You know, the original St Nicholas punched someone in the face at the Council of Nicea. Just an idea for 'Old Nick' to deal with those kids who go from one list to the other every year.

With that much sex you'll probably have a society that is quite obsessed with keeping sex clean and testing people to prevent diseases spread by sex. Also, does getting pregnant prevent the father from dying for 9 months? Or must he find a new mate? This could drastically change ideas about monogamy and family. Also celibacy or being a hermit might be unthinkable or seen as suicidal. Prostitution could be rampant to fill the needs of people who can't get in bed with someone- it may also lose its taboo.

@mg30rg, I suppose I was considering radiation brought on by fallout from nuclear weapons- an asteroid presumably doesn't give off that, does it? I do see your point, at any rate. Huge clouds of dust blotting out the sun, the impact itself and a few other things could dramatically change local and possibly global climate if it was a big enough impact.

@mg30rg, I could see your point. Actually, as part of the history of these planets some nations have turned to other ways of achieving mass destructive power- including finding ways to control the weather to steer hurricanes in a direction they choose and even cause Tsunamis to destroy coastal fortifications preceding an invasion. That perhaps could be more terrifying and inescapable! It would seem that using Asteroids would be the next logical step in a non-nuclear arms race for space faring nations. Besides, I don't think an asteroid would be as environmentally destructive in the long run

This universe is concerned with different worlds orbiting different stars. A few of those are terraformed worlds. Earth has nothing to do with it. Essentially this is a humanity with a different origin and history.

Ok. I removed the answer thing for now, if I see a different answer that is better I will choose that one. Thank you for the advice.

I found all of these answers very helpful, it was hard to choose one, but once I was able to clarify my answer it made the most sense to choose the one about engineering. Thank you all, as each of you gave helpful details to make my universe as I've developed it (and its story) probable without much reworking at all.

Mostly about enginerring details. Two nations have and have used a Thorium Bomb (their nuclear weapon); but they've thus far kept how to make them a secret. All nations can however use Thorium for space flight. So I'm asking if its possible that people can use nuclear technology well for space travel, but lack the understanding for military applications.

Note* This is my first question on the World Building Exchange. I don't believe this is a duplicate of another question asking about weapons, as my question deals strictly with nuclear weaponry. Note 2* In my fantasy world both space travel and nuclear weapons use the element Thorium (regardless of whether it is needed in the real world for such purposes)
