It's not an answer to the question per se but you can watch several old emergency broadcasts that would have been put onto tv or radio in the event of nuclear war. They are pretty scary, but they stress specifically that you are safer inside of your house out of view of windows (they will shatter) and the best thing you can do in the moments before is to fill up as much fresh water bottles as you can. I assume the governments involved calculated that advice to maximize survival chance.

@Quassnoi in some dialects it is still used that way. For example in northern england, where I'm from, people will use dear to refer to price. Example: "Go and buy us some apples, and also some strawberries if they're not too dear"

Have you told him that this behavior concerns you? I personally would be fine with people doing this to commit in my name, especially if it prevents others making changes to key parts of the code.
