It seems that certain languages are being used more than once like ArnoldC, was there an amend to the no-repeat-languages rule?

@Geobits That is great! Currently my right nostril :D

I would say I can hold both of my eyes open w/o blinking and see which starts to get that dry-stinging-must-blink feeling first, but so far it seems to always just be my right eye, but I've only tested it for about a minute.

My hair is pretty long to the point where I can grab a very small amount and see how many strands I'm holding, I can count the amount of hairs I randomly grab from my head and modulo 2
Apr 15, 2017 03:44
Oh interesting, that's a good solution. HeartRate%2
Apr 15, 2017 03:41
@ASCII-only My memory isn't good enough. In that scenario I could take the numeric day of the month and start bottom on evens and top on odds. But what about in more broad scenarios, where I do things at random times, not on definitive schedules
Apr 15, 2017 03:37
Sometimes I need RNGs (Random number generators) in real life. For example I always brush my teeth starting on the bottom row, thus using most of the toothpaste by the time I get to the top row. A better algorithm is to just randomly start on the top or bottom row each time, but I don't always have a coin on me to flip. Can anyone think of a way to effectively do binary RNG but using only the human body?

KOTH w/ emacs vs vim

Code Bowling Idea:

Program, A, which outputs an output, B.

Output, B, can also be compiled as a program and will output, A (the original program)

And A ≠ B

Thanks @Fatalize
Mar 17, 2017 08:31
Does anyone see room for abuse after that rule is added?
Mar 17, 2017 08:30
@MatthewRoh Thank you, I think the best way to avoid this is to have each character increase the score by +1, but each repeat character decreases the score by -1 (aka it doesnt count). So source-code 111111111111111 would only have a score of 1
Mar 17, 2017 08:22
but I want to do a little more research before I repost
Mar 17, 2017 08:22
I have an easy solution where a penalty will start incurring if you repeat characters
Mar 17, 2017 08:21
Okay I see the issue thanks; I'll re-word in a bit and re-post
Mar 17, 2017 08:19
or @JanDvorak
Mar 17, 2017 08:19
@MatthewRoh can you explain the ∞ solution to my code-bowling?
Mar 17, 2017 08:09
Even just one specific subset (aka ALL subsets must not accomplish it)
Mar 17, 2017 08:08
@DestructibleLemon I'm posting it w/ your note in mind and I've added the rule that a subset of the program must not be able to complete the task (have the same output). Thanks for input, I think that will fix that problem!
Mar 17, 2017 07:55
Code-Bowling for a program that has the same non-error output no matter how you re-arrange any of the characters in the program.
Mar 14, 2017 07:00
@ASCII-only Fixed thanks!

Well, here goes nothing! My first Code-Bowling challenge is up ಠ_ಠ

Took way too long to make but I think it will be fun to see how it pans out. http://codegolf.stackexchange.com/questions/112827/output-the-text-code-bowling

About two weeks ago someone introduced me to the [code-bowling] tag and I was pretty intrigued but I was sad to see that almost all of the code-bowling challenges that had been proposed had been closed for various reasons.

Typically these reasons were because the post was too broad, allows for almost every answer to be ∞ bytes, lacked a clear scoring system, had unenforceable/vague rules, etc.

I'd like there to be more code-bowling challenges on CG but it seems that there are very few resources for how rules should be defined in a systematic manner, what style challenges should be propose

Thanks Pavel!

What are some overly-verbose languages like ArnoldC?
Feb 28, 2017 08:47
Pondering code-golf challenge for shortest code to crash the system it's running on
Feb 27, 2017 03:14
Ontop of that, these are pyramids with square bottoms; wouldn't it have a 3 sided pyramid with a triangular bottom? that's probably what's causing all of these issues
Feb 27, 2017 03:14
On the other hand how would it even look if the inner "hole" was just a pyramid? What would be on the edges where there are currently holes? hmmm
Feb 27, 2017 03:13
I've just thought about it and I'm not certain the above rendering is correct... Wouldn't the center be an upside down pyramid? Right now it's more like a blossoming pyramid opening up with triangular channels/hallways
Feb 27, 2017 03:11
...but imagine a 4 dimensions pascals hyperpyramid
Feb 27, 2017 03:11
no clue why there are spheres in it

Feb 27, 2017 03:00
When do you guys usually accept an answer in your code golf challenges? I have one approaching the one month mark
Feb 27, 2017 00:22
Agreed, thanks!

Mar 21, 2017 23:20
@NathanMerrill I guess we'll just have to wait and see; only time will tell if it ends up like Secret Santa or not, I have high hopes for Code Bowling
Mar 21, 2017 15:09
Sorry I'm on vacation I gotta head out but we can discuss this more soon

Subjective ;)
Mar 21, 2017 15:08
Also hopefully in the future there will be many code-bowling variants than just Pangram
Mar 21, 2017 15:08
No way to know that for sure. Pangram for a hello-world variant would get annoying after 2-3 times. But pangram being applied to various other things like ASCII art, radiation hardening, etc etc etc could maintain its "fun-ness".

Feb 27, 2017 00:24
Thanks guys!
Feb 27, 2017 00:21
I've also added two rules

•Lines can-not be empty.

•Lines can-not be //comments
Feb 27, 2017 00:20
I've edited it to code-golf
Feb 27, 2017 00:19
I am looking through the pop-con tag now and seeing almost 90% of them get closed
Feb 27, 2017 00:19
I assumed the most enjoyed answer is what determines if something is most popular or not
Feb 27, 2017 00:18
Fair point
Feb 27, 2017 00:18
Also even then why is popcon considered invalid for this?
