Hi all, just posted a question I was able to get answer to from superuser.com, it's to do with keyboard inputs, so not ubuntu specific https://askubuntu.com/questions/1470148/how-can-i-produce-a-backslash-on-a-lenovo-x260-keyboard

Better to delete it or post a link to superuser.com and summary of the solution for completeness here?

What's objectionable about the limits of "chance" between 0-100 being inclusive?

Jul 6, 2022 11:24
@VLAZ "on average, rolling a d6 six times would give you 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 in any order", yes, but a single occurrence of throwing it, the odds of that are (6/6 * 5/6 * 4/6 * 3/6 * 2/6 * 1/6) ≈ 0.14. Laws of Large Numbers aside, the point is that the probability of nd6 is not the same as nc6 (without reshuffling).
Jul 6, 2022 11:24
@VLAZ "Is each result not equally likely?" one a single roll, yes. With large numbers, yes, but actually no. Probability is very strange with large numbers, because you take a single sample and don't roll infinityd6. With a fair coin, not only can you skew to heads or tails, you are more likely to. demonstrations.wolfram.com/… on a run of this, at points a fair coin looks like 0.3,0.7 as opposed to 0.5,0.5. 600c6 will always have a perfect distribution which doesn't map to what occurs with independent 600d6 rolls.
Jul 6, 2022 11:24
@VLAZ, intuitively it's like pre-rolling a bunch of dice results, in fact, it isn't. Because 1 draw picking the nth card from anywhere in the deck (let's call this 1c6) gives you an equal chance of 1-6. But once you draw again from that deck, the "roll" is no longer independent. If you roll 53 1d6, then roll a 1d6, the odds are 1/6,1/6,1/6,1/6,1/6,1/6. If you "roll" 53 1c6, the final card can only be a single number, so the odds are 1,0,0,0,0,0.
Jul 6, 2022 11:24
The distinction is that a question about 2d6 via cards can be answered with an objective answer based on statistics, the other is answered based what you find acceptable for your adaption.
Jul 6, 2022 11:24
Then this question isn't about mapping a deck of cards to 2d6, this question is about how to use cards to make a random decision as part of your own LARP adaption of Urban Shadows.

Done. Thank you @AncientSwordRage

@AncientSwordRage, sorry, under the question that that answer's for

Morning all, The comments under rpg.stackexchange.com/questions/199700/… have descended into an extended discussion (to which I've been a part of) Not sure whether it needs cleaning up.
Feb 18, 2021 21:44
I think I edited it while they were writing the answer. So it was a fair answer when it was submitted.
Feb 18, 2021 21:41
I agree, but it wasn't very long after the edit. And it answers a seperate question that's useful for me and would be useful for people running Satyrs through CoS
Feb 18, 2021 21:32
@ThomasMarkov it was. I was trying to avoid it being an XY issue, but I think I've really got two questions. 1) How would Barovians respond to Satyrs and 2) How would they respond to Mongrelfolk, so have aligned the extant question to make the answer fit and will ask the second question as a new one.
Feb 18, 2021 21:25
I've rolled the question edit back so the question and answer match
Feb 18, 2021 21:20
There's a good answer from Rykara for the original question, but to prevent it from being an XY question, is it worth editing it back to be focused in Satyrs and ask a new question about mongrelfolk in general?

Evening all.
Aug 11, 2020 11:10
It turns out the section of the DMG about creating and modifying NPCs/Monsters has a bunch of information that answers my questions about modifying a monster and is relevant to them! Who knew?!
Aug 11, 2020 11:09
Added some more references to what the balance issues should be.
Aug 11, 2020 11:08
Aug 11, 2020 10:51
@V2Blast @Someone_Evil I've added some more to one of the answers including some references to where in the DMG the relevant details are, so it feels like a good and useful answer to the specific issue of each NPC type and the process of creating monsters in general rpg.stackexchange.com/a/174223/3819
Aug 11, 2020 09:07
Thank you. Yeah, without any more information from the downvoter I couldn't see an issue. It's a short question and I've framechallenged it myself in an answer. Yeah, it felt like a noise downvote, but didn't want to blithely carry on if it was a blindspot for me.
Aug 11, 2020 09:01
Got a downvote on https://rpg.stackexchange.com/questions/174191/does-adding-multiple-skills-when-combining-creatures-cause-balance-issues

Is there anything that should be improved on the question?

Right! It's super useful, when I'm writing stuff since it reminds me that no-one else can have the context and confirmation bias that I have to confirm my writing if it's ambiguous.
Jun 21, 2020 13:08
I'm put in mind of xkcd.com/1984 :)
Jun 21, 2020 13:08
I'll ask another question about what happened to that cat god because it's in 3e and 4e and not 5e.
Jun 21, 2020 13:08
Cool, will remove the part about the cat god, and make it specific just to canine gods
Jun 21, 2020 13:06
I can labour the point that "there's a specific god for felines, is there a similar god for canines, not that feline god, I'm not asking about that god, I'm asking about canine gods like the title and summary of the question states."
Jun 21, 2020 13:05
I'm surprised it was closed
Jun 21, 2020 13:04
It's pretty clear to me, based on the final sentence and the title of the question that I'm asking about canine gods specifically.
Jun 21, 2020 13:03
https://rpg.stackexchange.com/questions/170742/are-there-any-canine-gods-in-the-forgotten-realms-pantheon

What specifically should change in this question for it to be reopened?

May 13, 2020 08:47
@carcer yes, it looks like a form to capture all of that
May 13, 2020 08:46
@linksassin you're absolutely right, it could easily be put in place and be ineffective, if people don't use it well
May 13, 2020 08:45
@BESW perfect, it was the consent in gaming checklist. Thank you.
May 13, 2020 08:45
One of my players faints at blood, so want to make sure I don't set him off.
May 13, 2020 08:43
@linkassin Oh for sure, some people could easily miss the point and rules lawyer that list. But there was a good intro about it to mitigate that, so it wasn't toothless or right on
May 13, 2020 08:39
@linksassin yeah, if the DM is being childish about it. I keep my games edge-free because exploring those themes can be worthy, but the writing needs tact and thought that you can't really get with improv
May 13, 2020 08:38
@Carcer similar to that, it was linked off of an article, it had a phrase that "the default was no" and "you don't have to explain why it's no"
May 13, 2020 08:35
It was like getting the presets for people's x-cards
May 13, 2020 08:35
no, it was explicitly for content types, whether romance would be set to fade to black, blood, vomit, gaslighting
May 13, 2020 08:34
It reminded me of the X-card posts
May 13, 2020 08:34
My google-fu is failing me to try to find a copy of a sheet that had a whole list of content topics that had a red, yellow, green check boxes for whether people were happy with them, but can't find it again.
May 13, 2020 08:33
Hope everyone's safe and well
