10 -> 5 -> 16*
Nov 21, 2024 20:16
I will post it here as I don't know where to go further from here:
Was looking at the 3X+1 conjecture, you can see a pattern when you look at the last digit. Since the conjecture checks even or odd you can look at the pattern formed by the last digit of any number

If a number ends in 3 it will always go to a number that ends with 0 which will loop until division by 2 gives a number ending in 5. this number then will always go to 6. this can then loop creating a pattern:

(...3 -> ...0[*] -> ...5 -> ...6)[...6/2 /= ...8]

What do you guys think of the approach I took here for the conjecture:

(if it is ok with the mod I post this here)

I am likely going to regret asking this here but as this is a chat a discussion can be made about it before it get's deleted

Is there a moderator around?

ok thanks

Was looking for discussion but never mind then as this is a mod chat

loops besides 4-2-1 of course
Nov 8, 2024 13:30
Hey @XanderHenderson has it been mathematically proven that it is impossible for there to be loops on the Conjecture with 100% certainty?
Nov 7, 2024 19:05
@BillDubuque I made the edit you suggested before you deleted for the tag I used
Nov 7, 2024 17:33
That could easily be proven through just looking at history and likely supported by social science but I am not here to prove that but wanted to state a possible reason on why you never saw it before
Nov 7, 2024 17:30
To be fair I wouldn't be surprised if someone did do this but more than likely it was never accepted, more importantly why did no one choose to validate even and odd numbers given that they naturally make up the positive integers, but instead went to prove it converges to 2^k. But that can be discussed elsewhere on here I posted how I came to convergence, if he is going to say it is incorrect even after I given my proof the least he can do is show where
Nov 7, 2024 17:20
I provided my evidence on how I arrived there and the steps, a statement saying I am wrong would then need a reason why which he did not give other then the above you quoted which is not a valid reason as nothing of past can ever be said to 100% be always true in the future
Nov 7, 2024 17:18
"A lot of very smart people have worked on this problem over the last 80 years or so, and none of them found an elementary proof that could fit on a single page. If they couldn't do it, there is no reason to believe that you have." that is stating it, in short it is saying if people of the past couldn't then no reason to believe me or someone in future can't. Although I will say I can't remember the exact word so will assume this is what he originally said.

What I meant by abusive or now as you say blunt was him saying He won't read the "proof" and then said same as above user:
Nov 7, 2024 17:04
@XanderHenderson he said something around the lines "I won't change because of the past mathematicians" I was asking how that was justified it shows he is not open to change which is not an academic response coming from a moderator
Nov 7, 2024 15:42
Ok fair enough but how is he justified by saying "I won't change because of the past", it may not be used to publicize but you can ask how to do something or how was something wrong which I have used the exchange for.
Nov 7, 2024 15:28
If that is the case then I sure hope the decision of deletion is not made by one moderator, to delete and saying "I won't change because of the past" is absurd response by someone who controls the board
Nov 7, 2024 15:25
Nope he said somewhere around the line of I won't read it because previous mathematicians have shown it is not possible, For which I simply replied that the response is not academic to say you won't look because of the past. If I knew he would delete both comments then I would have taken a screenshot but I am sure you can always see what was written even if it is not visible to users which is why I am asking moderators
Nov 7, 2024 15:21
"I can assert you that Shaun and Soumik are in fact, not the same person"

Ok fair enough my assumption was simply based on response being word for word the same
Nov 7, 2024 14:52
I remember what was said (which matches word for word except the deleted part), it seems, the comments get's deleted after closing but I obviously can recall what I replied to
Nov 7, 2024 12:00
I posted here so anyone can answer where I went wrong which is what everyone does, you wrote the same as that user your probably the same account
Nov 7, 2024 11:29
A user was abusive on the comments (the previous comments are deleted after closing) and apparently has ability to close a question, could the action please be reviewed?

@lighthousekeeper There is one activist who promotes female circumcision who's studies and research does not seem to be in any of these journal, although she has only claimed it I have not found any of her research https://www.antropologi.info/blog/anthropology/2010/female-circumcision
There is one report that they all refer to but it was done in Sudan http://umatia.org/2011/safecircumcision.html
Feb 24, 2020 21:48
@AzorAhai There is definitely some suppression, all of the FGM act are practiced by the modern comunity but under different name clitoral unhooding, clitoridotomy, labiaplastey and vaginoplastey all of which have medical benefits and positive feedback whereby non of the studies on the "FGM" cases show this
Feb 19, 2020 15:16
Ok but where are all the studies on FGM conducted by countries and places where it is legal, as they are done in medical environment with sterile equipment and for medical reason. However all research I have ever seen personally or referenced are those that were done where it is illegal and by comparing to existing process; same way as male circumcision research does and shows. If those research can find benefits the one done in the country (where legal) would have much more yet they are no where to bee seen, which is why I am asking here if their are restrictions setup anywhere.
Feb 19, 2020 15:16
Why did it get closed after I gave more detail?
Feb 19, 2020 15:16
@Nate Eldredge I'm not sure what is the correct term or process but any that will not make it unavailable to public so "retracted" should be included. Sorry I trying to understand the process and why I don't see all research.
Feb 19, 2020 15:16
Edited, the question was for all cases but as others have stated it being unclear, I have specified some case and one example
Feb 19, 2020 15:16
Does the law have the ability to remove (if published) based on violation of some legal act?
