@Raditz_35 I don't think that is a very fair assessment. This question is about defining the scope of what needs to change in history, not asking us to write a new history. I actually think this is great; any alternate history question is broad would be closed, but by asking for questions, not answers, this is a good way to narrow the scope of the question.

God damn AIs.

@HDE226868 I can't believe I spelled Alcubierre drive incorrectly throughout my post, like a n00b. I blame Google, because when I googled the Wikipedia article it just gave me the correct results without telling me that I was an idiot.
Apr 24, 2019 15:03
@NexTerren I want to see that
Apr 24, 2019 15:01
I never tried to program and drive before, that is for sure
Apr 24, 2019 15:01
Its a whole new world
Apr 24, 2019 14:56
If I do all my calls in the car, I pretty much won't have any more work to do
Apr 24, 2019 14:55
I think that is the key to cracking the code here
Apr 24, 2019 14:55
which I am currently exceptionally uncomfortable with
Apr 24, 2019 14:55
@James So, everyone else in management does calls while driving
Apr 24, 2019 10:58
No time to sit idly on chat much anymore, alas
Apr 24, 2019 10:58
I used to visit SE every day as a programmer, but now that I'm a team lead I spend less and less time alone in front of my computer and more and more on the phone.
Apr 24, 2019 10:57
@James Busy! I'm in ... like ... management now.
Apr 24, 2019 02:50
Not really, I got mod pinged by James to satiate his desire for data
Apr 24, 2019 02:49
Hey @Shalvenay
Apr 24, 2019 02:49
You can't see much change around the March 11 cutoff
Apr 24, 2019 02:49
I did a variant with a 7 day rolling average
Apr 24, 2019 02:48
@James Looks like @bilbo_pingouin mostly got it.
Dec 10, 2018 15:00
So whenever we do work-related conference video chats, he's always surrounded by coats like he is on his way to Narnia.
Dec 10, 2018 14:59
I have a work friend who has been kicked into this walk-in closet at home to do work
Dec 10, 2018 14:59
@AndyD273 That is such a wife response...oh, you're going to the basement to do your nerdcast again, ok, fine.
Dec 5, 2018 19:40
alright, more discussion laters, toodles
Dec 5, 2018 19:40
I gotta get this API client working
Dec 5, 2018 19:39
Ok, damnit, I have real work to do
Dec 5, 2018 19:39
We could call it a scyppanthing, which means, roughly, creation meeting, in Old English.

Q: Creating a medieval dropforge

JamesGlornakan the blacksmith is looking for a way to mass produce plate armor with medieval technology. More specifically with a creation requiring nothing beyond what existed in our medieval history. This question on history SE gives what appear to be good estimates on how long it takes to craft ...

Dec 5, 2018 19:34
I loved James' question about the Smithmoot, but I can't think of a term like Worldbuildingmoot that rolls off the tongue.
Dec 5, 2018 19:33
Oh yeah, that one
Dec 5, 2018 19:32
But, I'm going to go ahead and trademark Proceedings of the Conference of the Worldbuilders right now
Dec 5, 2018 19:32
@Green I dunno, I'd have to think about how to make this more of a thing
Dec 5, 2018 19:21
@Green Haha, a WB Conference request for papers
Dec 5, 2018 19:18
@Green Good question, I don't see much of those
Dec 5, 2018 19:17
@Green Gotta be space weapons! We can also have a "no stealth in space" death match.
Dec 5, 2018 19:15
@Green So have security on hand with tasers for the panel discussion, got it

Dec 5, 2018 19:14
@James Star for timing :)
Dec 5, 2018 19:11
Because I'm intrigued, even if I probably can't go.
Dec 5, 2018 19:11
Ok, so back on topic(-ish), if there were a WB conference, what would the agenda look like?
Dec 5, 2018 19:09
I'd mute the sound and everything!
Dec 5, 2018 19:08
@Green They can always tell!

Aug 10, 2019 04:24
There isn't enough information in the question to answer this reasonably. how can we establish the proper caliber for the weapon if we don't know what are you actually shooting with the gun? What are you stabbing with the "glaive"? People? Dragons? How are you going to use a glaive against a lion or something; why not a spear with crossguard? How rare is ammunition? If people shoot people commonly with guns, does that mean smaller caliber ammo is more common? What is the use of the reach of a polearm in a land with guns? Question barely makes sense, IMO.

@inappropriateCode If evenhanded discussion and 'learning' was the objective of this education, then indeed my objection would be lacking. But you and I and everyone know the true purpose of teaching children about sexual intercourse. No one, not even the most conservative, suggests that a man should not love another man; if only all men loved one another as you love your brother, or as Jesus loved John. Why should we teach 12 year olds that we be should tolerate a man sticking his penis inside another man's anal orifice?
Jul 12, 2019 08:33
@Graham Are you planning on taking my children away? They are 3, 2, and 0; who is going to take care of them for the next 18+ years? You, Graham? A government re-education camp? Or are you going to mandate my speech to my own children? Take your totalitarian worldview out of here, O'Brien.
Jul 12, 2019 08:33
@Ben You can't tolerate sin; not in your children; not when the consequence is eternal punishment. Just because you don't believe in that, doesn't mean that other people don't believe in that. Combine 'gay' and 'pride', and you have a surefire recipe for damnation, in Christian theology, and evidently in Islamic theology, too. It's not a matter of tolerance: as a Christian parent it is my obligation to do everything I can to teach my children that the secular world is wrong, and that unrepentant homosexuality will lead to hell.

May 29, 2019 11:35
@MartinBonner In general, please don't listen to non-Christian's opinion of Christianity while ignoring what us Christians say about ourselves. If we only read Russian author's opinions of the Germans, how fair a picture do you think we would have of the German people? The writings of the church fathers provide clear evidence of what was chosen to celebrate and when.
May 29, 2019 11:35
@MartinBonner Christmas (generally, The Nativity) was chosen at its current date because the early church believed that Christ died exactly 30 years after he came into the world. Therefore, the Annunciation was lined up with Easter/Pascha. The Nativity/Christmas would logically be 9 months after. The couplet of March 25/December 25 for the two days is included in Hippolytus of Rome and Clement of Alexandria, both around 200 AD.

This is a level of alarmism that only my mother-in-law would subscribe to. If you buy a bag of potatoes at the store, and eat all of them in a week or two, including all the skins, you will still be alive. Because I am; and so are my wife and kids. For purposes where peeled potatoes are better, such as tough-skinned russets or mashed potatoes, we freeze the peels then deep fry them for a snack. My kids, who, again, are still alive (and healthy!) love them. I know you have citations and all, but at some point real life experience has to trump what you see on the internet.

You are confusing alt-right and populists. "Globalist" is not malapropriated by the alt-right, it is used with negative connotation by populist parties that are sweeping the western world. Alt-right is a pretty nebulous term, which appears to be mostly used as a pejorative by the left. What politician self-identifies as alt right? It would be more accurate to talk about populists in this context; there are plenty of those (self-identified). Also, really hard to agree with your dog whistle point. Is it really a dog whistle if everyone hears it? Then it is just a whistle.
