To give you a time frame: In 2003, at a big German university, I still had lectures only using the blackboard or an overhead projector for Chemistry and Maths classes. In 2010, when I graduated with my MSc, I think they had mostly switched to PowerPoint

Also, what's "weird"?

Apr 4, 2016 17:43
@kenorb "5-HTP should work the same as SSRI, they both act on the serotonin pathway." that's a really bold assumption. Especially when saying that 5-HTP acts as an anti-obesity agent, as SSRIs are really well-known for leading to weight gain. Doesn't even matter - something leading to the same outcome as an SSRI does not make it one.
Apr 4, 2016 17:43
@kenorb 5-HTP is not an SSRI. It may have similar effects, I don't know, but it does not fall into the SSRI category.

General discussion for Medical Sciences Stack Exchange: medica...

@Lucky what @Pobrecita said. I have accidentally done the same thing on Biology.SE before
Mar 28, 2016 10:53
:28558979, yeah, of a lot of focus on the married (and kids) aspect, and no mention of anything but HIV
Mar 28, 2016 09:41
@Pobrecita also, nice to see someone new tackle the review queues!
Mar 28, 2016 09:36
@Pobrecita no harm done, just confusion. You also added the "sti" tag so it looked strange in the review queue. The question definitely looks better now than it did when it arrived :-)
Mar 28, 2016 09:33
@Pobrecita gah, I need to remember to ping
Mar 28, 2016 09:33
I think what happened was just that you submitted a second edit while I was hitting "approve and improve" and added the tags.
Mar 28, 2016 09:30
Okay I think we just edited at the same time
Mar 28, 2016 09:20
I am very confused by that last edit...
Mar 28, 2016 09:14
@Pobrecita why are you deleting the HIV tag from a question about transmission of HIV?
Mar 26, 2016 15:33
(than what the OP of that question is used to)
Mar 26, 2016 15:32
"use of candles for lighting" is probably a lot of exposure over a lifetime I guess. I'm also inclined to believe candles from Morocco might even have a different composition? @HDE226868
Mar 26, 2016 15:31
@HDE226868 thanks, I just tried my hand at protecting a question :-)
Mar 26, 2016 12:24
So, I'm new to the whole "protect a question" thing. Would it be a good idea to protect health.stackexchange.com/questions/3405/… four low quality answers (two deleted) from new users so far
Mar 25, 2016 15:10
@FrankyG for what's it worth, the recommendation from my rheumatologist is basically "hot, cold, whatever feels good at the moment" :-)
Mar 25, 2016 15:09
I find the whole idea that hep C is somehow seen as "manageable" and supposedly not that dangerous very strange. I always thought of it as bad and rather likely to lead to liver cirrhosis on its own
Mar 25, 2016 15:08
@JohnP :-D
Mar 21, 2016 19:26
Oh wow, being called a moron and a f*ing dumbass in one comment. Nice ;-)
Mar 1, 2016 09:15
@Susan welcome back? (just saw the diamond)
Feb 16, 2016 14:59
@JohnP huh, for some reason I was convinced you were a mod at Fitness.SE...
Jan 20, 2016 05:38
And of course he's written a new one already....
Jan 20, 2016 05:26
@michaelpri @JohnP my flags about the answers in comments are showing up as helpful, but the comments are still there: health.stackexchange.com/questions/4452/… any reason why you are letting them stand?
Jan 18, 2016 18:18
@michaelpri thanks! The question could probably also do with some deletions of unnecessary stuff, there's a lot of redundant and unrelated stuff in there, but since the OP already believes I am paid by Big Pharma or something I am not going to touch it ;-)
Jan 18, 2016 18:15
But I think gastroenterologists know those procedures aren't popular :-D
Jan 18, 2016 18:14
For an endoscopy, you just need to stop eating 10 hours beforehand, but to get the colon empty... Yeah...
Jan 18, 2016 18:14
And so, so glad I haven't had a colonoscopy. Though the people I know who had one tell me the worst part is the preparation
Jan 18, 2016 18:13
I am so, so glad I was under sedation for my endoscopy
Jan 18, 2016 18:11
@HDE226868 colonoscopy?
Jan 18, 2016 17:54
Okay, the FAQ says questions can't be deleted if they have an upvoted answer. Good.
Jan 18, 2016 17:48
@michaelpri the comments on that one might need some cleanup - I edited the one source from them that was important into my answer
Jan 18, 2016 17:47
Oh wow, I hadn't even noticed the author of health.stackexchange.com/questions/3838/… threatened to delete their question. Can they even do that if it has an answer? I'm a bit worried now, I spent a lot of time on that even if the OP wasn't happy with me
Jan 17, 2016 18:18
Aaaah, right.
Jan 17, 2016 18:13
Huh, did I just get 2 rep from you approving my edit? I thought I didn't get that anymore. But I almost never edit answers...
Jan 17, 2016 18:10
Yep. The higher risk of anaemia and obstetric complications especially. I need to look at that study - women who used to have AN do weigh less all of their lives, though, so some of the problems might be from that.
Jan 17, 2016 18:07
@HDE226868 thanks! That's why I looked it up, basically, because I have no idea what that risk is
Jan 17, 2016 17:48
Those sources are fascinating. I had no idea this could have such long-term effects
Jan 17, 2016 17:47
@HDE226868 mind if I edit your answer to include the study on fracture risk itself? Or feel free to do it yourself: onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/eat.22248/abstract

Mar 23, 2016 08:29
@WYSIWYG I was just providing a link I was asked for here. I have no idea what's currently being discussed here...
Mar 14, 2016 18:03
I probably shouldn't be feeding him, then
Mar 14, 2016 18:01
Hmm, the guy asking the question about complexity of the eye is on a year long suspension from the English Stackexchange
Mar 12, 2016 21:40
@Christiaan well, yours covers a lot more stuff. Three answers in the space of 10 minutes or so have landed the question on the Hot Network Questions, by the way
Mar 12, 2016 21:16
If so, thanks! :-)
Mar 12, 2016 21:15
@Christiaan educated guess - well, I can see the 10, so I'm sure about that. That it might have been my answer is a guess
Mar 12, 2016 20:54
@Christiaan one closer now? ;-)
Jan 27, 2016 05:45
Looking at how many adults crave chocolate and ice cream, I disagree with the premise that adults lose their cravings for sugar. But I don't know enough about the subject :-)
Jan 27, 2016 05:40
Well, I am over 30 and can still eat very sweet things. I have just also learned to eat other things. I don't think children crave sweeter foods than adults, they just need time to learn to eat anything else.
