An election is coming
The moderation team has already (prior to this Meta at least) been in discussions with the CM team and has determined that the team would like an election. I believe an official announcement to that effect should be coming soon, with additional details.
Perhaps this would help guide this discussion a bit more productively: does it help to know that the mod team talked with CMs and have already scheduled an election for RPG?
And of course that is speaking only for me. Fellow moderators were spending varying amounts of time, none trivial, on the issue (so not discounting their work at all).
@NautArch I might take issue with the "nothing" characterization. Speaking individually, I spent weeks working on the issues of "system guessing" which I am assuming is one of the things you are talking about. Composing metas. Writing answers to metas, having private, semi-private, and public discussions with many groups and individuals trying to reach the light at the end of the tunnnel. And TBH those attempts (combined with a bunch of IRL stuff) probably lead me to be burned out and step away.
@ThomasMarkov I guess I was just trying to address Naut's point of comparison of the past and trying to clarify that. I absolutely am not trying to discount or change how anybody feels.
@NautArch Right, but I was just clarifying a point that you might be looking at previous moderation teams with somewhat rose-tinted classes. Just from what I am hearing here if you are suggesting that more visible leadership resulted in less site issues. I guess it is very hard to discuss without considering the specifics of your concerns though. No doubt you have some things specifically in mind.
@NautArch Not trying to abdicate responsibility or anything (if there is even any to apportion), but it is worth remembering that there have always been contentious issues on the site even going way back to times where you perceive leadership has been more visible. Inclusing some issues that have never died and continue to haunt us.
