I tried my best to explain, but it looks like I failed to explain well enough. I suspect if we were talking in real life I could do a much better job of communicating it.

People do not like to say why they downvoted because they do not want to deal with a confrontation. They have voiced that they did not find that answer helpful or useful and have moved on. So do not be surprised if you do not get responses as to why people are down voting.
Jun 30 18:41
That is sadly true in some cases...
Jun 30 18:38
No they need to run their neighbor in real life to let them know their house is on fire, not some person on the internet that their house is on fire
Jun 30 18:37
As for the IANAL part, the good IANAL answers will show why the situation is messy and the person really needs a lawyer.
Jun 30 18:36
You are looking at the wrong definition of community. As an online community we are here for a common goal, not as a social safety net. With that said, there are times when there are fires in questions that need to be addressed like there is here, but the best advice for these types of fires, is to call the fire department and let them do their thing rather than telling them how they can put the fire out itself. There are some fires that are small enough that sure, but when the word suicide is dropped, that is no small word.

You are putting words in my mouth. This is the workplace SE community so answers should be geared towards workplace centric answers. How are you coming to the conclusion that I said 'any "SE Community" is and has always been a misrepresentation, a marketing ploy'?
Jun 30 18:36
The question was asking for interview tips, not job searching tips. Also mental health advice is out of scope of this stack and best left to the professionals, hence why the other answers only refer to getting help rather than try to give it. It is similar to why you will see in answers that say consult with a lawyer rather than give legal advice.

A metaphor might help to get the Christianity POV across. Imagine you had a great x5 grand father who you believe to be a hero, but some people say he was a crazy lunatic, and others say he was a bold face liar. If given a chance to find out conclusively if he was all he claimed to be or not, would provide a type of closure.
May 19 19:30
The joke atheist answer to this question would be so that you could change history to stop Jesus from being crucified to prevent Christianity from even forming.

VTC: Too broad. I count five questions here, with the third one on lasers being a dupe of worldbuilding.stackexchange.com/q/58944/21704

On the topic of the warranty, getting an extra two weeks on a 1 year warranty is a bonus. If your computer required warranty work 1 day after the warranty expired, they can point out they already gave you two extra weeks of a grace period so they are fully justified in not covering it.

On my program we have 3 programming languages, 2 script languages, javascript, lots and lots of frameworks and third party tools. The fact your project only has four is a actually a huge positive.

I assume that a creative solution like making this person work from home is not available?

This answer misses the point of the sex offender registry. The point is not to black list a person so that they never are able to hold a job for the rest of their life but to ensure that companies and organizations that work with children and vulnerable people do not hire these predators.

If I was going to do this, I would put in conditionals in the resignation. Like: "As per our phone call I am prepared to resign on X date if I am granted 2 months salary plus gratuity of Y amount of currency". That way I had something after giving up my rights.

The big thing is can you learn? Which you have spent years learning theoretical stuff. This is proof that you can learn more/new stuff. Which even after being in my profession for 15 years I am still expected to be learning stuff.
Aug 31, 2023 14:55
@jeljel You under estimate the level of ignorance and ineptitude in the work force. The fact you know what a circuit is and know how much you don't know about circuits already puts you above a large percentage of the population. When I started my first job I thought I knew stuff, turned out I had a lot to learn.
Aug 31, 2023 13:57
At the least it is good practice for when you land the interview you do care about, and you never know that awful job might not sound as bad once you start talking to them. Interviewing is a two way street, you are evaluating them too.
Aug 31, 2023 13:56
@jeljel it is not your degree you are trying to sell, it is you. I normally do not recommend this, but for you, if you looked at working with a recruiter? They can help review your resume to make sure it is communicating only the best about you (even if you think it does not reflect who you truly are). Then from there apply to a variety of jobs even ones you think you will hate. If you get an interview with a job you know you will hate still go to the interview and give it your best.

And my first job out of college was nothing like what I wanted to work on and seriously thought about not taking it. Turned out it was the best possible job I could have ever hoped for.
Aug 31, 2023 11:42
should note*
Aug 31, 2023 11:42
And I should not I had no idea in college I was capable of doing data analysis and had no exposure to it. My first job I was given an initial small exposure to it and from there I and my leaders above me realized that I had potential there and though I was a software engineer I was assigned to work with the data analysts.
Aug 31, 2023 11:38
For me it was data analysis. The ability to look at data coming out of a software process and spot patterns in it and determine that there is a bug impacting a small percentage of the data being processed
Aug 31, 2023 11:34
I only had a bachelors degree
Aug 31, 2023 11:34
I cannot deny there being some luck that got there as fast as I did, it should have taken me 12 years to get it.
Aug 31, 2023 11:31
It took me 9 years to reach that level
Aug 31, 2023 11:29
At level 5 I would have been expected to no longer be doing hands on software development but leading the technical design for an entire program and thus spend most of my time in meetings discussing stuff. So I choose to make less money doing what I loved and thus I have now hit a self imposed dead end, and thus between now and when I eventually retire I will never see a promotion ever again, and I am happy.
Aug 31, 2023 11:27
And as far as dead end careers go, I have technically hit my dead end of jobs. I am a level 4 software engineer, and had the option to be promoted make more money by becoming a level 5 software engineer. I declined the promotion

Aug 31, 2023 11:25
Until you get that looming thing that is darkening your view on everything out of the way it will taint your view on careers and work.
Aug 31, 2023 11:24
In that case the biggest priority I would recommend for you would be to find a community you can be a part of, find a mentor who can give you some good advice, or find a professional to talk to about your view on life.
Aug 31, 2023 11:21
Back to what I said earlier about Testers, they make above average salaries, and my current manager was a former tester. I also know many people who their degree versus career path was and still is all over the place.
Aug 31, 2023 11:18
The reason that teachers made that list was not because they made a lot of money, but they had the discipline to follow a plan and live within their means. Choosing a job for its earning potential will lead you to being miserable which will directly hurt your ability to make money
Aug 31, 2023 11:17
There is more to life than making lots of money. The best way to make lots of money is to do what you love and live within your means. There was a study of millionaires and in the list of the five most common jobs, teacher was in it.
Aug 30, 2023 12:06
@Nobody. I don't know. I have interact with people in real life who are going through various challenges and have had this type of negative outlook towards everything. On the other hand carefully looking at how the responses, there are some oddities with the structure that would make more sense if they were generated by a chatGPT (for example the early usage of / rather than ").
Aug 29, 2023 21:24
@jeljel my recommendation would be to compromise and being willing to settle for a moderately skilled position that pays moderately well. Since you mentioned you have exposure to EE but consider yourself inept at it, then what about jobs that are adjacent to it that require familiarity with EE but not as much skill with it? For example a Hardware QA Tester. Testing positions do not tend to pay as well as engineer positions, but their skill set requirements are not as harsh. Also in the world of testing ineptitude can sometimes result in creative testing.
Aug 29, 2023 21:24
Note that easy and high paying are inherent contradictions in the work force. If a job was easy and high paying then lots of people would flock to it, at which point the employer can and would reduce the pay to match the excessive supply of people wanting to do the job. As such all high paying jobs have some kind of gotcha to them. Whether it is skill, connections, luck, risk (up to and including loss of one's own life), grueling overtime, repulsiveness, or something else.
Aug 29, 2023 21:24
Startups are very challenging and far from easy. Not to mention you would need social skills to go into a bank and convince them that your new business is a good investment.

@TexasMama0616 The employee that moved to Florida was lucky, they could have easily been fired for not mentioning the move. Employers need to know which state their employees are conducting their work in so that they can comply with the labor laws of that state. This is why some companies will not let their employees work remotely from certain states.

not having to worry about the next generation is a very beneficial thing, but you still want the best soldiers possible so that you are getting the most for the ridiculous amount of money you are spending on them.
Feb 24, 2023 19:58
and if a country can afford to field additional people as soldiers than it should choose whatever the best people are to fulfill the role as soldiers, so the question goes back to what technology renders the combat differences between male and female mute
Feb 24, 2023 19:54
Only if your society can afford to field those additional people as soldiers.
Feb 24, 2023 19:49
Note the question is about technology level not generic what factors would a mixed gender military be at a disadvantage
Feb 24, 2023 19:48
I can grab 100 people in my office and call them fighter pilots on paper. Does not mean they now have fighters nor the training on how to use them.
Feb 24, 2023 19:47
Human bodies is rarely the limiting factor. It is the resources and equipment needed to make them effective soldiers
Feb 24, 2023 19:46
soldiers are very expensive
Feb 24, 2023 19:46
and if a country decided to ignore their starting resource limitation and field extra soldiers in the form of extra women then they would actually be hurting themselves since they would not have the resources to sustain it
Feb 24, 2023 19:45
And I am saying that if countries are operating with equal starting resources, then that means they both will be starting with equal number of soldiers
Feb 24, 2023 19:44
I am not, the question is about achieving 50/50 gender balance in the military without losing any military effectiveness
