@V2Blast I'm not sure that teenagers, particularly when driving, have a minimum safe distance.
Mar 27 16:00
@JohnP As another metric, there are starred posts in the sidebar from last July.
Mar 14 14:43
Bah, looks like my first link above didn't have a space between it and the word "but", and it's too late to fix. adventofcode.com/2017/day/11
Mar 14 13:59
@GcL Yes, I recognize this site from one of the old Advent of Code puzzles. Probably this one: adventofcode.com/2017/day/11but maybe this one adventofcode.com/2020/day/24
Dec 22, 2024 02:29
And also, congratulations!

As often happens, people slowly drifted in and out; somewhere along the line we lost critical mass and now it's mostly drifting out.
Sep 23, 2024 17:14
@Xirema Relatedly, what classes would be interested in those combinations of three boosts, assuming the character takes one point in each?
Aug 20, 2024 13:28
@ThomasMarkov I think this question would need to be more specific, given that we still have users that don't realize there are multiple editions of D&D.
Jul 18, 2024 01:33
@Joshua Sure, assuming the DM allows cantrips to be cast 4800 times in a row and still count as a long rest. Wouldn't be able to do that sleeping, though, so you'd need at least one friend to do that for you as well.
Jul 16, 2024 15:27
@Allure The DM might also rule that it's not possible to take a long rest if you're not safe enough, including from environmental effects.
Jul 10, 2024 18:01
@ThomasMarkov That's no good; you'll just confuse everyone. How will we know which users we can trust if we can't tell them apart?!
Apr 12, 2024 12:17
@bobismijnnaam I'm not familiar with the sheep chase adventure, but "magical college" makes me immediately think of Strixhaven. If you haven't stumbled on that yet, it should be helpful.
Apr 10, 2024 04:06
I guess I should have provided more context on my Roll20 question. I suspect that trusting it made my answer here incorrect, but I haven't had bandwidth to confirm that and rework the answer. rpg.stackexchange.com/a/211174/28580
Apr 7, 2024 04:01
Is Roll20 faithful SRD material, specifically around spells? My book's entry for find familiar doesn't specify a target, but the site does. I know the book doesn't get errata pushed to it, but I don't see changes to find familiar in the errata document I found. Could it be an assumption the Roll20 folks made?
Nov 8, 2023 14:19
@VLAZ Without reading the text, I'd assume you could choose which spell you wanted to keep concentration on.
Nov 8, 2023 14:18
Given the idea that combat meaningfully lasts around 3 rounds and maybe a few cleanup rounds, I'm not sure that Thomas' idea will change all that much. But maybe your combats tend to run six or more rounds normally, in which case it would start to matter more.
Nov 8, 2023 14:17
Concentration itself in 5e is inherently a debuff compared to previous editions, because it means you can only keep up one good buff at a time.
Oct 25, 2023 02:32
@DannyuNDos That rather depends on the age category of the dragon (as well as the humans in question).
Oct 22, 2023 03:56
@V2Blast <3 :-(
Jun 22, 2023 21:10
@Trish Does the strike cover chat as well, or is it just a side effect of not having the usual moderation issues to discuss? I've been out of the loop for a while, and only just learned about the strike.
Apr 29, 2023 14:16
Overall, that reminds me of the 4e view of "every class just consists of a different bag of Powers, all of which work in this way".
Apr 29, 2023 14:12
@Adeptus So it's possible to counterspell a class feature? I guess that would depend on what the feature is, but it sure sounds weird.
Apr 27, 2023 21:21
Oh no. Warlocks have been endurance casters since at least 3.5; why would they change that to half caster?
Apr 17, 2023 11:45
@Adeptus You can't stop people from using a platform for something it's not suited for, such as 20+ message "microblogs" on Twitter.
Apr 17, 2023 03:13
The only question I clearly recall asking was about .NET reflection.
Apr 17, 2023 03:12
I don't think I even have access to that alt account anymore, as it was for work at a previous job.
Apr 17, 2023 03:08
I don't recall having that problem, but I've only asked there a handful of times and that was years ago.
Apr 11, 2023 17:28
@BESW I happen to be reading Fifth Season now, so I'll have to look into this later.
Apr 7, 2023 21:21
On the other hand, I don't think it's going to be especially relevant, given that it's checks calendar 2023.
Apr 7, 2023 21:09
@ThomasMarkov I think those are technically different in early editions of D&D.
Apr 6, 2023 12:18
@Matthieu Turning limits actions to Dash and countering stuff that limits your movement (or Dodge if you're stuck); I don't think you can Ready.
Apr 6, 2023 12:10
There's also grey area around "willing movement" and multiple paths away from the caster.
Apr 6, 2023 12:03
Maybe teleporting would count?
Apr 6, 2023 12:02
@Matthieu Your movement, but not your action, so Dashing?
Apr 5, 2023 22:37
In many ways, it's a streamlined version of 3.5
Apr 5, 2023 22:00
Obvious question: what about 5e?
Apr 5, 2023 21:31
It also emphasizes story beats over dice rolling combats, which you may or may not think is an advantage.
Apr 5, 2023 21:30
I find Dungeon World to have a good amount of the D&D flavor and customization options without the raw number crunching. Disclaimer: DW is one of my favorite systems.
Apr 5, 2023 21:28
If you want a political intrigue or slice of life game, and you pick a system where most or all of the character description is defined by how to kill or hurt others, you'll have a bad time or mostly ignore the system.
Apr 5, 2023 21:26
You could also try and reverse engineer session 0 tools like Same Page, and try to figure out what system best supports the gameplay experience you both want (or at least can agree to).
Apr 5, 2023 21:23
Maybe 3.5 is good because it gives the player a ton of customization options, so you can use that net-shield combo. Or maybe it's the satisfying crunch of big numbers.
Apr 5, 2023 21:23
@Zachiel Ok, but 3.5 is a large system. What does your friend like about it, specifically? Also consider self-assessing on the 8 Kinds of Fun, and/or assessing each other. That might help you clarify what kind of system you're looking for.
Mar 31, 2023 16:55
@NautArch PbtA is weird to get into if you're mostly familiar with D&D, but if your idea of fun is more about story beats than moving around minis, rolling dice, and optimization problems, then I recommend people try it.
Mar 22, 2023 03:43
I'd recommend self-answering, as now you've (apparently) tried a solution and reached a satisfactory conclusion. That puts you in a good position to respond to past-you's situation. To acknowledge the help of others, I'd suggest adding explicit references to their answers in your own.
Be sure to add content on top of their answers or yours will be received poorly as a duplicate answer. Talk about what worked and what didn't, including tangential stuff like how the party received it or any real life social hiccups involved.
Mar 18, 2023 14:33
My wife and I have recently enjoyed the RPG board game Call to Adventure (Stormlight Archive edition). You build a story for your character by starting with an Origin card and a Motivation card, and eventually revealing a Destiny card. You choose Adventure cards to attempt, and your story evolves depending on whether you succeed or fail at each adventure. Roughly 30 minutes to play, and took us another 30 minutes or so to figure out the rules.

"(not that there would be any active magic presenting itself there)" This brings up an interesting side question. Effects from artifacts and deities can exist in an antimagic field, as a special exception. Would they be detectable with detect magic?

Nov 13, 2024 09:15
This answer could be improved in two ways. First, consider adding in "roadblock 0", which presumably would be to secure a major party's nomination. Second, regarding "other countries" replacing their constitutions at the end, it has already happened in the United States when the current Constitution replaced the Articles of Confederation.

Aug 27, 2024 03:54
@ThomasMarkov My apologies. I saw your diamond in chat, and jumped to the wrong conclusion. I think the rest of the point stands.
Aug 27, 2024 03:54
@AmethystWizard I would like to point out that RPG.SE is a relatively small site, averaging only a few questions a day. Thomas has been a very active user for several years, and also a moderator. I'd assume he reads nearly everything posted to this site, as he's the #4 user so far this year. He is not "following [you] around", he's a big fish in a small pond.

@swisshead For many consultants/contractors, $40 is about half an hour of time. I suspect you'd be much better off posting here or to sister sites like codereview.stackexchange.com
