
Congrats on making a Deb package!
Oct 1, 2021 00:15
Yes add would be for the current timer. I'm thinking of MT for every user on every device on any browser and allowing other users permission to watch the timer. I will need to learn HTML, Javascript, CSS, Flask and Google Cloud Platform. No doubt it will take many months to complete. I can't stick all of PA functionality into MT. PA is probably written in C and compiled.
Sep 30, 2021 00:38
I was thinking of adding a pause button to the count down timer and an advance button to add x seconds or minutes. Also an option to give permission to another user, or group of users to access the timer.
Sep 30, 2021 00:35
PA is pretty much universal. Not sure why you don't have it?
Sep 29, 2021 10:31
What do you use instead of Pulse Audio?
Sep 25, 2021 21:57
I found this for executing a script by double clicking on it: stackoverflow.com/questions/42044798/…
Sep 25, 2021 19:24
I was doing a little digging today and other people are having problems killing an alarm clock: forums.bunsenlabs.org/viewtopic.php?id=6257
Sep 25, 2021 14:54
OK. I keep thinking about this problem periodically and if any new ideas come up I'll let you know.
Sep 25, 2021 01:29
It wasn't /usr/bin/alacarte you needed to comment the line it was /usr/bin/multi-timer. Sorry for the confusion.
Sep 24, 2021 12:34
Another thing to try in Alacarte is to check the "Run in Terminal" box.
Sep 24, 2021 11:46
Oh I see. Yes to fix Alacarte problem of where MT keeps running after window is closed.
Sep 24, 2021 01:06
Ubuntu has nothing to do with MT. It runs with Bash and Yad under Linux or Windows 10 WSL.
Sep 23, 2021 13:05
# Suppress Transient parent error spam
exec 2> >(grep -v 'GtkDialog mapped without a transient parent' >&2)
Sep 23, 2021 13:05
One thing to try to fix Alacarte is to comment out the second line below:
Sep 23, 2021 02:05
I think 8 hours is about right.
Sep 23, 2021 02:05
The 8 hours is not quick work and that doesn't even include the 2 hours (approximately) already spent researching and defining the project scope so far. The 8 hour estimate does include time for testing and additional tweaking after initial version though. It also includes time for documentation and setting up on github.
Sep 23, 2021 02:03
Having MT create folders for user is a headache. It's much easier if the user created the folders first and changed to that directory before calling MT. MT already allows user to specify alarm file anme and location. Speaking of icons, the load and save dialog boxes also have icons.
Sep 22, 2021 11:44
The load/save in Iconic points to the current directory and lets user pick any directory they want to store the files. For your goals you would need a wrapper script around MT to create directory and change to it before calling /usr/bin/multi-timer Other than that it looks like a good fit and my guesstimate is 8 hours of work.
Sep 22, 2021 03:21
/usr/share is owned by root user. MT isn't designed for sudo powers. I wonder if that has something to do with the problems?
Sep 21, 2021 02:30
I'm using Unity Desktop which doesn't have an Applications Menu at all.
