@Chopper3 Here's another one in the same vein: serverfault.com/questions/305732/…
Aug 28, 2011 08:04
Actually, if you feel like dupe-closing at anything, might I suggest 48808? (That my answer is the accepted one is coincidental, I assure you)
Aug 28, 2011 08:03
Pity that the "accepted" answer on that question is so mind-bogglingly retarded.
Aug 28, 2011 08:02
@Zoredache Dupe close storm? Find anything that has an answer that includes ProxyCommand and close them as dupes of 91116?
Aug 28, 2011 07:21
@Iain I've done my bit. <grin>
Aug 28, 2011 07:17
Is it worth sending something this old to SU?
Aug 28, 2011 06:11
That's one bad case of blueballs.
Aug 28, 2011 05:59
Speaking of puppy kicking, this question seems like a born target...
Aug 28, 2011 05:56
I should probably feel sorry for this bloke except... I don't.
Aug 27, 2011 23:03
@Iain I should put up something on Freelancer... "edit these posts to remove 'thanks in advance'", give them my login, and boom! I'm done.
Aug 27, 2011 23:01
3,074? Enough for everyone!
Aug 27, 2011 22:59
@Iain But... but... how would I get my CE badge?
Aug 27, 2011 22:59
@BenPilbrow Done and done. @sysadmin1138 to the white courtesy banhammer...
Aug 27, 2011 22:57
@sysadmin1138 As far as I'm concerned, if avoiding spamming the front page was a concern, then they'd implement a "trivial edit" checkbox for high-rep users and mods.
Aug 27, 2011 22:54
@sysadmin1138 That'd explain why I've found very few old questions with no answers on them.
Aug 27, 2011 22:50
@Iain Hmm, haven't been doing that. Probably should. I've been on a campaign to get the "unanswered questions" list down... either find a good answer and upvote it, or write an answer and hope someone else upvotes it.
Aug 27, 2011 22:49
W00t! 208. Off to buy bacon for breakfast.
Aug 27, 2011 22:48
@Iain I find the "unanswered questions" which have lots of answers on them to be chock full of crap.
Aug 27, 2011 22:43
@MarkM Up to 500, you get 10 FW for every valid flag. After that the points award changes and it's an exponentially decreasing curve to 750.
Aug 27, 2011 22:42
@Iain Monday -- tomorrow I start; "completely absorbed" might take a little longer.
Aug 27, 2011 22:39
@Iain So, I'll leave the "first to get Marshal" to you (I'll even send you crap I find in old questions to flag, if you'd like), and you can upvote a couple of my answers to help me along the way to "First to get Legendary"... <grin>
Aug 27, 2011 22:36
@sysadmin1138 But that's because SO is far more full of shit.
Aug 27, 2011 22:36
@Iain Yeah, that's what I meant... and I got 13 FW for about 10 flags yesterday (at 613FW now)... and if it gets exponentially harder as you get closer to the limit... hot damn that's a lot of flags. I'll just go edit more posts to get my gold badge.
Aug 27, 2011 22:34
@Iain 749 FW? Hot damn... it's a hard limit of 750, isn't it?
Aug 27, 2011 22:27
C'mon you weekend people, I need a softball question... Papa needs his 22 rep...
Aug 27, 2011 22:26
@Iain Howdee!
Aug 27, 2011 22:24
@MarkM You don't have a mintyboost and a big pile of batteries?
Aug 27, 2011 05:57
Awwww, we've gone from valid/invalid flags to helpful/declined flags. GROUP HUG!
Aug 27, 2011 03:59
@quux So what, then, is your explanation for why there isn't a single objective answer to the question "should I run AV on my Windows server"?
Aug 27, 2011 03:58
I use the term "subjective risk assessment" to differentiate it from the (far more valuable, but commonly not possible) "objective risk assessment", where you can easily quantify and analyse hazards, risks, and outcomes.
Aug 27, 2011 03:57
The fact that reasonable people have different opinions on the subjects suggests that there aren't objective reasons. Arguments that make sense to you aren't "objective reasons", they just resonate with you.
Aug 27, 2011 03:56
Also, whether or not you do it (AV or all-root) comes down to your own, very subjective, risk assessment.
Aug 27, 2011 03:55
I happen to believe that AV on a Windows server is probably a mighty fine idea.
Aug 27, 2011 03:55
No, I'm saying that there is a wide variety of opinions and nobody's got any objective evidence on their side.

Q: Why does $_SERVER['REMOTE_ADDR'] have a value of "127.0.0.1" in local environment?

Q: Ethernet interface number changed, and old one does not exist, but does not leave IP address

SagarI have a virtual machine with Mandriva 2007.0 (yes, old - unfortunately we do not have a choice here). Anyway, the problem: Before reboot: active network interface = eth0. No other interfaces present, and network manager confirms this. Static IP address set to 172.31.2.22. No issues, everything ...
