@null nice one, that looks like one of the most complicated versions of the endgame
Jun 17, 2020 22:42
@Tsundoku not very active to be sure
Jun 1, 2020 17:38
it sure is!
Apr 7, 2020 04:14
@varnie sure
Mar 29, 2020 04:07
does randomly lurking count?
Feb 18, 2020 21:58
I see - realistically there will only be a few interesting moments in the game from the standpoint of good, bad, and ugly moves. You could try two or move moves with the same piece and only one of them is good? Something like that might streamline things a little bit.

There's a great blog post that covers how lichess generates tactics lichess.org/blog/U4sjakQAAEAAhH9d/…
Feb 18, 2020 21:24
Otherwise, if there's a distribution like +1, +0.5, +0.5, +0.4,..., -4, -4, -5, that's probably what you want. The +1 move is a good move that gains something, the moves in the 0.5 range keep the existing advantage, and there are some number of moves that lose material.
Feb 18, 2020 21:24
@D.BenKnoble it's going to be harder in practice, but one approach is to generate the full list of legal moves for a position. If there is only one good move, I would probably throw out the position (since it's probably something like an obvious recapture).
Nov 18, 2019 15:36
@user541396 if you have chessbase it's definitely possible although there's a little bit of extra setup required
Oct 31, 2019 18:33
@Unihedron we're averaging one message per quarter? That's not so bad!
Jul 19, 2017 04:24
black gets to play Nxd6 at the end - everything else black is just losing a queen for a rook which is basically hopeless in correspondence
Jul 19, 2017 04:23
on the final move
Jul 19, 2017 04:21
Qxf5 gets a rook and a piece for the queen
Jul 19, 2017 04:21
both of those moves lose the queen for nearly nothing though
Jul 19, 2017 04:19
if black can't find Qxf5 it's just completely hopeless in that game, so it makes some sense to resign
Jul 19, 2017 04:18
pretty good! I have to admit I've been slowing down on my chess playing
Jul 19, 2017 04:15
looks like he just gave up when he was losing his queen
Jul 19, 2017 04:15
hey how's it going?
Jul 14, 2017 16:55
my problem is that I spend all my free time playing bullet these days instead of writing answers
Jun 13, 2017 05:13
For what it's worth, most good analysis software will show positive numbers for a mate for white and negative numbers for a mate for black
Jun 13, 2017 05:13
@KrishnShweta Lichess is showing that the position is a forced mate in 5. Basically anything that black does won't change the fact that white can mate in 5.
Jun 12, 2017 18:32
@Seth The pound sign means that there is a forced mate. So, for example, #4 means that there is a forced mate in 4 for the side to move.

@MarkYisri yes, Stockfish 8 is the latest release version

Jan 5, 2017 22:09
this is the only chat room for chess.se, so it won't get frozen
Dec 18, 2016 18:04
sweet, thanks - I haven't spent a ton of time poking through the repository yet
Dec 18, 2016 17:48
okay, that makes sense, thanks! It's not terribly hard to use websockets via c#, but I don't want to start causing problems by automating everything either
Dec 18, 2016 17:42
if this is better to ask on IRC I can do that too
Dec 18, 2016 17:42
or to just upload moves to some sort of demo board, it doesn't necessarily have to be a study
Dec 18, 2016 17:40
if there's an API that mobile devices use it might be possible to piggy back on that
Dec 18, 2016 17:40
I wrote a c# handler for the dgt device, so I can push anything I want in whatever format is convenient
Dec 18, 2016 17:37
I had a random question about the feasibility of automatically uploading the pgn/fen from a dgt board to lichess - either as a study or a "game"
I know that lichess got rid of tournament broadcasting, but the chess club that I'm involved with has a couple dgt boards and it would be nice to be able to display/analyze the games with arrows, etc.
Dec 18, 2016 17:35
@ProgramFOX how much coding do you do for lichess?
Nov 10, 2016 17:04
is there a way to filter a search on /api/user/username/games by opening? that's what I'll end up doing, but it's probably better if there's a built in method to do that so I don't have to download more data than I need
Nov 10, 2016 17:03
yeah, I've seen the rules and guidelines, it's not hard to throttle stuff and play nice with others
Nov 10, 2016 17:02
Ok, time to write a little script I suppose... But generally that's a good thing - it's bad if it's too easy for potential opponents to download all of my games, I'm not very anonymous on online chess sites
Nov 9, 2016 20:30
is it still possible to download games from lichess after a search?
Nov 5, 2016 04:13
you only have a king so it's a draw
Nov 5, 2016 04:13
@Hosch250 in order to win you must have enough material to mate your opponent
Jul 26, 2016 04:20
seems like a good reason to make a new account
Jul 26, 2016 04:18
@Yvette that's awesome
Jul 8, 2016 16:03
are any of you guys playing in the lichess team league?
Jun 17, 2016 19:51
thanks ttyl
Jun 17, 2016 19:41
I just had two people resign against me... free points?
Jun 17, 2016 19:41
nice - I streamed my effort yesterday but today I'm just listening to loud music
Jun 17, 2016 19:40
@ProgramFOX are you playing in the daily classical or are you just watching?
Jun 12, 2016 16:16
I don't really play against an engine - there's not a real point other than finding holes in your repertoire. To play I almost exclusively play online (chess.com or lichess.org)
Jun 12, 2016 15:30
Stockfish and Komodo go back and forth for top engine, but Komodo is important for opening prep because it has a better positional "understanding" than Stockfish. There are some material imbalances that Stockfish has a hard time with
Jun 12, 2016 15:20
You don't need to use Fritz - any open source engine like Stockfish is good enough unless you're doing top level preparation.
Jun 12, 2016 15:19
@JohnP Fritz is an engine - it will give you computer evaluations for a position. Some of versions of Fritz also come with a GUI that's very similar to chessbase. Chessbase has a bunch of features for searching positions and openings in order to learn openings and to quickly review lots of games by the same players.
