I did it by hand without any visualizations and got rank 104
Dec 21, 2024 14:52
indeed, it was. It took me ~1h for part 1 and ~1.5h for part 2
Dec 19, 2024 05:23
I used cached recursion for day 11 (the stones that replicate themselves) as well
Dec 19, 2024 05:19
All I needed was to wrap my recursive function in a cache and then it was fast
Dec 19, 2024 05:06
Today felt much easier than a day this close to Christmas should be
Dec 16, 2024 06:27
(ignore me, I was an idiot - my puzle answer is 85 thousand something so that's definitely a coincidence)
Dec 16, 2024 06:25
Which is suspiciously the same as the thousands digit in my puzzle answer
Dec 16, 2024 06:25
Your code overcounts by 8 on my puzzle input
Dec 16, 2024 06:14
1001 points? It's only 1000
Dec 16, 2024 05:54
odd
Dec 16, 2024 05:19
Done 319/247
Dec 15, 2024 05:24
Why did I suddenly global score when I wasn't before? This problem doesn't seem that different from the others.
Dec 15, 2024 05:24
Done 55/32
Dec 14, 2024 05:38
It didn't help that the resulting lineup looked very different from my intuitions about what it would be
Dec 13, 2024 05:59
@emanresuA And a positive integer solution
Dec 13, 2024 05:56
I actually found part 2 interesting once I got it - there's a certain class of problems that trivially have no solution (which annoyingly did not include any of the test data but did include some of the puzzle input), and aside from that I found the approximate magnitude of the number of times each button needs to be pressed and just brute-forced
Dec 13, 2024 05:52
502/2295
Dec 13, 2024 05:52
I knew I could have used some kind of algebra system, but I did an ugly normal approach that took an hour but worked. Sigh.
Dec 12, 2024 18:11
(AoC starts at midnight my time and I usually stay up for it but this was hard enough that I gave up, and then thought of the answer while I was in bed)
Dec 12, 2024 18:10
Hence the ridiculous pairing of 565/17874
Dec 12, 2024 18:10
This was the first P2 that I had to sleep on before solving
Dec 11, 2024 05:22
I feel like advent of code is easier than I expected overall this year, but maybe the hard problems are yet to come
Dec 11, 2024 05:21
I wonder where they can fit 279 trillion stones, though
Dec 7, 2024 05:56
Apparently my code times out on TIO, even though it finished within the amount of time I was willing to wait on my own (fairly slow) computer
Dec 7, 2024 05:52
Dec 7, 2024 05:52
No
Dec 7, 2024 05:44
I didn't do even that and it took noticable but reasonable time
Dec 7, 2024 05:41
and did the same for p2
Dec 7, 2024 05:41
I did the same (except I implemented it recursively)
Dec 6, 2024 06:44
but I see plenty of optimizations possible
Dec 6, 2024 06:44
Mine too
Dec 5, 2024 05:15
The puzzle text could state that more clearly, though
Dec 5, 2024 05:11
And I got my best rank so far
Dec 5, 2024 05:10
but I got it right first try so maybe it wasn't
Dec 5, 2024 05:10
I didn't like part 2 today - it felt like the correct answer was ambiguous
Dec 4, 2024 06:46
Unfortunately by debugging won't help you here - I made a stupid logic error which doesn't generalize
Dec 4, 2024 06:08
Today inexplicably took me an hour and multiple wrong answers for both parts. I guess I'm not as good at making diagonal lists as I thought I was
Dec 3, 2024 05:57
(but at least I did that after I got the right answer)
Dec 3, 2024 05:57
I spent 10 minutes debugging what turned out to be my regex for part 2 not matching newlines
Dec 2, 2024 05:09
Because I'm still getting sporadic internal server errors
Dec 2, 2024 05:08
I think this day may end up being voided and worth no points
Dec 2, 2024 05:08
Done 623/411
Dec 2, 2024 05:08
Just try reloading the page
Dec 2, 2024 05:08
I had the same problem
Dec 2, 2024 05:00
me too
Dec 23, 2023 06:19
Could have gotten 600ish on part 2 except I had to wait 5 minutes for inputing too many wrong answers
Dec 23, 2023 06:18
Done 232/755
Dec 22, 2023 05:53
Yeah, that's a little unclear. They do help you by drawing it so z is vertical, though
Dec 22, 2023 05:52
And first P2 where the answer isn't several trillion or more since Day 17
