@rdtsc And it took me years to notice the word "galvanic isolation" comes from Luigi Galvani. It seems to be one of those surviving old-fashioned words that is still being used.

"Tension" is the outdated technical term for "voltage" in English, but many other languages translated "tension" long before English started to use "voltage", so they still called it "tension". Similarity, a "capacitor" is still called a "condenser" in lots of languages.
