Droning On

General discussion for drones.stackexchange.com
Apr 28, 2020 21:30
As is the whole topic, though, and I really hope for a revival.
Apr 28, 2020 21:29
FYI, we also have a separate "tag" chat where we could have lengthy discussions without writing hundreds of comments under each post in Meta, though it's somewhat unpopular right now.
Apr 28, 2020 21:28
Tags are indeed one of the things we should get (at least reasonably close to) right as early as possible, so I'd love to see everyone's active participation in the discussion of this topic.
Apr 28, 2020 21:00
welll, congrats everyone
Apr 24, 2020 18:21
okay, the feed is seriously messed up now.
Apr 24, 2020 18:18
//I almost wish there were something else to burninate :)
Apr 24, 2020 18:18
Yeah, it was great!
Apr 24, 2020 18:16
Bye!
Apr 24, 2020 18:16
great!
Apr 24, 2020 18:16
(while it is about an under250 drone, the answer doesn't change either way)
Apr 24, 2020 18:16
@Daniil I'd untag this one if I were you: drones.stackexchange.com/questions/112/…
Apr 24, 2020 18:13
No. Why?
Apr 24, 2020 18:12
so there's no reason to rename the tag, just remove it from questions that aren't really affected by the size of the drone
Apr 24, 2020 18:12
even though they are the minority
Apr 24, 2020 18:12
Not all questions about sub250 are about regulations
Apr 24, 2020 18:11
erm, no
Apr 24, 2020 18:10
context for the rest of the chat: drones.meta.stackexchange.com/a/97/272
Apr 24, 2020 18:08
Although I agree with @Catija's point somewhat, I still think the tag itself is needed, although maybe we need to make a second pass over the questions that have it and remove it from those whose answers aren't affected by the drone being under 250g, i.e. probably most non-legislation questions
Apr 24, 2020 18:01
ah, okay
Apr 24, 2020 17:58
(the other is that as you go on, there's more questions that need your attention and more people who got used to something you now don't want)
Apr 24, 2020 17:57
and that's one of the main reasons to do all the tag related stuff early on
Apr 24, 2020 17:56
it stirs up all of the sediment from the bottom of the feed and confuses people who don't know what the heck is happening
Apr 24, 2020 17:55
@CaptainJ.LPicard yeah, that's the main problem with mass-editing tags after private beta
Apr 24, 2020 17:52
yay
Apr 24, 2020 17:52
apparently we're done
Apr 24, 2020 17:50
ok, great
Apr 24, 2020 17:49
(or rather the long version, )
Apr 24, 2020 17:49
I'd go with RTF
Apr 24, 2020 17:49
the main distinction is whether it's meant to be customizable/rebuildable, or sold as a proprietary, non-modifiable package
Apr 24, 2020 17:48
actually, RTF seems like a good option. almost all of the commercial sealed drones are RTF
Apr 24, 2020 17:48
unfortunately, "prebuilt" includes drones that are DIY-type but built by someone else
Apr 24, 2020 17:47
Apr 24, 2020 17:47
I think such a tag would be very useful, but I'm stuck with the naming.
Apr 24, 2020 17:46
Should we have a tag about drones that are commercially built/storebought/prebuilt/you get it?
Apr 24, 2020 17:46
Okay, one thing I should discuss.
Apr 24, 2020 17:44
erm, I'm just using the "edit tags" function, it doesn't have the option to put in descriptions AFAIK
Apr 24, 2020 17:44
I'd say get rid of the tag on this one entirely (and add more relevant tags probably)
Apr 24, 2020 17:41
I'm going to start with mine as well.
Apr 24, 2020 17:41
Ok, sure
Apr 24, 2020 17:40
ok, let's begin. I'd drop in on the fun as well.
Apr 24, 2020 17:40
Rename it to sub-250g maybe?
Apr 24, 2020 17:39
Did you create the sub-250 tag already?
Apr 24, 2020 17:38
>Make small drones a synonym of sub-250?
Yeah, maybe. If I understand correctly how synonyms work, we'll never see the "small-drones" wording ever again after that, and if anyone starts typing in "small", it will suggest sub-250 instead
Apr 24, 2020 17:37
Aaaand I'm still hoping @Catija or someone else would clarify whether SE has some kind of "restrict tag" functionality so that the tags we just removed couldn't be recreated in the future by some random user.
Apr 24, 2020 17:36
what's your take on it?
Apr 24, 2020 17:36
I'm not quite sure about how to name it
Apr 24, 2020 17:36
wait wait
Apr 24, 2020 17:35
Otherwise, sure.
Apr 24, 2020 17:35
The only thing I'd change is make the sub250 tag first so that it could be used in the retagging.
Apr 24, 2020 17:35
We need to get rid of both, retag the existing questions, and probably add a dedicated sub250 tag.
