@TobiasShuxueLaoshi So you started out with it because u weren't that good at maths? Because thats basically my reason for thinking about it
Dec 12, 2016 15:19
@TobiasShuxueLaoshi What was the reason you first choose CS if you liked math much more?
Dec 12, 2016 15:14
@TobiasShuxueLaoshi KTH must be much better than were im currently at, Linnéuniversitetet
Dec 12, 2016 15:12
@TobiasShuxueLaoshi Do you study here in Sweden?
Dec 12, 2016 15:12
@TobiasShuxueLaoshi Nice to make some Swedish mathematician contacts :)
Dec 12, 2016 15:07
@TobiasShuxueLaoshi Ah, i've replied to your e-mail. We can talk there no problems. Were cunfused by your last name there and on your email account.
Dec 12, 2016 15:05
@TobiasShuxueLaoshi Were you the guy emailing me? :)
Dec 12, 2016 15:04
@TobiasShuxueLaoshi Yea im swedish! Vet inte om det är rätt val, måste tänka igenom det mer antar jag.
Dec 12, 2016 14:04
@TobiasShuxueLaoshi Whats grad school? Like for bachelor degree?
Dec 12, 2016 13:53
The choice of switching is hard because all my friends and family says its a bad idea mainly becayse of limited jobs
Dec 12, 2016 13:51
programming is what brought me to CS but the main part i always liked within programming was problem solving and i feel i get to work more with problem solving in maths than in CS
Dec 12, 2016 13:48
How is a life in academia then? Do you even get paid for research? At my Uni researchers doesn't get paid and have to educate students for cash
Dec 12, 2016 13:47
@TobiasKildetoft @AntonioVargas What made you guys stay in academia? Also how hard would it to later with a degree in math get into something like finance?
Dec 12, 2016 13:46
@TobiasShuxueLaoshi Thats something i've wanted to hear for quite some time. Thanks. What kinds of jobs exist for peoples with math degrees?
Dec 12, 2016 13:43
@AntonioVargas @TobiasKildetoft Would someone with a masters in pure Math have problems with jobs later on or how does it work?
Dec 12, 2016 13:42
Sure but i've found a bigger interest for math than CS, thats why i want to switch
Dec 12, 2016 13:42
@TobiasKildetoft Reason for asking is that im thinking hard about switching my major from computer science to math
Dec 12, 2016 13:40
Is there jobs in mathematics ?
Dec 11, 2016 08:17
Hello guys, whats up
Dec 6, 2016 12:29
so i wouldnt know
Dec 6, 2016 12:29
@AntonioVargas i rarely read fiction books or novels
Dec 6, 2016 12:28
@AntonioVargas Sure i've heard of him, didnt know that he wrote horror novels though
Dec 6, 2016 12:27
@AntonioVargas haha didnt even know those existed. Are they even scary?
Dec 6, 2016 12:25
@AntonioVargas Do you have any books you recomend me to read before bed or something like that ?
Dec 6, 2016 12:20
how many hours a day did you spend on average when you were new to math? @AntonioVargas @robjohn
Dec 6, 2016 12:11
But as i've mentioned i kinda want to switch from computer science since i feel that math is more of a challenge for me
Dec 6, 2016 12:10
Im a computer science major so so far i have had an introductionary course for computer scientists, it is mostly discrete maths.
Dec 6, 2016 12:08
@robjohn i wana become good at math but i get knocked down soo frequently
Dec 6, 2016 12:08
@robjohn I feel like thats what ive been doing so far but everytime i face a new problem im just left clueless
Dec 6, 2016 12:07
I dont even know what im after anymore..
Dec 6, 2016 12:03
@AntonioVargas Im talking about $\frac{n(n+1)}{2}$ for arithmetic sum for example
Dec 6, 2016 12:02
@AntonioVargas For example in induction there is formulas to solve arithmetic sums and geometric sums, is it really about memorizing theese kind of things?
Dec 6, 2016 11:57
@AntonioVargas But it feels like if i already know how to solve it it is not a problem. I dont like that i have to memorize it all if you know what im saying
Dec 6, 2016 11:00
I want to switch majors to math but i cannot even solve problems like theese $\sum^{n}_{k=1} k3^k = \frac{3(2n3^n - 3^n + 1)}{4}$
Dec 6, 2016 09:34
@Brody later man, good luck
Dec 6, 2016 08:59
Why start studying so late ?
Dec 6, 2016 08:07
There is something i do not quite understand when it comes to learning math. There are problems were you just have to find connections and i can't understand how to do all of those connections. For example look at this question: http://math.stackexchange.com/questions/294213/prove-that-13-23-n3-1-2-n2

You can use the $(a+b^2)$ relation or the mean value of the first and last item in the sum.
Nov 30, 2016 21:26
@TedShifrin im mostly interested in Math over CS since i dont understand it as well as CS. I have worked as a programmer for 1 year now before starting my university studied.
Nov 30, 2016 21:25
@TedShifrin I would have to study both programs at once. I am going to try it after new years since i applied for all courses for both Math and CS, will be challenging but interesting
Nov 30, 2016 21:24
I am actually thinking about switching majors from Computer Science to math because i feel it is more interesting for me
Nov 30, 2016 21:23
@TedShifrin Always fun with math ;)
Nov 30, 2016 21:23
I think i got it then. Thanks to the both of you! @Brody @TedShifrin
Nov 30, 2016 21:21
It has to be the latter @Brody
Nov 30, 2016 21:18
@TedShifrin So basically we are using division laws $q = n * p$
Nov 30, 2016 21:17
@Brody That is what i've done so farm but i was not sure it was right since it doesnt really answer the quetsion in my oppinion.
Nov 30, 2016 21:12
@Brody The exact task translated to english is as follows: "Write an application called Play123Main that lays the solitaire 1-2-3 10.000 times and then calculates the probability (%) for the solitaire to win."
Nov 30, 2016 21:10
@Brody Could you mention what more information i would need in order to calculate it? Im interested in learning.
Nov 30, 2016 21:08
@TedShifrin That is the part that confuses me. I did wrote 87/10.000 but it doesnt solve the question. Its just the win ratio not the probability to win one game.
Nov 30, 2016 21:05
@Brody I need to get the probability in % to win. And my record is 87 wins and 10000 games played.
Nov 30, 2016 21:03
Could someone help me with this math question?
